This was my first interprovincial travel for leisure during the pandemic and what a joy as always to visit Nyathi restcamp.

Though this is a normal Sanparks self catering camp it is just deliciously luxurious for reasonable pricing.

The drive en route to Nyathi in the private section of the park is so special - I already feel like I am visiting a private luxury lodge.

I have seen elephant, buffalo, rhino , hyena and lion on that road to name a few!

The chalets overlook a small waterhole which does not always have water. The clearing does draw a variety of game though.

There is also a small waterhole close to the entrance to camp which sees a variety of birds and mammals visitors. There is also a very active birdlife in the camp.

The camp is small and exclusive with only a couple of chalets.

The chalets also boast views to die for from every section, even the bathroom with the huge round tub.

Each unit has its own little splashpool for hot summer days.

If you feel like peace and quiet you honestly need not even leave your chalet.

Blacky was our professional, efficient host who saw to our needs and answered all questions!

This was my 3rd visit and I shall be back!

The newest of the SANParks camps in Addo, it is a lovely 20 minute drive from the Main Camp - the gates only operate from 6-6, which suited us perfectly! Felt very safe.
The accommodation is clean and well equipped. The splash pool was too cold to enjoy, however would definitely be used in summer, with views over the plain.
There are a few maintenance issues, however we understand the finances in SA at present. We enjoyed having no service, Blacky was wonderful, checked in on us in the evening.
No oven was not a problem, we used the braai, which is well appointed. The view from the deck, whilst braaiing, is over the plain, saw a few animals, however the drought means there is no water in the river below. will definitely re-book as soon as we can

Wonderful location, excellent accommodation , however house keeping & maintenance needs a wake up call.
No mattress or pillow protectors on beds, plunge pool on day 2 unusable due to too much chlorine in water.
Step leading to plunge pool cracked and hand rail rickety, needs attention.
Door leading out onto patio area loose hinges, needs attention.
No map or welcome pack, no instructions for tv or channels available.
No wood for braai.
No petrol in park for days, spent one morning going from Addo to Paterson in search of petrol instead of game viewing.
Suggest staff in park be aware of the petrol situation and advise visitors accordingly.
Other than that we enjoyed our stay and the Ellies made up for the above.

Main bedroom is beautiful and spacious. One mirror in bathroom is missing.
No waste paper basket
Shower is blocked and water starting to flow over the rim. We did complain yet nothing happened.
Oven did not work
Toaster middle element not working.
Safety fence by swimming pool not there since December….so dangerous.
No hand rail to enter or exit the pool as the step is very deep. Have requested this many times.
Light next to the beds not working
Remote for the gate had a flat battery.
So, it is clear there is no maintenance at the cottages and this camp is deteriorating fast.
We were in cottage 5 which is not cheap.
Will definitely not return.

Our 3 day stay at Nyathi rest camp was awesome and i would recommend it to anyone. The cottages are great (incl. Jacuzzi, AC, ...) and the service is perfect.
Our camp responsible named Blacky was extremly kind and careing. He came by on a regular basis to check if we needed anything. It was good to know that there is a guy like him around taking care of us. Especially because Nyathi is in a seperate section of the park. That means perfect view and very quiet but also limited access to the outer world. (No cell phone reception or wifi and going in/out is limited to 6am to 6pm) So Blacky is the go-to guy if you need anything.

We highly recommend this rest camp in Addo. Its a self catering delight and was a highlight on our 10 day trip. We dont often say this as we prefer to try out new spots each time we travel but, we will be back to this one with friends.

Important to note is there is NO RECEPTION here at all. No WiFi option either. You need to travel to main gate about 20min away to make a call. Our kids were at home so this is important to us to be contactable for emergency.

We stayed in unit 7 which unfortunately had a tree obstructing part of the gorgeous valley view below but it was nonetheless stunning and we took a walk onto the larger deck of unit 6 and this one and units to the left (most likely 1 to 5) have the ultimate views.

We spotted an array of wildlife from our deck including elephant and Rhino. It was spectacular.

The room was very comfortable and the bath in unit 7 was huge and round. It was the biggest bathtub we had ever seen.

King, who was the night /gate keeper for the camp made us feel safe and comfortable. He was absolutely fantastic and checked in on us ensuring we were okay. What an asset to SANPARKS.

Make sure you bring everything with you even salt. We assumed small amenities like coffee, salt and pepper etc would be available but it is 100% self catering. (There was a small container of sunlight liquid) nonetheless it was amazing and upon check in we did ask and they told us we need to bring everything so we did a quick pop in at the main addo small shop which had everything we needed.

There are towels and extra blankets - however we simply closed all the curtains at night when we went to bed (plus bathroom door) and we slept well. We were not cold.

Bedding and unit was clean and it was truly an amazing stay. Wish we could have braved the little splash pool. But we will be back for unit 5 or 6! This is a self catering SAN PARKS delight.

Wonderful location. The accommodation is fantastic, spacious with a wrap around balcony overlooking the grasslands where we saw 2 rhino, zebra, antelope and warthogs( an elephant on the drive in). There is a nice plunge pool and good BBQ facilities. You can lay in the bath with the doors open and view the spectacular scenery as it is so secluded. We were in no. 1 on the end which was very private. My only niggle was a poorly equipped kitchen( one side plate!) but sadly this seems to be a feature of San Park accommodation which could so easily be rectified.

These people changed their entrance fees upon arrival and they have a lot of expensive corkage and braaing fees. The hilltop bar clearly does not work at all.A great place to be but they should revise their fees and be realistic

An amazing place to spend the night at Addo Park.

Around sunset, the guard came by and pointed out a rhino in the distance that we spotted with our binoculars.

Amazing to have full kitchen, private splash pool, and awesome views.

So glad we found out about this place on a travel forum when planning our trip.

Small downsides: Bath was a bit dirty, bathroom sink wasn't draining. And as one might expect, some insects around. Was a large spider that I was able to remove from room, but another one entered immediately thereafter so I just gave up :)

Sitting in the infinity pool overlooking a beautiful valley as elephants and buffalo and kudu wander below, is an amazing experience. The rooms sit atop a cliff and are lovely, although they are about due for some maintenance spending. Wildlife sightings aren’t as good as at Addo, but if you have the cash, it’s well worth it. Manager was nice, and cleaning staff were wonderful.
