This bed and breakfast exceeded our expectations in a perfect location, parking was very easy to use. We had a lovely stay it was very relaxing. The owner is so nice and talking to her feels like you're visiting old friends. The staff provided us with good recommendations and tips for the area. The entire house, was sparkling clean. Comfortable bed and pillows, nice sitting area in the room as well as on the porch. I enjoyed the hummingbirds and relaxing while reading a book, breakfast was delicious and varied each day with healthy items included, everything was top notch which we appreciated. Check in/out (contactless) was very easy and smooth. If you're looking for a great place, stay here! Highly recommend!

Awesome. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay...and our hummingbirds. Parking is always FREE and we are able to accommodate those pulling a trailer or in an RV. The one thing that our guests often comment on, is how relaxing their stay was. I'm glad that you felt the same way. We appreciate your recommendation. Referrals are always appreciated. We use luxury microfiber sheets on our beds and our matrasses are very high end, with built-in memory foam toppers. Very comphy. I'm sure that we can still direct you to new and unique things to see and do in our area. We are open all year and we hope to see you again!

We were married in the area 33 years ago and try to return every year. This is our favorite place to stay in Chimayo. It has always been a very nice place to stay and now it's under new ownership it has only improved.
The breakfast was delicious and they readily accommodated our request for a vegetarian meal. The ground are well kept and the bird feeder attracts little finch as well as other birds.
The rooms are clean, nice linens and a comfortable bed.....what more can you ask for!

For almost 20 years we have stayed several days at Casa Escondida. We keep coming back for the home-like surroundings and outstanding customer service. Owner/Inn Keeper Belinda and staff Cynthia make the guests needs and wishes their priority. Cynthia not only cooks and serves breakfast but also checks people in and gives them a thorough orientation to the inn. Due to a last minute dietary request and by breakfast the next morning, it was taken care of. Housekeeper Nancy ensures that rooms are refreshed every day. I cannot say enough positive about our experience.

Although our room was small it was traditionally decorated and very comfortable. The grounds were so well kept with beautiful multi colored metal furniture and additional decor that really provided a New Mexico feel to the property. Barbie the chief cook and bottle washer greeted us in the morning with a delicious three course breakfast with a lightly spicy New Mexico flair. She was a joy to talk to, we would return just to see her. All in all a lovely experience, we are looking forward to returning. Although Chimayo is a dark city we did not get a chance to see many stars because it was a cloudy night. We were treated to magnificent sunset n our way into town. Being so close to Santa Fe Chimayo is small and may be easily over looked but if you are in the neighborhood consider a stop and at least one night at Casa Escondido.

This cute bed and breakfast is a hidden New Mexico gem. Remotely tucked away in Chimayo, it offers a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle. We stayed for 5 days in the Kiva room; it comfortably held my family of four. The beds are incredibly soft, and they helped us beat the exceptional summer heat with two air conditioning units in our room.

Breakfast each morning was filling and delicious as was the coffee. Barbi and Kim went out of their way to make the start of our day each day a great one! Ernesto and his family were kind and helpful hosts. Everyone working here is friendly and ready to help with any question or need.

The remote location allows you to experience dark skies and bright stars with an amazing view of the milky way! We also enjoyed watching the humminbirds and a wide variety of other birds who were visiting the feeders around the back yard. Lots of places around the the property to sit, relax, take in the view or talk with family. The hotel is a short drive to Santa Fe and Taos, and about 1.5 hours out from Albuquerque. Great location for making side trips to lots of areas.

It's a cute get away that has lots of personality and character, and one that gets you a little closer to nature!

The innkeeper was very accommodating to last minute guests arriving when she was in Santa Fe. She made it possible for us to change for dinner and enjoy the living room before she could check us in. Breakfast was delicious! We were in a room not part of the main building- Sage Room. It was comfortable but the main building would be better.

You're welcome. We are delighted to accommodate special needs, whenever possible. We were happy to be able to provide you with last minute accommodations. I'm glad that you enjoyed our wonderful breakfast. It's a rotating menu, so guests do not have the same breakfast twice during their stay but it is always a full, hot, sit-down breakfast. We are able to offer a variety of various room types, at varying price points. So much of the room selection is simply personal preference and specific needs. The next time you are in our area, be sure to check-out some of our other guests rooms. Everyone seems to have a differing "favorite". We are open all year. We hope to see you again. Thank you for taking the time to post your wonderful review.

