Not a new hotel...but one I would like to thank. Staff at reception for check-in and check-out were super friendly. As a Diamond, I was pre-assigned a quiet room. Also, no non-sense Diamond 15usd credit here. They do provide a voucher for a full breakfast. So thanks to the way this Doubletree is run! It does feel very pre-covid, it feels simply good. it's so rare these days to be able to say so of any hotel! So thanks to the management and the team, keep the good job going please! Wish there were more hotels like yours!

In town for a recent 3 day training session with BMW Motorrad USA my entire stay at the Double Tree (Hilton) Hotel in Mahwah, NJ was superb. The room was perfect (quiet and dark when needed), the bed and pillows comfy and the bathroom spotless and stocked.
The complimentary breakfast was plentiful and fresh each day and I and a co-worker dined at the bar/restaurant one evening and the food and service were excellent. We enjoyed drinks twice more and got fine service.

I stayed here on business in November 2020. I have stayed at many DoubleTree Hotels over the years, and have always found them to be top notch and reliable. My experience at the Mahwah DoubleTree unfortunately did not meet those expectations. First of all, the good: The staff was very polite and the bed was very comfortable. Ultimately, I guess that is truly what you need to sleep well in a hotel. The good part of this review ends here. There is no provision for any meal (other than a limited brown bag breakfast for $5) in this hotel. McDonalds is a brisk but easy walk from the hotel , but with COVID, you can’t eat there. Because of this, we had to bring food back to the hotel lobby and eat in that location. They usually offer coffee in the AM, but my first morning there, the coffee pot ran out, was empty, and was not refilled. I returned after business on the first day and found that housekeeping had not visited the room. I am OK with re-using towels for more than one day, so again, not the worst that could happen but not a normal Hilton standard. Overall I slept well, but having visited many in the past, I would expect much more from a Hilton DoubleTree. You might want to look for other options with more amenities when staying in Mahwah.

Me, my husband and my kids checked in on September 2. As soon as we walked in the hotel, it was hot, humid and the hallway had funky smell. We got to our room and at first it looked ok. Furniture was very old and scratched, there was peeling paint on the bathroom ceiling, very dark carpet so it looked dirty. The toilet wouldn’t flush fully and the water kept running. We called maintenance and they fixed it - or so we thought. Next time we used the bathroom same thing. The AC started making noise. I went to the front desk and asked for another room. They switched my rooms right away. Our next room looked a little better but not much. The first night were in, my daughter noticed a huge bug on the ceiling and it crawled into the sprinkler. Once again I went to the front desk and this time they send someone to spray the room for bugs. That same night we watched a few Centipedes crawling in the room. On Sunday we get back to the room and notice that all of the stuff we had on the bed has been moved and housekeeping replaced sheets. My daughters stuffed animals were thrown on the floor and a little rolled up ball of a blanket was gone. Her great grandma gave her that blanket 16 years ago and it was just gone. We told the front desk but unfortunately housekeeping thru it out. So a priceless Possession is gone and my daughters heart is broken. This hotel is worse that a super 8 and motel 6. I couldn’t believe how bad and run down this place is. It doesn’t deserve the name Hilton! I wouldn’t recommend this place to an enemy let alone a friend or a family member. The people at the front desk were very sweet and professional but there isn’t much they could have done.

Response from Max Wohlfarth, General Manager at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Mahwah
Responded 5 Oct 2020
Dear 328AnnaS328, I again apologize to you and your family for the unfortunate loss of your daughter's blanket. I was the person on duty when you reported this to the front desk, and I along with another manager and two associates searched the housekeeping carts and the trash to no avail. I connected with you as I told you about how attached my son was/is to his first blanket, which he still has, and keeps hidden to this day. I am also the person that went with the Orkin representative to spray your room, we found no bugs, however with the clothes and other items on the floor, it was difficult to maneuver the room. We also noted that there was food and food wrappers, as well as open soda cans throughout the room, these can certainly contribute to the presence of pests. I am so sorry that I was not made aware of the other issues you had in the first room, I surely would have address those immediately to your satisfaction. Again, my sincere apology for the loss of the blanket piece, and as I told you in person, I am happy to replace this blanket, or its value upon notification.

