Hotel's Favourite
We liked this hotel. Our room was spotlessly clean, the staff were friendly, and the location was perfect for us. We wished that the bathroom were larger -- it has very limited space for the usual things we keep in a bathroom (shaving cream and razor, deodorant, hair spray, toothbrush, etc.) But the pluses far outweighted this inconvenience. The breakfast was what you'd expect from a budget hotel -- nothing special, but adequate and reasonably tasty. The hotel staff did a great job of keeping the breakfast room clean and well-supplied even though it was a bit crowded in the mornings since a bridal party was staying at the hotel. We'll probably stay there again in the future.

I am an IHG member. When I started to book online using the IHG website in November, I noted that I would be responsible for the entire visit (6 nights) if I were to cancel or no-show. I called the front desk at the hotel in Haskell to see whether there was an alternative in which I could get the online advance rate ($95 + change) without committing, as we had a lot of traveling from NC to NJ in potential winter weather. The representative I spoke with booked the room at the going rate, somewhere around $125 per night, and told me if I called the day before or the day of our arrival, the rate would revert to the online ($95+ change). Well, the hotel would not honor that, so for our 6-night stay, we overpaid by about $30 each night. We have been members for decades. We stayed 6 nights. The room was clean, but nothing special, and the shower head did not function well. We were not happy. I think the hotel management should have considered our story and history, even though, stupidly, I did not note the date or representative I had spoken with. Although we have family close by, and this is the most convenient venue for future visits, we will not stay here again unless they try to make us up to us in some way - which, by the way, no one did.

It is your typical HIE. Everything was clean, room layout was good, bathroom very clean, beds comfy with a selection of pillows. Keurig, microwave and mini fridge in the room. Our room faced the road, but there was no noise. Very quiet. We only stayed one night as it was very close to a restaurant we were meeting family at for dinner. My ONLY complaint is we were assigned a 3rd floor room and were told the elevator was not working. Outside temps were over 90 degrees. I inquired when it would be fixed and was told soon. We checked in at about 2 PM on Saturday and the elevator was still not fixed at 8:30 AM Sunday. I overheard some scuttle in the lobby on Saturday that lead me to believe that no action had been taken to fix the elevator so I pretty much knew it wasn't going to get fixed while we were there. I will def stay there again, but I will request a 2nd floor room just in case there are ongoing issues with the elevators. Other than that everything was great. Also, we attempted to get an Uber to and from the restaurant (in Oakland) but none responded. So if you're doing the same thing you may be out of luck.

I made a reservation far in advance as part of a wedding block. I was told king beds were not available, only a double room which was completely fine. I called several days prior to our visit to see if early check in was available and was told yes, 1 pm. Note: check in is normally 3 pm. We traveled 1 1/2 hours and arrived at 2 pm
We were told no rooms were available and to come back at 3 pm. We waited in our car to prevent grouping in the lobby with others during a pandemic. We returned inside at 3 pm and was told still no rooms. During this time, every person who was waiting in the lobby earlier had recieved a room. 2 of our friends who had the same room type (double) walked in and immediately got a room. The shuttle for the wedding (paid for by the couple) was leaving at 3:45. We waited in the lobby in hopes of getting a room before the shuttle left in hopes of having somewhere to get ready. We never recieved a room prior to having to leave for rhe wedding on the shuttle and had to get ready in another person's room. No shower, no hair, no makeup for this wedding. We were welcomed to sit in their lobby "because it is free". We paid for a room, I dont need a "free" lobby. We paid to use this lobby. We recieved a call at 4:30 saying our room was ready. That was 3 1/2 hours after we were told that we could check in. Janet at the front desk was rude, made comments about us as we sat 10 ft away and seemed to thoroughly enjoy our inconvenience. She stated she would discount our rooms. Original price (paid by others in wedding block) was $120. I got a charge at 4:30 for $99. The following morning, before even checking out, the hotel charged my card for almost $11. Our discount for making a pregnant lady sit in their lobby, not being able to get ready for a wedding and for Janet's attitude and disrespect towards us infront of other patrons: $9! Not worth it. If you block rooms for your wedding here, dont count on your guests being ready or able to use the shuttle that you've paid for. Do not count on early check in. Also, dont depend on the check in time listed on your reservation. Janet should not be working within customer service/hospitality. She was a very poor representation for for the hotel and company. I was one of MANY guests of the wedding who experienced this issue. Don't bother booking this hotel.

