Hotel's Favourite
I have stayed regularly at the Watt over the past year due to business in the area. The hotel is located in a great spot for dinner options, parking is easy in the adjoining parking garage (for a reduced fee with hotel stay) and the small gym has been recently updated with new equipment. The rooms have a Euro feel to them and the Edison Suites are a great size if needed. To top it off, John M & Rob K are great during the breakfast service. They are extremely accommodating to requests and both the food and service are very good. My only complaint is that I wish the breakfast start time would go back to 6am for those who have to be to work early.

Beautiful lobby that takes on a very modern design with high ceilings, where visitors can work on their laptop or access the lounge for casual drinks or enjoy happy hour in the later afternoon. The lit fireplace at night was a nice added touch. The room itself was clean, filled with the natural sunlight, and the bed was very comfortable. The design of the room had high ceilings w/ a modern take on antique light fixtures, while creating a very ambient and clean space. The desk was large, which was perfect for me to accomplish much needed work to be done. And the in-room coffee machine w/ free keurigs was a nice free accommodation to the room. When I ran out, the staff were kind and helpful to freely supply me with more as needed. I’m a big coffee fan. The parking is located just behind the building, where there is a back entrance leading directly to the hotel, but there’s a small daily fee of $12 (less if you park for only a few hours, free if less than 2 hrs). I enjoyed the staff the most out of my stay as they were very kind, courteous, and accommodating throughout my stay... and they were available 24/7. I even had to unexpectedly extend my stay, and Carlton Yee was incredibly helpful in making any changes to my reservation without complications, as well as helping me w/ printing documents needed for work-related matters. Great hotel, kind staff, and I’m overall very happy with the service provided!

This is a pretty cool joint, seemed very new in fact the room smelled of fresh paint. Very industrial chic, with a nice cool bar area which does food as well as some nice local beers. 3 floors of hotel and 12 floors of apartments.
Breakfast complimentary for Diamond members which was nice and there is a great rooftop terrace with views of Manhattan. NJ Transit station across the street for an easy 40 minute train ride into NYC Penn St Station, also numerous nice eateries etc around the surrounding streets. Thoroughly recommend this property for a NYC stay.

+1
I booked this hotel for company recommendation. It was recommended as hotel of choice. Well I hope I don’t sound like a high maintenance person but the hotel didn’t live up to the expectation. The hotel is in their need of repair and maintenance. The rooms are kind of outdated see attached pictures. I was at room 412 and I couldn’t cool off the room for three days. It took 72 hours to drop the temperature from 74 degrees to 65 degrees. At the same time my hot water was barely dripping from the shower. The only way to have a good stream and a good flow in the shower was to use cold water. So I was taking cold showers and I was staying in a hot room. I did digital check in however I had a question for the front desk which by the way were very nice. However, I have to yell at them in order to be able to hear them over the Super loud music coming from the restaurant right next to us. I believe that the employees that are working on the front desk should have some earplugs to prevent their ears from the noise damage. I believe the noise was way over 80 decibels which is considered dangerous. Floors one through four are hotel and everything above that it’s a residential. In my room specifically, I could hear when someone was flushing the restroom or taking shower above me I can hear the water draining into the pipes. They also were working on the room above me every day starting at 8 am. With me working NIGHTS this was kind of bothersome. If you are bothered by noise Avoid room 412. You can hear running water 24/7. Looks like main pipe of the building is running there because I can hear waterfall sound 24/7…I enjoyed it to be honest.
No microwave or fridge in rooms either. One sharable microwave is available in the lobby.
The gym looks new and there is no towels or TV or mirrors inside the gym. Very simple setup and probably the coldest room in the building. My first day here they shut off the water between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM no water in the hotel at all. The rooftop is very nice and relaxing area I will probably say the highlight of the entire hotel. Is a diamond member I never understood if I have any perks in this hotel? Due to the heavy noise mentioned above I was never able to ask or hear on front desk if I have a free breakfast included or if the parking is free for diamond members I ended up eating outside of the hotel and also paying parking fees outside of the hotel. I did however receive my two free waters LOL. I also noticed when I checked out and puled my portfolio that I have $15 credit per day plus 1000 points. I didn’t even use any of those $15 per day because I was not aware.
Again maybe if there is no 80+ Decibels of music during check in will be beneficial so guests can hear the Receptionist.
Big Kudos to the staff – everyone I met was friendly and attentive.

I stayed here while visiting family. My room was less than clean. A note in the room stated 4th floor was only being cleaned on Thursdays due to COVID. We couldn’t walk on floors because they were sticky, bathroom towels had stains, as did walls. Curtains did not close fully. Maybe I got a bad room? I expect more for the price, reviews and things should be cleaner/cleaned more during a pandemic. Staff at front desk was friendly and helpful, but hotel didn’t impress. Loud music in other rooms. Just cancelled my next stay there due to this.

We stayed here over a month during the COVID19 pandemic and have to say this is in a perfect location. The train station is right across the street and even though a lot of things were closed in the area, several places were still within walking distance. We initially stayed at another hotel but felt it cold and empty. The style of the hotel from the furniture to the lighting made it feel so welcoming while still being trendy. For someone not from the state, the front desk staff were amazing in directing us to places to eat and things to do! Carlton and Steven were amazing and were always available to assist in anything we needed. I have never experienced such hospitality and warmth from a hotel before. I would love to see this hotel when it is at it's full glory and amenities aren't closed down due to COVID19.

