This was a wonderful experience! The place was exquisite. What really made it great was the people! Sweet Caroline, master tracker and guide Shaddy, the ever-present and accommodating butler Andrew and all the other staff there made this an unforgettable experience. The chef deserves special praise for the outstanding vegetarian cuisine. The food was not just to accommodate our vegetarian tastes, it was made with care for us to enjoy. We will be back with our boys!

We spent 1 night at Simbavati River Lodge and 1 night at Simbavati Hilltop Lodge due to their current specials. It's still a splurge for South Africans even at the special rate. The setting of Hilltop is incredible overlooking a dam, we saw elephants and giraffes and a few others drinking. The tents were very unique with great views, as well as a day bed for enjoying the views! The outdoor shower was lovely! The bathroom even has a view of the dam! Food was very nice! Loved the cheese board! Alcohol very cheap. Staff are incredible. Fantastic service! Our guide Shaddy and the tracker Evans were wonderful and so enthusiastic! Only downsides: please don't expect an abundance of wildlife in Timbavati, we did see a leopard one day, but besides that we went for 30 minutes at a time on the game drives not even seeing an antelope. Lounge areas could do with a revamp, old and worn furniture. Some maintenance could be done in the tents - lots of stains on the day beds curtains. You just expect perfection for the price. Overall a great stay!

What an amazing experience. Everything was perfect - from the very comfortable, intimate room to the delicious food, gracious hosts, sweet and attentive butler (Andrew) and extremely knowledgeable and friendly guide + tracker (Colbert the “let’s make a plan” man and Derick).

This is our second visit to the Simbavati region and we were once again spoilt with the big 5 and many more memorable sightings. Colbert and Derick are a formidable team that made sure we were spoilt and entertained on our game drives. We were also kept entertained from the comfort of our own tent with multiple animal sightings as the room deck overlooks the dam.

It was our 2nd year wedding anniversary and the team suprised us with a room filled with candles, a bucket of cold wine and a filled bubble bath. Thank you for making us feel so special. True 5 star treatment.

We will be returning without a doubt as we have found our South African paradise.

Stayed here for two nights and wow what a location. On the hill looking out over the river where hippo's are bathing, elephants are cooling down etc. The facilities of the main lodge are nice. The accommodation to sleep in (looks like tents) is nice but they do require some maintenance. Water stains in the tent are not a 5 star experience. The game drives are magnificent Colberto and Evans are good ranger and tracker. The food is ok but for the price paid we would expected better quality and also fresh juices. As we did another safari later in our trip at hand the price we paid here we feel there is some room for improvement even though do understand that the Simbavati reserve is more expensive in general.

Dear Esther1606, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at Simbavati Hilltop Lodge , I would like to apologies for both the food and maintenance in the rooms , I have addressed this with the necessary departments for us to look at different ways to improve our offering . We strive for not just service excellence but also to provide an oasis in the middle of the South African bush . We are going to be undergoing a refurb at Simbavati Hilltop Lodge in the coming months . Colbert and Evans are a great combo together on safari and I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the experience that they had created. I am happy that from the lodge you were able to experience the resident hippos that frequent the Nhalarumi river basin situated in front of the lodge. Elephants enjoy on the regular occasion a good soak in the river especially on those hot humid days out int he bush. I look forward to welcoming you again to Simbavati , Take care, Kind regards Colin Ahtom Lodge Manager Simbavati Hilltop Lodge

This lodge is a wonderfully authentic and comfortable place to hang your hat. It is so welcoming with informal dining (my preference) and a large Boma/barbecue area for serving deliciously prepared fresh local cuisine. The rooms at Simbivati Lodge are large with an outside shower, inside bath, a large daybed on the viewing deck overlooking the river below where wildlife gather regularly. The staff here are very eager to please. The game drive guides and trackers are determined to deliver. We saw all the Big 5 plus so much more, including the wild dogs on a hunt. The sundowners are an especially welcomed treat each evening. Big smiles and fun times abound!