I was traveling with my young daughter and we decided to stop for the night since we still had 5 hours left in our drive. I wanted to give her a bath, but the shower head was broken and wouldn't turn off fully. Also for a king size room the only towels provided were two bath towels- no hand towels, no bath mat, etc. I tried to call the front desk to request an extra towel for the now soaked floor from the shower head that wouldn't turn off... other than the room phone didn't work either. I called on my cell phone but had to be transferred and was on hold before getting the front desk. Also, for the price of the hotel to not have any thing provided in the lobby in the morning as far as coffee or fruit was a disappointment. Their breakfast offerings in the restaurant were very overpriced.

I arrived in the evening when the hotel was at extremely low occupancy.
As a HH Diamond member I was given my free water and cookie at checkin and assigned room 440. The water and cookie and made to order eggs were about the only thing consistent with the DoubleTree by Hilton brand.
While I was waiting to check in I noticed the pillow on the lobby chair was frayed along the edge which really shouldn’t be your first impression at a hotel. There also wasn’t any coffee available outside of breakfast hours.
Many of the reviews suggest getting a room facing the rear of the hotel. 440 faces the rear but the view is of a large parking lot. So neither side of the hotel has particularly interesting views.
There is a large free parking lot with no spaces reserved for HH Diamond members. The walk around to the front entrance is awkward and uncomfortable if you have luggage and/or bad weather.
The room was very dated and the surface of the dresser in front of the TV had cracked and water-damaged laminate. The base of the bed also had a section of laminate missing. And lastly the chair and ottoman were from two different pieces that seemed to have been salvaged and made into an unmatched pair.
The halls were very unwelcoming and carpeted with dark patterned carpeting which seemed to be done to hide the stains.
I rely on Hilton brands to be reliable and consistent. I don’t suggest staying here until they bring the hotel back up to minimum DoubleTree standards.
Needless so say I left early and I’m heading to a different DoubleTree. I’ll let you know how that goes. Your experience may vary but I was definitely disappointed in my stay.
I didn’t bother taking pictures and wasting bandwidth on uploading them. It is possible there are newer updated rooms somewhere else in the hotel but what I got to see of it wasn’t up to the brand.
Happy Travels!

Hiltons are a mid-range hotel and that being said, I had no complaints in the three nights of my stay. Its somewhat larger than it looks, having six meeting rooms/ ballrooms. I was there for a family wedding being held elsewhere. The front desk staff were very nice and extremely helpful at check-in, and gave me warm cookies, directions when needed and suggestions about where to eat. The day following the wedding, my cousin hosted a breakfast for those of us who had remained overnight. It was a buffet and well done, with bacon, cut fruit, pastries, yogurt, cereal and other items. Well done, and tasted good as well. The room was a standard hotel room with individual temperature control. Coffee pot, microwave and mini-fridge were all in the room. Desk with chair. The bed was clean and comfortable with 4 pillows. The bathroom not new, but clean and in excellent condition. The staff recommended a local diner, the State Line Diner, for breakfast the day when their own restaurant was closed. A great place I recommend. One store past the Super 8 Hotel next door to them is a local McDonalds, which is walkable ( but be careful of moving cars in the parking lots). We ate twice at their own restaurant, Tavern 17, a large place with modern decor. The staff were amazingly friendly and we ate there twice. Right now due to the lingering economic impact of covid, their restaurant is only open with modified hours and a somewhat limited menu. Check with the hotel for the schedule if that is an issue. One evening we noted they had a number of locals eating there, and there are several TVs playing while you eat. Reasonable price hotel room for what you get. Elevator to the upper floors; no bellmen to help with luggage. A car rental facility is inside the Hotel.Workout room. Pool was closed while we were there. Large parking lot in the rear. One annoyance: The hotel is on Route 17, a large and noisy highway. You could hear the traffic much of the night. I managed, but if you are an exceptionally light sleeper, that could be an issue. If so, ask for a room off the parking lot in the back to mitigate the noise factor.

For all Tesla drivers. This hotel has one Tesla Destination Charger with a 75amp output.
I was able to fully charge in 5 hours and then I moved my car to an open spot to allow others to charge if needed before I went to bed.