This hotel is across the street from the train that runs 24/7 between NYC and Camden, NJ. Staying here and using the train to go back and forth to NYC is a bargain.
There is always some performing art show in the train plaza. It is clean, well lighted and safe.
The hotel is an homage to Nicola Tesla. It is charmingly early 20th century decor. Having said that it should be noted that the use of weak, dim old fashioned bulbs makes the room darker than needed. A bright light and a comfy reading chair would be welcome in the rooms. This is really a problem though in the elevator banks where black walls and dim lights are creepy. My husband & I thought we were in a Black Box theater.
Victor, the customer service manager was wonderful. Every hotel should have a Victor.
We were surprised the room did not have a mini-fridge so Victor had one brought up. This worked out great but it should be standard in the hotel.
Parking is in the Rahway City garage at half price. This is a clean and safe place to park and there is a back entrance to the hotel.
The bar is expensive, even at the half price happy hour. 2 pino grigios and a rum & coke cost $35.
The hotel is clean and the beds are wonderful! It is quiet and we had a view of the train plaza.
There are numerous bars and restaurants around the area ranging from the local sports bar to a Cuban upscale restaurant, a Pakistani (Halal) restaurant, and an American tavern, called The Waiting Room, due to the proximity to the train.

Thank you so much for your detailed response of us here at The Watt Hotel! My name is James and I am the Front Office Manager here at The Watt. I am so glad that Victor was able to go above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I am happy he was able to provide a Mini Fridge as they are by request and depend on availability. We are working towards getting more and stocking as many rooms as possible. As you stated the hotel is based upon Tesla and Edison so our lighting is a bit different than most to perfectly fit the theme. I will look into more lighting for the elevator banks as we never want anyone to feel uncomfortable. We are also working on updating our rooms, which you will see when you return in the future. We are so glad that overall you enjoyed your stay and the City of Rahway and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Come on Hilton this kind of standard is far from what you would usually put your good name to. The hotel has a major noise issue because of the exceptionally thin walls and solid (and slightly sticky) floors. I could hear my neighbor talking, every word crisp as if he was in my room. Heard every snore loud and clear, every footstep he took, and on the other side that neighbor was partying until 5am, as were many in the corridors. Also very few staff on hand for anything. Whole hotel absolutely stank of weed like it is infused in the walls. No fridge therefore nowhere to put my medication so had to keep my life-sustaining meds cold with ice in the sink, this is frankly unacceptable for a hotel that prices in this range. Hilton, Please invest a little more on the basics like sound insulation, air freshening, and maybe a small fridge… not much to ask for an overnight stay in this price range. Recommend avoiding until basics installed.

Our stay at the Watt was exceptional. The service from the front desk staff definitely drove this 5 star review. James was excellent from start to finish. He was able to block about 8-10 rooms together on the same floor for a bridal party attending a bridal shower, at short notice. James also assisted me in getting a package delivered to my home, as the carrier made a mistake and delivered it after my checkout. There were a handful of things with the cleanliness of the rooms and water pressure that happened with our party. They were rectified quickly and I think that speaks volumes over the incidents themselves. I would stay at the Watt again if I am ever in Rahway.

Let me start by saying this do not stay at the Watt hotel. During my stay here I was absolutely flabbergasted at how filthy the floors were coming in from the entrance of the parking garage . Second the security factor is a huge concern there isn’t any , it seems they let anyone off the street come in to building and trespass . And for the life me I can not understand how this hotel turns your phone line off so you can not contact the front desk . While trying to go to sleep I heart multiple altercations in the hallways , and to top of it off you couldn’t even call the front desk because they have disconnected the phone lines in the room . This hotel has become an affordable housing unit, and they are notifying the guests of the hotel before booking . It is Not a safe hotel for an individual or a family please look at other places . From what I was told the hotel has gone down thill drastically . When you stay at a hotel you should feel safe it was a disgrace . During the pandemic people needs places to live , I get it but the way this hotel is managed is deplorable .

Responded 23 Mar 2021
Thank you for taking the time to review us here at The Watt. I would first like to address your claim that we are "an affordable housing unit", this could not be further from the truth. Our building is a multiple occupancy building with our hotel floors 1-4 and an apartment building from floors 5 and up. These are luxury apartments. We at the Watt do not offer long stays and it seems as if there were some inconsiderate guests that had disturbed you. Also, we do not "just let anyone in", our front door locks at 930pm and our back door stays locked 24/7. You need a key card to access both of these doors, which you can only get if you are a guest of the hotel. We also do not disconnect the phone lines. Our staff does walk the floors to see what is going on, and while investigating your claim our overnight desk agent did talk to the other guests about the noise complaint. Also, when your travel partner, who wrote the review directly below this, came to check out they were offered a discount on the room for the inconvenience. Your reservation was also shortened without penalty seeing as you did not feel comfortable here. As you can see from our many other reviews this is not a common occurrence, but an unfortunate situation. I can ay that we will be further training our team on how to handle inconsiderate guests, as all of our guests deserve to feel comfortable during their stay. I do hope you have a wonderful day and thank you again for your review.