Greeted by Brett and his team. Was a very smooth and quick introduction as they were rapidly “on our request” getting us ready for the evening game drive. The vehicle and the tracker and driver were a great team. Nothing but great experiences and tons of knowledge. Was fortunate enough to see the big 5 up close and personal in a few short days. They go out of their way to accommodate all guests and are very attentive during the sundowner celebrations.
Accommodations are very clean and beautifully located next to the river. We were in room 5 which is well situated near the river and close to the dinning area. Word of warning, there are a lot of steps to climb if you have any knee/back or general health issues. Building 8 is a long walk from the dining area. The bedroom is spacious but be aware that the outdoor shower is the only shower and takes a little getting used too. The bathroom is adjacent to the bedroom and requires stepping outside in the night to go too the bathroom. This can take a little getting used too.
Food quality was good although most hot meals was tepid. Now to the service and this is where I down graded my rating. Our Butler Daniel was inattentive, slow and should know his guests way better than he did. But that’s really my only negative comment. All in all a great place to visit and Brett and his team did their very best to make us feel welcomed.

It starts by being greeted at the airport by a smiling driver holding a card with your name who points out and even slows down the animal sightings along the way to the reserve. Then you are greeted with warm, moist towels, freshly squeezed lemonade and shown to your "tent" which is a simply stunning room overlooking the water with hippos grunting their welcome. The afternoon game ride was about 30 min away so we dropped off our bags and joined the waiting guide (Colbert) and tracker (Dereck) in the "chariot" These rides are 3 hours long and the afternoon one includes a "sundowner" stop with drinks and snacks to take in the beautiful sunsets. The morning ride includes a hot water bottle (it was quite chilly!) which kept us comfortable and a stop with hot beverages and snacks. The food at the lodge is wonderful and you are assigned a "butler" (Andrew) who takes care of your food/beverage needs. We celebrated our wedding anniversary there and Andrew gave us a private area table including a bottle of champagne. The housekeeper decorated our room beautifully and had a hot, bubbly bath waiting including romantic candles. During our 4-day trip we saw the "Big 5" lions, leopards, giraffe's, elephants and rhinos but also so much ore including the wild dogs, water buffalo, impalas, hyenas, more bird types than I can name. Colbert and Dereck were amazing and full of knowledge and total respect for the animals. We hope to return some day and even bring some friends/family to enjoy this life changing experience. I'd love to include the River lodge next time as well.

A truly sensational and unforgettable stay. There isn't much to say other than everything was 5*. The rooms are to be seen to be believed - complete with daybeds and outdoor showers that overlook a watering hole from which we often saw hippos, crocs, elephants and giraffes. The food is excellent and plentiful - you will not go hungry. Every other night there is a 'boma' where you enjoy a big bbq with the guide and other guests. The drives were even better than we expected. We were looked after by our guide Colbert whose knowledge, enthusaism and (with our tracker Shaddy) ability to track down the animals was paranormal.

If you are considering booking, book it. You will not be disappointed. If we are lucky enough to go on safari again, we certainly won't be going anywhere else.

An amazing place and a wonder hidden in the hills of Timbavati. The staff are amazing and super friendly and the views and room set up is amazing too.

If I had to be honest the only things I would Improve on would be the following:
1) The butler service can be improved, by this I mean training the butlers to be aware of what is being served and how to present the meals.

2) The food for a 5 star camp can also be improved, on the Sunday night when we went to dish up there was hardly any food left and no one thought to bring out more for us. Staff need to keep an eye on this.

3) The rooms are stunning but on the website it’s advertised with a white tent cloth roof and when we got inside it was just the green tent roof and no white linen roof as per the pics. But still an amazing room.

I brought Malaria pills and took them regularly. I’m prone to bug bites wherever I go so was extra careful. I think the risk is acutely low. Some other guests stopped taking them due to side effects and were ok.

It was approximately 1200-1500 rand for my massage. I had a massage and facial and also had a manicure it was about 2000 rand all in, as I was visiting from Australia it was a good price as rand versus AUD was 10 to 1.
