Detailed Reviews
We were very pleased with our July 2021 stay at TownePlace Suites in Dover Rockaway NJ. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and I would highly recommend this hotel for any future stay within a half hour easy drive radius. There is food options close by, as well as a small mall, and Costco. The breakfast offering was the only downside, but the cost was worth the value.

Wow. I was blown away by how well I was treated at this property. They made me feel like royalty. I’m a Marriott loyalist with lifetime status, but that’s so common now that it often goes unremarked. Not here—I felt like a VIP. Every single staff interaction was warm and personable, and it really felt as though they went the extra mile to make my stay fantastic. The property is pristine and everything was comfortable. The continental breakfast was one of the better ones I’ve encountered. This was a last-minute booking because of a family emergency.
Okay, the one mildly sour note was when I came downstairs for a luggage cart and a manager was loudly berating the front desk clerk for granting a late checkout. It happened to be me they were discussing, so that was uncomfortable. But really, she probably shouldn’t have been carrying on like that in a guest-facing part of the hotel regardless. Still, I won’t hold it against them since I never had to interact with her grumpy @$$ and everyone I dealt with was lovely. A+ experience.

Newer Hotel is spotlessly clean with tasteful decor. Grab and go breakfast was offered and pool was closed due to Covid. Locally there are plenty of stores and restaurants. Room had a small kitchen and beds are comfortable. One thing to note is how incredibly small the bathroom is. You literally had to slide in on the side of the toilet to get in and close the door.
A/C unit was sort of loud at times however the hotel itself was quiet. Had a great stay and would absolutely recommend to others visiting the area.

This is called a suites hotel. We booked three adults for a stay (our 21 year old son was with us) so we planned to use the pull out sofa as a bed. When the sofa bed is open for use it hits the king size bed!!! There is no space to walk between them! This must be a safety issue! Also there were parties on the sidewalk outside the front door of the hotel both nights. The noise at 2:00 in the morning made sleeping impossible! No help was given from the hotel staff although I asked!

Nice, quiet, clean hotel. Easy access to area. Everything needed for a weekend stay. Rockaway Mall is right down road, Dover close by. 5 mins off route 80. Everything you expect from Marriott. Good experience. Spacious rooms, well maintained. Slept well here beds real comfortable.

Great stay. Staff was super helpful and responsive. Room was new and setup for a great night’s sleep. My only suggestion is to install a thermostat in the indoor pool area. It was too cold to sit and enjoy much time there. I also would’ve loved it if the pool area had a hot tub.

It is new so the rooms are clean. It is built for efficiency. The color scheme is cold and the art work are messages. Breakfast is fair.
Was there for a wedding and there were 2 that weekend so the hotel was full. Not enough seats for everyone
Staff was courteous.

Probably a 3.5 rating. It's clean & seems pretty new. The room had a kitchen area with a microwave & a stovetop, but no oven. In my room, the refrigerator is decent, but the doors open the wrong way. There are a few cooking utinsels, silverware, glasware. The thing to cook there would be TV dinners & not much more.
The room is smallish, at least a standard room, but it has enough to get by. There is a table & chairs that can be used for dining. There's also a comfy-looking upholstered chair that has a very big arm on the left side & a normal sized arm on the right side. For someone left handed, their arm is trapped in a sense by the high side of the chair. There's a llamp behind that chair, so it's likely good for reading, save for the weird chair. There is also a reading lamp on each side of each bed, so there's a lot of light. There ought to be a few more plugs including for USB cords, of which there aren't any. The WiFi is fine & the TVi was also fine, with a decent selection of chaaannels. There's also an iron/board available. The beds were comfortable.
The batroom has a full tub, which is a fading thing these days. The sink is outside the tub & toilet, so it can be used seperately. The sink could use a towel bar/ring nearby as there is no place there to hang a towel. The drain closer unit for the tub was broken, but managed to hold water. The tub did drain well, which is not always so in hotels. There's an unusual closet there that I can't really describe. There's no dresser for folding clothes/socks except the night stand. The closet has some shelves for that I guess. The closet is unusual as noted, with a lot of wasted space.
The free breakfast was mediocre, though COVID may still be a factor. The breakfast area is very small for the size of the hotel. I could see it getting over-run if a lot of the guests arrived at once. I've stayed at a lot of different Marriott hotels & this breakfast was among the poorest. They had no butter. It seems that someone could simply go to a COSTCO or Restaurant Depot for that. Also, no english muffins. The only toastable item were individual slices of plain white bread., without butter. There was no make-your-own waffle option either.
The indoor pool is nice. I don't know if there's a small gym area. Parking seems adequate. I saw an outdoor grill available. Also during our stay, the smoke alarm went off each moring & the fire department had to be summoned to turn it off. There was no fire. This isn't necessarily the fault of the hotel, but one of the times we were still asleep. Maybe a guest was cooking to make up for the inadequate breakfast.

I was blown away by my stay at this hotel! I've stayed at hotels all around the world and some were Marriott properties. This location could really teach a master class on how a hotel should be run and look aesthetically. The customer service was second to none and the level of attention to detail was unbelievable.
This may seem small to you, but I loved that the pool had a lift for people that have impaired mobility. Also, there were signs up everywhere that detailed local numbers for the fire department and the police departments. In addition, the general manager's name was listed, which indicated to me they take pride in this location and want to transparent and accessible to guests.
I only stayed for one night, but if you're looking for an extended stay, they definitely have all the amenities you would need to make your stay enjoyable. Everything from a pool, an exercise room, BBQ grills, and a basketball court. My only regret is I wish I would have booked a longer stay.

If I could give this 3.5 stars, I would. Most aspects of this hotel are great, some are not and some are just weird.
The good: very clean, comfortable bed, awesome kitchenette with an apartment size fridge. Neat closet design - accessible as a coat closet beside the entrance and as a normal closet that opens to the bathroom. Good water pressure. Fun, inspiring artwork and neat room decor. Very nice front desk staff. Hotel still feels quite new.
The bad: the lobby has a "cluttered" layout. It's sectioned off with so many different types of tables, work spaces, an almost conference-type table and a grouping of odd arm chairs. We were there for a funeral the next day and there were 3 weddings groups staying on the same night as us. The lobby could not accommodate a fraction of the people who tried to have breakfast and get coffee the next morning. It was a zoo - for hours. Just "NO" on the fried egg patties and the veggie sausage of the otherwise standard, acceptable breakfast fare. Also, the floors above are noisy from what seems like normal walking and moving around. Our bathroom was small, as well.
The weird: the corridors are oddly depressing. Wanna be hip and cool, but honestly, just kind of moody and dark.

Dear 3 wedding and a funeral, Thank you so much for your very detailed review. One upside is that we heard you and we will be updating our corridor wallpaper this winter to make it less moody and dark. We will also try and reconfigure our breakfast area to make it flow more smoothly when we have large groups in.
