We actually stayed here with our son's wedding, but there are certain times when you can stay over at the castle as a hotel, sometimes with a discount from Groupon! The castle has rooms that were shipped over directly from European castles, so it has authentic 500-year-old stained glass windows, and intricately carved wooden walls, ceilings, and staircase. It was built in the 1920's and used granite mined in NJ right on this property, so it has a granite exterior, two stone rooms inside, a circular stone staircase. The architecture is breathtaking. Outside, the NJ botanical gardens has many stone walls and statues, beautiful mountain views, and flowering plants & trees in season. It is worth coming here just to explore the manor and take stunning photos with family & friends. These are the things you cannot do on a historic tour. There is a rec room with couches, tables, and foosball. There is a handicap room downstairs, the other rooms have a staircase. For weddings, there is a bridal suite for bride/bridesmaids to get ready, and the groom/groomsmen get ready in the library downstairs. The curator took us on a tour of the castle at night and invited us to look for 4 hidden safes in the castle, telling us when we were getting "warm". In the morning, breakfast was served downstairs in an elegant room with coffee, bagels, muffins, and more - included in the price of the stay! Where else can you sleep in a castle right in NJ?

I was staying there with my husband and 6months old son just a few weeks ago, and that was such a wonderful experience. The outside of the mansion itself takes the breath away. And then, when you walk inside, you just can’t believe that you’re about to spend your weekend in this terrific museum-like place. Seriously, you’ll walk around with your mouth open! Also, it was our first getaway with our little one and I was worried how everything will go, but people who work there ensured we had everything we needed. Special thanks to Rich, who went above and beyond helping us around. We stayed in Kings Alfred suite, which has a lot of windows in the bedroom. The weather was very cold one night and the heater didn’t make it better in the bedroom. Then Rich offered us a next door suite (which was also great by the way) and helped us move our staff.

Also important to mention that this place has beautiful botanical garden and a lake with boats rental. Unfortunately, February isn’t the time to enjoy it, but it’s good to keep it in mind if you plan to visit this place during warmer days. Lastly, a great addition to what I’ve already said is that they have a free breakfast.

I highly recommend this place and look forward to our next stay!

Overnight stay in February 2022 in the King Alfred suite. Beautiful property and manor. We really enjoyed touring the rooms and the hearing the history. We enjoyed the historical value of Skylands Manor but there were issues. The facility is listed as a historic landmark and is run by the state. That being said, they are not maintaining this property. First, the parking is a distance from the entrance. There was no lightning at night and we had to use our phone flashlight to see where we were walking. Also the doors to our room were standard key locks not hotel safety locks.
At reservations for the King Alfred suites we were told that the room could be cold. Cold was an understatement! When we got into the room there was no electricity because the fuse blew. The running of 2 heaters in the room was not improving the situation. The staff was very accommodating and gave us another room which was much warmer. We were compensated for the downgrade.
The new room was beautiful and clean but a large piece of bathroom ceiling paint was falling off the wall over the shower.
In the morning breakfast was very nice. It was disappointing that we could not enjoy the best room in the manor.

The castle is a beautiful historic building. They are not providing the kind of amenities and hospitality you expect for the amount of money they are charging. We were welcomed graciously and able to check in early. Our upgraded room had no functioning shower, no heat for the majority of time we were there and one
light blanket, only two towels for two people and the lighting was terrible. The tv was set up behind the couch so you couldn’t watch it. There is no dinner served so we went out and when we returned we had to walk back from the parking lot which was down the unlit road so it was pitch dark. Breakfast consisted of ready made pastries, cereal and yogurts, a very roadside motel feel to it. There was not a holiday decoration in the whole place but there were cleaning products and tools in most rooms. I hope if a bride books this place she gets better hospitality.

The castle and grounds of this property need attention, and the plumbing and maintenance of the interior rooms need repair. Some of the ceiling, had paint and cracks from water damage in our room, but beside the ageing condition of the castle, innkeeper Kelly was excellent. Our room was spotless and clean at check in, and she serviced our room on request. We had a nice breakfast. It’s not a hot meal, but the innkeeper warmed the pastries and we could help ourselves to coffee and bagels. The innkeeper also brought us a space heater late at night because it was 37 degrees, and it was explained that the heat of the building was manually shut off by the caterers to save money, but we were able to stay warm in our room and have a good time.

There was nothing I found here I did not appreciated. If you want some place posh and absolutely perfect, go to some boutique hotel and enjoy the same old same old. If you want to experience a gentler and more elegant time when high society was more refined, come and step back in time. One could easily spend much more else where and get so much less. What does a little water stain ceiling or a chipped tile mean? Essentially nothing. As in life we overlook and dismiss the beauty of the "old ." You could easily spend $500 to $1,000 a night in a Roman Villa and not get more for your money. Drink in the history of this place, look at the stained glass windows and all the carved wood and just relax.

Staying at the manor is a unique and wonderful experience…it has stained glass windows, ornate carved decoration, and sweeping staircases! I stayed in a Gatsby Room (actually a suite with a private bathroom ). My room was elegantly decorated, clean and comfortable. The surrounding gardens are very enjoyable, filled with flowers, statues and fountains. My stay included a free continental breakfast. While there is no restaurant on site, there are several nearby restaurants that deliver to the manor. If you like history, art, and gardens, you’ll love this place!

I would like to brief about this hotel in detail, first of all this hotel quality is very disaster, badly responses you get from the management. the creepiest about this is they don't respect each other. I been travelling most to the concert, parties, sauna and much more even I travelled to this resort plenty of times, this is very exhaustive and poor serviced hotel. second thing would want to mention is this is the third class resort you will find in overall, for the management what matters is money minding and cost control. they don't care about the employees who work within the resort, they treat them like a chant and the worst part is none of the management people takes action about the same. if you would want to save your money and have a good time indeed then please do not visit this resort, you will get much better than the reasonable price, this hotel is just a money-making shade of stock not a happy home stay. worst stay of mine in this hotel, bedsheets were so dirty, rooms are quit clumsy.

Such an amazing experience at an actual castle. Staying in the middle of the New Jersey Botanical Gardens is a special trip that everyone has to make. The Innkeeper, Liz, specifically made me feel at home in the castle from the welcoming atmosphere I was greeted with to the five star breakfast that was made every morning. If you enjoy delicious food, pretty gardens, and an even better host/innkeeper, you'll never want to leave The Castle at Skylands Manor.

From the moment we walked in to the beautiful castle we were taken care of by Blake, the innkeeper, who gave us a a tour of the main floor and made sure our room was ready. The castle is stunning, from another era. The rooms are dated, but in a Victorian England way. Just magical. Explore the dimly lit hallways and take in the stunning stained glass windows. Some areas are very “Harry Potter” and you feel transported to a different time. The grounds beckon relaxed strolls and exploration. We were very impressed with the service provided by Blake.

Room Tip: Reserve ahead of time - very hard to get rooms due to weddings. The King Alfred suite is fabulous.

You will have to call the B & B directly. I visit there during the first week of December when the mansion is open to the public for touring the Christmas decorations. I have never stayed there before.