I stayed at this Holiday Inn in Haskell, NJ, in mid March because of its location and convenience to visit family and friends, as I have for years. This time though, I noticed a big change. It was very obvious that the hotel was feeding and housing a number of homeless people. Because I normally travel alone, I brought this to the attention of the front desk in addition to speaking with the manager. I was informed that he was not aware of this problem but he had cameras. I said he should watch his cameras then and he would clearly see what was going on. As I became more aware throughout my stay, I saw more evidence of this situation by the breakfast bar and throughout the hotel. Before leaving, I again told the front desk to please tell the “manager” that I am aware of what is going on and in order to make a few extra bucks, he is doing a disservice to his paying customers. I worry about my safety and the security at this hotel and I am uncomfortable in revisiting this Holiday Inn Express Haskell-Wayne area, as long as this continues. If you decide to stay there, please be observant and very aware of your surroundings because the hotel staff refused to address my concerns.

The rooms are standard Holiday Inn express fare - similar in layout and function; you've seen one, you've seen them all. The beds were firm enough, and the bathroom was clean. The heating unit was a bit noisy. Parking was easy. The breakfast both days was quite weak - they were out of most things labeled; we never saw the cinnamon buns, even the bagels were a scarcity one of two days. There is a hotcake machine, but that was empty as well one of two days, as was one of the 3 hot breakfast option. Would consider a solid option, if breakfast is improved upon.

This hotel was just the final stop on our way home from a long road trip. We came in late, and left early, so this review is all about first impressions.
There was clearly an attempt, at some point, to update this hotel. The lobby area is very nice, and the hallways have clean carpet and bright wallpaper. There are granite counters in the bathroom. But the hotel still has a shabby vibe.
Our room wasn't dirty per se, but it wasn't clean either. You know how your bathroom at home would look if you didn't give it a deep clean every now then? Well, that's what this looked like: dirty grout in the bathroom tile, greyish tub bottom, scum in all the corners, and on all the baseboards. The door bottoms were chipped, the paint was peeling off the wall in an 8-inch chunk next to the shower. The carpeting was worn and grimy.
The lack of lighting in the room contributed to the feeling of dreariness. We turned on every light in the room and you could still barely see, even during the daytime! The room entry light was so dim that my husband turned it off, thinking it hadn't been turned on. We had to leave the bathroom light on just to be able to sort through our suitcase.
The hotel breakfast was blah.
The only bright spot in our stay was that we both got a great night's sleep! The bed was firm and the sheets smooth, and there was a selection of pillows for every teast. And there was no noise! I don't know if the HVAC unit just didn't need to turn on, or if it was just particularly silent, but it was a pleasure to not be woken by a loud piece of machinery cycling on and off all night.

We booked a room for two nights because we had to leave our home for renovations so we chose this hotel specifically because it says right on their website PETS ALLOWED. And on my reservation it even asked what "type of pets" I had. Yet when I went to check in I was told that cats are not allowed. They only allow dogs. And that they "recently changed their policy". She was very rude when I asked her why it says right on their site that PETS (plural) are allowed. She just said there was nothing she could do. Which left us scrambling to find another place last minute. I will never choose this hotel again!! Awful experience!!

I spent two weeks here in September, 2020 with my mother who has dementia. My siblings and I spent this time searching for a dementia facility for Mom. The staff was very accommodating, especially as regards my mother's condition. The rooms were very clean and quiet. My room faced the lake and wooded mountain; it was a lovely view.

Overall very happy with my stay. Check in/out was easy. Room was where I requested. The fitness room actually had free weights. Clean and spacious room. Good water pressure. Only complaints were: the biscuits were the stalest hardest biscuits I've ever had. While I love that it was dog friendly, I did not see a disposal station with bags. Thankfully people seem to be responsible and take care of things themselves, but I still think it be worth installing.
