Detailed Reviews
My husband and I are so happy we chose Courtyard by Marriott Rockaway- Mt. Arlington Hotel for our wedding block! Our wedding venue shared with us a list of hotels in the area and Marriott was our first choice! Perfect distance from our wedding venue and when we visited the hotel, we were very impressed with the cleanliness, updated structure, amenities, customer service, and bedroom layout. Check in and check out process was seamless. The front desk receptionists were very knowledgeable, kind, and welcoming. Breakfast is okay. But most importantly our communication with Julia and the sales team was enjoyable and not stressful. They were able to manage our large hotel block requests, quickly adapt to any changes we asked for, and every single one of our guests enjoyed their stay (including us). Our family members, friends and guests loved the size of the hotel, friendly environment, and appreciated the organization of the hotel directing our guests to use our transportation services to and from our venue. Lastly, our favorite feature was the hotel offering an additional cost of a DJ for our wedding after party in the lobby of the hotel. The DJ played great music, the bar was open, and the lobby had plenty of room for our guests to sit and stand comfortably. Thank you for a great stay, Courtyard by Marriott Rockaway- Mt. Arlington! We highly recommend all personal, business, or big event stays here!

Stayed here for a wedding I was attending and the staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. They helped me check in early since the wedding was earlier in the day. The room was ready and immaculate. The front desk employee helped me figure out all the logistics for the wedding including when and where the shuttle would pick guests up. After the wedding, they hosted a great after-party in the lobby of the hotel and even opened the bar for us. It is in a very convenient location especially when you consider how many wedding venues are out that way and how few hotels. Would highly recommend!

Judging from earlier reviews, this hotel must have been recently renovated. It looked like a brand new hotel I’d never seen before.
Front desk staff, especially Melissa was outstanding!
Room was immaculate! Posting photos at the end.
Eight different couples were either getting married, having rooms blocked or a reception during the weekend we were there. Nice to see.
Only downside was that the gym was not open, I guess it’s being renovated so I had to do some laps around the hotel grounds.
I’d definitely stay here again.

I booked this hotel while traveling on business. I was surprised because my husband and I travel often with Marriott and have Titanium status. We understand the differences between the Marriott brands and expect a certain standard at Courtyard. This property fell way short of that standard. (I suspect the building may have once been a different brand and was retrofitted into a Courtyard property because the entire property seemed off and the place has a remodeled feeling.) There was no closet in the room (you could see where it had been) but there was a long bar where you could have hung clothes/coat if there had been any hangers or hooks—maybe the bar is there for chin-ups? Weird. The only place to hang anything at all was behind the bathroom door and it was such a chintzy hook that the towel fell off immediately. The room had an updated decor but an old-school heater/fan unit and the finishing details in the bathroom were cheap. The towels were polyester that did not absorb water, etc. Bathroom shower was oddly narrow, maybe a former bathtub? The worst part of the stay was the noise. As far as I could tell, there were maybe 10-12 cars total in the parking lot, so you would think the place would have been quiet. However, the front desk must have clustered all the guests into one small area. I heard loud voices until past midnight, pulsating music, and people talking. I would have changed rooms but didn't want to pack up at the late hour and go down to the front desk. The lobby had had a burst pipe earlier in the day, so all the lobby furniture was askew and the rug by the elevator was so wet that water leaked through my boots when I stood on it. I don't think the front desk staff realized the rugs had also been flooded. When I checked out, there was no one at the front desk, so I dropped my key and then saw two employees smoking right in front of the double doors. That's just never a classy look. It had snowed during the night and the parking lot had been somewhat plowed but everything was still icy; salt or sand would have made walking to my car less treacherous. The one bright sport was that the housekeeper was very professional and friendly. COVID or no COVID, there's no excuse for this property's condition. And don't get me started that you can't even get a cup of coffee!!

