Detailed Reviews
I book this hotel often. I not only grew up in NJ but also have family and friends in the Mahwah area. This Marriott Courtyard is friendly and helpful. Look for Valerie, Lyndsey, Brooke, Margareto, Rich, David. They and the rest of their staff will make your stay fun, pleasant and problem free. Interested?

Medium size rooms are quiet and comfortable with many bonuses. There are large screen tv's with an abundant amount of channels which are free. Rooms are clean and attractive with balconies. Each room has a coffee maker, many shampoo products, and a refrigerator.
The lobby has tasty food and delicious wines set in an updated large area with fireplace, business center and different seating options. In warmer weather, the courtyard and outside are flowered, landscaped nicely and attractive with outdoor seating and firepit. Parking is excellent, An indoor pool & small workout room is nice to have.
Mahwah Courtyard is close to malls, outlets, fine dining, and even Long Island & NYC.
Next week I'm visiting this special hotel, again. It's been ten years of my frequenting Courtyard by Marriott Mahwah!

The place is decent enough and the cost was much less than expected. It looks like it may have formerly been a Courtyard. My room was clean, quiet, and comfortable enough.
On the negative side, they do not seem to have outdoor cameras (only one overlooking reception). There were unsavory folks walking the parking lot while others blatantly smoked pot in their vehicles. I didn’t necessarily feel safe going to my vehicle after dark.
When I arrived there was no one behind the desk. There were two random people hanging out in the lobby, who turned out to be employees. The manager was very friendly and helpful during the check in process. The employee was more aloof and self absorbed.
I later visited the lobby to meet my Uber Eats driver and, again, there was no one behind the desk or food/hospitality bar area. After several minutes, the same employee as earlier emerged from the office area to retrieve something from the front desk. After she ignored me standing at the hospitality bar, I walked over and asked if there was someone who could help me. She said “no” and added that it was closed (it was around 7 PM). To clarify, I asked - so, I wouldn’t be able to buy a bottle of beer to bring to my room? Again, she said “no” that the location was not currently operating in that capacity. This seemed odd since there packaged and beer displayed for sale. There was no mention that the food and beverage options were limited at check in and there were no signs indicating such. In fact, there was a sign in the sundries shop directing patrons to the hospitality bar for additional selections.
I’m the morning, there was no one behind the desk and no evidence of coffee, complimentary or otherwise, available.

Although this hotel is right off the highway, I highly recommend it for an overnight stay. Room is spacious and very comfortable. King size bed, sitting area with loveseat, desk, refrigerator and extra amenities including soft and plenty of towels. Rooms and hallways are nicely carpeted. Lobby area and bar/cafe are very well done and modern. Pickup breakfast choices and Starbucks available. In addition, pets are allowed, price was extremely reasonable and staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again!

this is an email I sent to the manager. no response.
I recently had the abhorrent experience of spending 4 nights and 5 days at your hotel
4 people noted that I asked to speak with you. I was given confirmation there were 2 notes in the computer to you and for housekeeping to attend to my room.
as you know you never bothered to contact me and were never in the building during my stay for me to speak with you directly.
when i arrived someone else's used smoking materials were in my room. I had to clean it up.
I was participating in a USATF clinic and returned dirty, sweaty and tired each night. I had to get my own towels, I had to go get coffee, I had to go get bags for use in the ice bucket, I had to get coffee cups. towels were never cleaned up. trash was never taken out, those messy plastic coffee trays were never cleaned up. sheets, even dirty sweaty sheets that I asked specifically to be changed were not.
My stay was unpleasant, uncomfortable and the sonesta completely ripped me off failing to provide any cleaning or sanitation services, no breakfast and a manager who cannot be bothered with customer concerns.
ALL of the employees were very pleasant!!!

Rooms were clean and appropriately sized. Bathrooms were a little small, but OK. The only real problem was the professionalism (or lack thereof) of the front desk staff. I guess it’s just hard to find quality people these days. I could barely understand the woman who checked us in, and the other front desk staff seemed little more professional. The housekeeping staff was very nice, and even expressed appreciation for the tips we left them.

We booked early October, two rooms with King beds. We traveled 5 hours from Boston for a family reunion. We checked in online and also contacted them directly to let them know it would be a late check in. We arrived and the front desk says casually....oh we are over booked, we only have one of your rooms available, they gave you room out late afternoon. She had an awful attitude and says "it's not my fault", then says "there are other places to stay around here". I said "so you expect us to drive around an area we know nothing about"? She made three phone-calls to local hotels and there was nothing available. We stood in this lobby for an hour. No manager on property until Monday. Finally I said "give us the one room and please get us a couple of roll away beds. We get to the room and the
"one" roll away is stuffed in the room, bed not made and 4 pillows for 5 people. No extra blankets. This was an awful experience and to top it off, I was told I would receive a call from the Manager and still haven't. Tried calling and it rings 5 times and call drops. I use Marriott for my company's employees so often and now I shall re-think using them. Wait, the best part is, she asked me for a credit card for incidentals. Yikes, where is management when you need it and where is the phone call from said management. We have 5 rooms in NY City in November and if I do not hear from them with any sort of make up, I will cancel all 5 rooms.

We arrived at night and were checked in easily by a nice young man. There is a nice variety of food options in the lobby if you need something to eat. The room itself wasn't amazing but modern and up to date. We were on the road side, and road noise was considerable so a light sleeper would need to be on the opposite side of the building. Beds were comfy enough. I had to iron some shirts and when using the steam feature, it permanently stained my shirt. A wall outlet was not securely fastened and was a safety concern.
We had a misunderstanding about a possible continental breakfast. Instead there was a Starbuck's counter that had enough selection to satisfy us. Overall a nice mid level hotel.

First off, the pictures on the Marriott website are a woeful misrepresentation of the hotel. This property is in desperate need of a refresh. Many places throughout the hotel you will see numerous scratches, scuffs, dents, and water spots. The television in our room did not function the entire time we were there and numerous calls to the front desk still left the TV inoperable. Also, the hotel on Saturday night reeked of weed throughout. I thought the hotel was non-smoking?
I guess the only saving grace was the housekeeping staff. They left the room well-stocked and tidy. Upon check-out, it was discovered there was an erroneous charge on our folio. We mentioned as we were checking out and we promised the manager would look into this and correct our bill. Well, the charge posted and further follow-up we were met with the same indifferent attitude and no resolution. This hotel was just ok, but will be looking for other hotels in the area next time we are in northern NJ.

Hotel is built along an extremely noisy highway! At 1 AM I went down to the front desk to get relocated due to road noise. The desk clerk asked me to come back in one hour (2 AM) because she was locked out of their computer. Eventually, I returned back and was moved to a room on the opposite side of the property. I could still hear road noise, but it was not significant enough to disrupt my rest. I complained the following morning about the situation, mainly because I wasn’t helped at 1 AM and was asked to return at 2 AM. The manager was supposed to compensate me with points for the situation but as of now, two weeks later, no points were deposited in my account. I wouldn’t recommend saying here due to road noise.

The rooms were clean and comfortable. There is plenty of parking. It's near nothing in terms of walking to stores, restaurants, parks, etc. Staff was overwhelmed at 4pm for check in and the wait was unreasonably long to get keys and get to room

I think it depends how busy the hotel is - I was able to get early check in.
Good recommendations by other reviewers. I also recall stopping at a McDonald's just a few buildings down for a couple of $ menu items one morning. Another morning I ate at the hotel which did have good food but like many Courtyard branded hotels, breakfast is not typically included in the room price.
