My friend and I were in New York city to see our San Francisco Giants take on the New York Yankees. When we planned this trip, we were flabbergasted at the high prices. I should mention the fact, that I have traveled to approximately 40 countries and I have stayed at 4 and 5 star hotels . . . However, this was a short trip of less than 3 days, so we wanted to ensure we got something reasonable and fairly close to Yankee Stadium. I would be lying though, if I didn't mention that we were concerned about being in the Bronx, especially after reading some of these reviews.

Quite frankly, we should have had ZERO concerns, as this Super 8 was unequivocally outstanding! Do not believe the negative reviews! The people who work here and the accommodations are excellent in my opinion!

First off, we were upgraded to an extra room, i.e., the double room we reserved, was not available. The hotel manager upgraded us to 2 separate rooms with queen size beds. Equally important, they had NO PROBLEM in ensuring we were on the other side of the building away from the subway tracks. I slept like a baby. My friend said the same thing.

Both of us also felt that the room accommodations were excellent - large flat screen TV, refrigerator, coffee maker, new linen and towels. In short, a modern, up to date room. Similarly, the free breakfast was satisfactory too.

Regarding the Bronx area and residents - they are the best! I asked directions and other questions to people I met on the Subway, as well as on my way to the game and other tourist sites in NY city. Outstanding folks . . . All of them!

Last, but not least, I want to thank Alisva Pabellon, the General Manager. I am kicking myself right now - but there are 2 other young people who had the night shift - one is a male (he worked July 21st) and the other was a female with pink hair (she worked on July 22nd) . . . Both of them were very, very helpful to us. The male assisted me with the TV and safe (as did your maintenance person the next day); and the female gave me directions to Yankee Stadium, as well as Newark Airport. Alisva, you have very dedicated workers and I hope you pass on my sincere thanks to both of these fine young employees.

Thank you New York and Super 8 for making our trip memorable!

Very nice staff. Clean and comfortable. Breakfast is better than expected. One long block to the subway. I booked a non-smoking room. Why do hotels have smoking rooms anyway? On arrival it was made clear (I assumed they have problems with this) if they even smell smoke, $250 would be automatically charged. I was on a non-smoking floor. I could smell smoke through the vent and the hallway reeked. I told the manager who seemed surprised. She said she would take care of it. At midnight that night, I had to change rooms as the smoke was so nauseating. It was clear the manager had not followed through. A staff member told me the smoking person had been warned 2 days prior to my complaint. When I checked out, the manager was (conveniently) missing or did not want to discuss this further. I asked for a phone call from her but she didn't bother. I have now contacted Wyndham corporate offices who were quite unhappy to hear of my experience.

It's hard to find cheap hotels near Times Square or Manhattan, if for any reason you don't find, this is a good option, Hotel is new, clean and confortable, the staff is always kind and helpful, but beware, you'll be at the Bronx, although people says it's safe around this specific location, at night it can be creepy, the nearest Subway Station is Freeman St, which is 2 blocks away, and it'll take you around 40 minutes to get to Times Square using subway line 2 or 5 (which can be heard passing from your room, quite annoying at night), returning to this area after a long trip to Liberty Island can be really exhausting (almost 2 hours). But still is a clean, nice, cheap option.

You cannot really guess how nice the hotel is from the inside. The neighborhood looked a little dicey at night. But the rooms are sooo clean and comfortable. If you prefer a quieter room, ask for a room facing away from the subway line - The subway passed right outside our window. For us it was still ok as our son enjoyed every train that passed by.
The subway is just 2 blocks away, and the Bronx Zoo just 2 miles. The connectivity from anywhere in NYC is just awesome. They even had a wonderful spread of breakfast. They do provide complementary parking but its a small lot, so if you are lucky enough you may find a spot.
Overall nice hotel for the price and the location.

I slipped in the tub due to the fact there is no safety bar installed in the tub area, it is outside on the wall. I was rudely insulted twice by the rep at the front desk, first she insults me by saying there will be a $250 charge for smoking in the room, when a few sentences before that I had asked her twice to make sure I had a non-smoking room. And secondly, when i asked her if she had any extra blankets and sheets, she is going to say to me - please dont steal them. I was speechless at first but proceeded to say honey, trust me the blankets I own would hardly compare to what you are giving me, and by that time I was getting even madder and said to her, just bc you are use to a certain type of people, I am from Virginia and secondly work in law enforcement. The room when I arrived, had no soap, no hangers. All the extra space they have, they can stand to put a refrig in the room. The free breakfast they should not even try, they have a small refrig stocked with nothing but milk gallons to put in your coffee, other hotesl have fruits, yogurt and even boiled eggs in the refrig. The lineup of the food was terrible, you had to keep butting back in line to get something like sugar for coffee (way on the other end). For $146 a night, I went to the Holiday Inn in Jersey for $99 a night, nice rooms, refrig, courtesy customer service and free breakfasts. There is no parking. They advertise rollaway beds on their individual website, when I arrive she goes to say, they are privately owned. Which says alot, the girl at the front desk was probably of the family that owned hotel, because she was one insulting person.

It's not quiet but acceptable. There's no drinking water and hair dryer at all. Can u imagine it? The location is terrible. It seems dangerous. The service in the front desk is..... You now I thought they are forced to work there

Enjoyed my stay...room & bath clean nice, but modestly decorated. Had small refrig, but no microwave which was an inconvenience...requiring me to go to breakfast area microwave to heat my food. Staff friendly & accommodating. Most important...hotel has it's own parking which in NY city is priceless!! This was best bang for my bucks!!

Arrived mid-afternoon on Friday and found a free parking spot easily in the hotel lot. Very friendly staff across the board. Clean room, nice free breakfast variety. Easy walk to Freeman Station to catch the 2 & 5 trains downtown. I felt safe in the hotel and walking around the general area and will definitely come back again. The elevated train tracks run directly past the hotel and were level with our 3rd floor room. I am a very light sleeper and they really did not bother me at all. Really! Frankly, my wife and I were both super impressed with how nice this hotel was. We will be bringing our kids here to stay next time we visit NYC.
