Was visiting family in the area and needed a place to stay for one night. This hotel was closest in a very rural area. It's an old building that still has a touch of the past. The room was fine - large, clean, hot shower, quiet. The hotel doesn't serve food any longer and the bar is also closed, so it is just rooms. There is a tavern next door/up the hill and other restaurants on the town, so not a problem. Downstairs in the old bar, there is a musty smell, but not upstairs in the rooms. If you are looking for a place to sleep close to the Delaware in an old historic town & hotel, this is just fine. They don't take credit cards, so you must pay in cash or check. ATM is one block away if you need it. Hotel is tired - it's heyday has past. Lots of old Victorian furniture downstairs and classic old furniture in rooms.

Awesome place! My wife and I stayed here on a Sunday night. The ambience, food and decor were charming and excellent. The new owner Irene showed us a couple of rooms and gave us a choice. She was very hospitable along with her staff. The town is very quaint and historic.

My family and I stayed at the Western Hotel during a Scenic Byway roadtrip. I LOVED this community! Lee and Joe, the owners of the Hotel were both very accommodating. We found Lee working in the liquor store beneath the hotel to check-in. She led us to Joe who was in the (now closed to public) bar. The bar area smelled strongly of cigar smoke, but our room upstairs was fine. The furnishings in the room were outdated and shabby, but comfortable. I loved that the paint on the walls was old and crackled. We husband, daughter and I were in the "bridal suite" that had a pull-out sofabed. There was a great bay window in the front of the room that gave us views of lower Main Street, and the railroad station. Downstairs is a lounge area that unfortunately was locked up while we were there so I'm not sure if it is ever opened. There's also an outdoor patio area set up with tables and chairs. There is a very comfortable feel throughout the hotel as long as you accept it for what it is--a 170 year old building. Do not expect the cookie cutter rooms that you will see in most modern hotels. The hotel only accepts cash and is reasonably priced. Callicoon is a great stopping spot if you're driving the Upper Delaware River. There's a great brewery, theatre, restaurants and park.

Last summer our group of ‪6 attended a street‬ fair in Callicoon New York.  While exploring the town we stopped by the Western Hotel. We liked the old school look of the hotel and on a whim decided to spend New Years Eve there. As the new year approached we all worried that we made a rash decision to celebrate New Years Eve in a small "back water" town.
Boy were we wrong, our trepidation was totally unwarranted. Checking in, we found the rooms are completely remodeled and have all the usual modern amenities. Despite that, they retain all the charm of this 166 year old hotel. Dinner in their classic 19th century dinning room was fantastic and we all had a great time at their New Years Eve party.
In conclusion, The Western Hotel is a great place to stay when exploring the upper Delaware region of New York State.

My family and I stayed at the Western several time over the last few years. At first, just to get away from Brooklyn to enjoy Callicoon and Sullivan County. After some time we, it became our home away from home as we looked for a place to buy in Callicoon. Irene is a wonderful host. She always made us feel the door was open, a cocktail was waiting and night was clear. Stop by. Just have a beer and sit by the fire or the front porch or stay the night. There is some magic in this place.

This hotel is unique in many aspects, first it is historical so you feel like you are traveling in time, facing the old railroad and the inside and outside architecture are true to old town Callicoon. Well modernized by the same token, the rooms are airy and relaxing. The bar downstairs is its own destination with a topnotch bartender rivaling some of the best in NYC, meanwhile the clientele stays down to earth, so you know for sure you are on vacation and in a great rest spot. The hotel restaurant offers some awesome comfort food. Overall quickly one feels at home away from home here. You are three steps away from wonderful quaint village shops where antique marvels can be found as well as really trendy sustainable goods. The river is a stone throw away. Can't recommend the Wester enough!

We stopped in Callicoon for a drink and bite to eat last Sunday. First time out in a very long time. We wanted an outdoor setting and the Western was perfect. Lovely day, nice live music provided by two locals playing a lot of their own songs, great choices on the menu and the beer was ice cold! Nice selection of IPAs on the menu. We enjoyed several appetizers, service was great. We would love to go back and try a few of their specialty drinks on the next visit.

Irene is the rudest business owner I’ve ever spoken to. I cannot express this enough. We visit Sullivan county often and every time I consider staying at the Western, she always seems to surprise me with how rude and arrogant she is and I immediately remember why I don’t support this disorganized establishment. The locals even tell us to stay away from there! Never ever again… Irene, take a hospitality class and fix your people skills.