Response from Joshua Levin, General Manager at Courtyard Rockaway-Mt. Arlington
Responded 24 Jan 2022
Dear Heather B242, First and foremost, thank you for choosing our hotel for your business travels! Secondly, thank you for providing this very constructive feedback, as with all guest experiences (good or bad), we strive to be better with each one. While I dislike making “excuses” on behalf of the hotel, please do let me clarify a few items: As of 2021, Marriott has updated the Courtyard Brand Standards in our guest rooms along the guestroom design; we were one of the 1st 70 hotels to implement the guestroom changes and updates including the hanger bar, showers with sliding glass doors and other touches you noticed in the guestroom. This design is currently in process of being rolled out at all Courtyards. Unfortunately, yes, we did have a pipe burst in the hotel, and while it’s not something we were able to prepare for, we should’ve done a better job at expeditiously moving to dry as many wet carpets as possible. We hoped that the signage we provided would help guests understand, but we know there is no excuse for getting anyone’s feet wet! I’m surprised to hear that you were unable to get coffee! As with all Courtyards, coffee is provided during our breakfast period as well as providing a coffee maker in-room, in hopes of you being able to have coffee as often as you’d like! Our apologies regarding the ice, and while we salted the night before and the morning of the storm, perhaps there were a few spots that when the pipe burst, the salt just wasn’t strong enough. Again, it is within our hotel to do better and assure you that should you allow us another opportunity to redeem ourselves, we will! Warm Regards, Joshua Levin General Manager

I'm giving this 2 stars - 1 for cleanliness and 1 for the kind and friendly staff. The rest of the stars were lost on the entire experience.
First, upon walking into our room there was a considerable wet spot in the carpet. I don't even want to guess what was cleaned up prior to our check in, but it was still very wet.
We arrived for a wedding, so as we unpacked and prepped to hang our event clothing we noticed a completely useless "closet" which consisted of an industrial bar and no hangers. It's also too shallow to hang a normal hanger. Then we'll just use a dresser. Nope! Nothing for clothing storage. There was a desk and chair, some rolling console thing, a nightstand and beds. Living out of a suitcase for several days is not fun. The entire room was about form and not function.
Whatever. We went to dinner, and upon coming back, one guest was excited to go to the pool. We check with the front desk to ask where it's located, and despite the pool being advertised on their website, it was actually filled in months ago to become a conference area. Awesome. What about the gym? Well, that's closed, too. Still advertised as an amenity. Leaving the next morning, I'm shuffling around the room looking for a do not disturb, and there's nothing. I ended up using a piece of scrap paper.
The room keys we used to access our rooms said "Elite" on them - so thinking I had signed up for the Elite membership last time I was at a Marriott, I went ahead and used the wifi. NOPE! $5 for that, and the connectivity was garbage. On the final morning, went to use the hair dryer and "hey, this bathroom outlet isn't working", so I tried another. The hairdryer was broken.
For $400 and 2 nights, we got no closet, no place to store clothes, no advertised amenities, no continental breakfast, and weak wifi. This entire experience was about under-providing basic comforts of travel and then nickel and diming you for the rest.
To add insult to injury, our travel partner booked her room 2 days before the wedding, for which we used the wedding block, and she paid $50 less. The bride and groom specifically reserved easily 20 rooms for their guests. That's an easy sale for a hotel chain, and rather than providing a wonderful experience, they under provided and overcharged.
I will never stay at a Marriott chain again. Loyalty is earned with customer service, and this was grossly lacking. This is why we usually stay at mom and pop inns, and will continue to do so.

We scheduled a block of rooms for a wedding that was being held at a near by venue. Several of our guests were told that the block was sold out when it was not and then over charged for their rooms. Several calls to the event planner went unanswered. Planned a breakfast the morning after the wedding, supposed to be specialty omelet and pancake stations, we were served cold scrambled eggs. Event planner was of course no where to be found, however she overcharge my credit card and has refused to send me an invoice. Very unprofessional.

Covid remains an excuse for no service and no food at this Courtyard Hotel. But the real issue is the newly refurbished rooms. Minimalist furniture leaves only 2 small drawers for storage of anything in the room. No storage in the bathroom(only small countertop
Nightstand have no drawer. Best of all their is no closet! Just what would normally be a bath grab bar mounted 6 feet up on a wall. Of course it only stands out 3 inches from the wall, so nothing can be hung perpendicular
to the wall on a hanger- Wait, THEY DON'T provide any hangers either!
So be prepared to live out of your suitcase when you stay here.
This motel is used for many local weddings. To think that guests, wearing gowns and black tie, want to live out of their suitcases is ridiculous. Shame on Marriott. This place sucks!!!!!!!