We visited the Santuario de Chimayo and stayed at Casa Escondida in the Wildflower Room. The room was beautifully appointed, clean and quiet (we arrived late after a day of work on Friday).
We were greeted by Belinda on Saturday morning and the table was set for a heavenly homemade breakfast. There are so many thoughtful touches at Casa Escondida.
We hope to be back soon!

So many of our guests stay with us while visiting our famous Santuario de Chimayo. It's a wonderful and spiritual destination and we are located only about 1 mile from the church. We are delighted that you were so pleased with your room and that you enjoyed our full, hot breakfast. We hope to see you again!

My husband has to travel with his service dog which shouldn't be difficult but can be when looking for an especially nice place to stay. At first we were just happy that Casa Escondida has out lying rooms that they could take us but when we got there we were amazed. Beautiful rooms in a very traditional hacienda that somehow provide serenity and privacy to each guest. Delicious breakfasts were served fresh and hot to get us out the door to explore all the sites Northern New Mexico has to offer. Will definitely be going back !

This B&B is not at all as advertised. No luxury bed linens or comfortable orthopedic bed, no bath amenities. The room was not as expected, the air conditioning was very loud. No privacy or black out curtain on the front window next to the entry door. The breakfast was not as advertised and pretty paltry.

No one ever answers either by text or by email. Seems to be a common theme amongst other people that have stayed. While many cited a great host and great service, we never saw a "chef" or Ernesto the entire time we were there.

We ended up leaving a night early because the bed was old and hard as a rock. We could not take another night on the bed and not be able to move in the morning. The shower was built for someone less than 5ft tall and it leaked. Couldn't open the bathroom window because it opens to the back patio where other guests can see in. No exhaust fan in the bathroom either.

We tried texting and emailing the proprietor but no response. They are very good at sending many automated text messages about their policy and stay details. But, beware you will not get a refund if you leave early even if it's due to not finding the rooms as advertised.

It was an anniversary weekend trip that turned into having to find somewhere else to stay, as it just wasn't worth the aggregation to what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend getaway. So we paid twice for our weekend, once to the B&B and then once to the hotel we ended up going to.

What does it mean when it says “ detached bathroom”?
Answer from Ernesto Q
24 contributions12 helpful votes
All of our guest rooms have private baths. NONE of our guest rooms have "shared" bathrooms. However, we do have 2 of our 9 guests rooms, which have their private bathrooms located across the hall from their sleeping room. So guests in either of those 2 rooms, have to walk across the hall to get to their private bath. So detached bath meas that the private bathroom is detached from the sleeping room.

Heard that there is no air conditioning / is this a problem? Hard to sleep when hot!
Answer from Ernesto Q

2 of our rooms do have AC (the Kiva Room and the Vista Room). Because both of these rooms are on the 2nd floor, they get warmer than the ground level rooms. Therefore, AC is needed in those 2 rooms. All of our ground level rooms have ceiling fans. We are at an elevation of around 7000 feet. So it does get cool in the evenings and we are in the high desert, so it is dry. At our elevation, most folks simply close the doors and windows during the heat of the day and then reopen them in the evening to enjoy the cool evening air. If AC is a "must have" for you, I would suggest that you book one of the rooms with AC. The Kiva Room has a window unit and the Vista Room has a wall unit. Thanks for asking.

i'm wondering what the weather is like in late November, early December, thanks!
Answer from Ernesto Q
24 contributions12 helpful votes
Winters at our elevation are far from brutal. If you visit our website and click on the "local weather" tab, you will find a chart posted there which will list the average daily high and the average daily low, by month. November is 52 and December is 44 degrees on average The good news is that the time period that you are considering is a quite time. So there are no lines at the museums. Plenty of easy parking. No wait for a table at the restaurants, etc and we still have vibrant blue skies and lots is sunshine, even during the winter. We could get some snow by then but if we do, it is typically melted off of the roads by late morning. Hope this helps. We also offer online booking right at our website. Just click on the "book now" button. Thanks, Belinda