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on our property. We are always looking for ways to improve and will share your sentiments about our renovation design with the appropriate team. We are currently serving breakfast every morning and our bar is currently open Wednesday through Sunday nights. While we apologize that they were not in your room at check-in, we do provide hangers for guest rooms and would have been happy to have supplied you with them.

We stayed at this hotel for a family wedding. We stay two days; a Saturday and a Sunday. Overall, this is not what I expected from the Marriott. We paid $250/day which is a substantial amount.we showed twice our first day so our towels were dirty. I asked at the front desk if I could have fresh towels and have our bed made. The lady said yes to the towels but said, “I don’t think I can ask them to make your bed.” I explained that I didn’t want clean sheets, just pull the bed together. We ate breakfast and spent a couple of hours in the lobby. I returned to my room, saw 2 maids in the hall and went into my room. The towels were on the toilet and the dirty towels were on the floor and the bed was unmade. At approximately $550.00 for two days I think they could have picked up the dirty towels and made the bed. I don’t think I should have to step over dirty towels and make my own bed. The food selection at breakfast was minimal and the scrambled eggs were not hot. Poor customer service.

Dear Dissatisfied Guest, I am very sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your stay at the hotel. We certainly pride ourselves on being hospitable, and based on your feedback, that’s not the case here. In 2023 Marriott rolled out a new housekeeping model where Courtyard by Marriott hotels offer cleaning service every other day to the guestrooms which is detailed during the booking process. While we try our best to go above and beyond to accommodate all requests for stays less than 3 nights; we cannot always refresh all requested rooms. We offer delivery of towels to the guestroom as you received, and we have areas in the bathroom where towels can be placed during a 2-night stay for your convenience. For the safety of not only our housekeepers but our guests, rooms cannot be cleaned while guests are still in the room. I was most surprised to hear about your experience with our Food and Beverage, as we generally receive quite the opposite feedback; nonetheless, I’ll be sure to speak with our management team to address the concerns noted. Warm regards,

If you are thinking about staying here for your wedding block, I’d strongly advise you DO NOT order food at the after party!! We arrived back from our wedding only to find half the food spread gone and a room full of other wedding parties enjoying our food. When we brought it to the bar managers attention he snapped at the bride and said he could not be bothered with that right now. This staff has zero control over their facility and events. Do not order food unless you feel like paying to feed the generic public! Disgraceful! Even worse, after the fact it was nearly impossible to get a call / email returned from the managers or even Marriott Corporate. GM and Head of Sales offered little to no solution for this botched event and were hardly even sympathetic. Once again if you do use this hotel, do not preorder food for after party! Might as well bring in your own or order pizzas despite their no outside food policy, considering they have no control of the room anyhow.

Located in an area that doesn’t offer a lot to do or close to anything. Rooms are OK, but no pool, a gym with very little equipment, a restaurant that is only open ”on and off”. One day there was a good breakfast buffet, the next day you could only order ”coffee house” style dishes from the bar (in a hotel restaurant!?). No licensed rearaurants in walking distance, so a car is a must.
There are a lot better hotels not far away!

Hello! Unfortunately, we have permanently closed our pool and will not be reopening it.
The lobby and front desk area have been completed but the rooms have not been renovated yet. Courtyard has a new design rolling out and we will be doing that for the interior as well as the exterior. We are super excited to get this started!
I am not sure if the hotel is pet friendly. You would have to call them directly
The Bistro is open for breakfast Mon-Fri from 6:30am-9:30am and on weekends from 7:00am-11:00am. We proudly brew Starbucks coffee and specialty beverages 24 hours a day 7 days a week!
Hi Tammy L! Our check in time is 3pm and our check out time is 12pm. While we cannot guarantee early check in or late check out, they can be offered if available based on business demand. Please feel free to call us at the hotel if you have any additional questions. Thank you for considering staying at the Mt. Arlington Courtyard!
