Detailed Reviews
We spent our 25th Anniversary weekend here and had a great time. The inn is luxurious and beautiful with superb attention to detail. The room was spacious with all the modern amenities, and we loved the heated tile in the bathroom. The breakfasts were prepared with fresh local ingredients by Chef John and Alex, and they were excellent. They easily accommodated our preferences and there was wonderful variety over the 4 days we were there. We also went to the Innkeeper's
Dinner at the Barn and had a good meal there too. The staff was very helpful giving us suggestions on restaurants, local attractions, and hiking trails. The inn is in a great location on the main street so it's easy to walk to the many shops and restaurants, but towards the one end of the town, so there's not a lot of foot traffic in front of the inn. The spacious wrap-around porch offers a nice spot to have morning coffee or evening cocktails. They did have to make some adjustments due to CoVid - not having the early morning muffins, etc., or the afternoon snacks, but that did not detract from the wonderful atmosphere and experience. We will definitely be back!

It was so wonderful to have you at the Inn for your special occasion! (Again, Happy Anniversary! :)) And thank you for this wonderful feedback. Our staff all take such pride in this special place and it means so much to all of us to hear of our guests enjoying their stay. Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back. (And yes... we too miss the special snacks...we're working on some sort of "plan B"!Thank you for the understanding in these strange times...)

My first trip to Wolfboro proved to be a great mini-vacation with my sister. Our stay at the Pickering House Inn was fabulous and everything was top notch. The Cookes have done an amazing job with restoration of the house and certainly did not leave anything out. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable and capable. The owners Peter & Patty Cooke and very friendly and want to know your thoughts and value your feedback. From the heated floors in the bathroom, spacious bedroom, everything in the inn is clean, safe, and comfortable. Especially with COVID-19 still lingering on, we felt very safe and comfortable staying at the inn. Chef Jonathan cooks a wonderful breakfast each morning. The inn is centrally located to the downtown area, nearby restaurants to have lunch or dinner, nearby to walking trails, and fantastic views of Lake Wentworth and Lake Winnipesaukee. The one rainy day we had we sat in the Library by the fireplace sipping coffee, water, and tea. I highly recommend the Pickering Inn and know that you won't be disappointed!

We're so glad to hear how much you enjoyed your stay! Even with the "one rainy day"... it sounds like you enjoyed all the Inn and Wolfeboro has to offer. (Taking time to just sit by the fireplaces with a good book is the best!) We look forward to welcoming you both back on your next visit to New Hampshire... :)

This inn is tastefully decorated, warm, and ideally located. The bedding was very comfortable and all the amenities and features in the room were well-thought out, such as the large shower and double sinks which you don't often see at inns. The staff was welcoming and helpful. I enjoyed reading fireside in the library with tea and homemade cookies from the snack area. We plan to return in warmer weather.

We spent two nights at Pickering House. The inn has been recently renovated, a large and gracious structure decorated with an inoffensive Pottery Barn aesthetic. The location of the inn is on Main Street, which is a surprisingly busy street. This translated to traffic noise in our street facing room, as well as a disinclination to utilize the gorgeous porch, despite the pleasant weather. Our room was large and attractive and the shower control modern. We had an issue with the shower, which appeared not to have been cleaned recently. This was partially remedied upon notification. Other housekeeping items were overlooked, we were lacking an extra roll of toilet paper and had burnt out light bulbs. This is perhaps due to the inn lacking cohesive management. The staff was friendly but part-time help. Breakfast on our first morning was a fruit plate created without regard to ripeness or seasonality, granola and yogurt (my favorite course) and French toast with whipped cream and maple syrup. The next day, breakfast was repeated, with the exception that French toast was replaced by waffles, also with whipped cream and maple syrup. Odd, since the restaurant owned by Pickering House is outstanding. Unlike the B&Bs we have visited throughout the world, there was no attempt of a happy hour (which can be managed even with covid restrictions) that can introduce the inn owners to the guests and showcase the regional delights. There were, however, a plate of M&M cookies available, if that suits ones fancy.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It's always important to hear feedback though there are a few things written here that were a bit of a surprise to us. But to respond (as we also did during your stay as well); Yes; we are on Main Street in a lovely downtown. The building renovation included extensive insulating as well as replacement of all windows to create "soundproofing" as much as possible. The "front rooms" of the Inn are considered by many of our guest as "their favorite" but the nice thing about our size and eclectic design; there are many rooms (and locations) to choose from. The Porch... again, we often hear this is "one of the best things about the Inn (and the fun of "watching the world go by"). If it was a busier time of day... we are surprised you did not consider sitting in either the back garden patio (with fire pit) or even the front patio set back far from the street. There is no excuse for anything less that immaculate. We truly think this was a "first" that the housekeeping team missed cleaning the inner part of the drain of the shower. But again, as the situation was immediately addressed (and apologized for), we again apologize.. Of our staff... very few are "part time". And we will politely defend your comment of "cohesive management". We are a 10 room, boutique Inn that takes pride in both our staff and management team. We feel we provide a setting of comfort and hospitality not often found these days - though this did not meet your standards. And as you also had the opportunity to meet one of the owners, they too are engaged with “life at the Inn”. We wish you’d had the chance to read our web site (or even reach out to our staff) as far as a hosted "Happy Hour" at the Inn. This is not part of what we ever have envisioned for the Inn; instead, offering a small Spirits and Snacks menu, we find that our guests make wonderful friendships and conversations on their own - as they desire. In fact, over these first three years of being open, we now have seen many wonderful long term friendships made with some of our guests... many finding our “model" of engagement welcoming. We apologize if for some reason this was not what you expected in choosing to stay at our Inn. And last but not least... perhaps a shame that we did not chose to point this out but the "M & M cookies" were in fact a "special treat" for a few of our Brewster Academy families who were at the Inn during your stay. It has become a "tradition" that we periodically do this... and ironically, the same weekend of your stay, one of the "non Brewster" guests commented he loved the cookies! Thanks again for providing your review.

When you think about a B&B trip in New England you might envision mountain scenery, a crystal clear lake, comfortable accommodations, a cozy fire to curl up with a book, the aroma of coffee in the morning and creative cuisine.
The Pickering House checks all the boxes in a big way! Originally built in the early 1800’s the huge farmhouse has been completely rebuilt and remodeled in 2018.
Patty and Peter Cooke are hands on owners but have quite a capable staff that keep the place running.
Cameron, Wendy and Denise will make sure your stay is a memorable one!
Jonathan Hudak runs the kitchen and prepares inventive breakfasts that look like works of art!
Great dining is in walking distance of the hotel but the great news is that an onsite restaurant(right next door) is under construction and should open in November 2020. Jonathan will be in charge of that part of the business.
The Hotel has 10 rooms that are decorated in a combination of Yankee antique combined with modern convenience.
My wife and I opted for The Pickering Suite which is a little larger with an adjacent sitting room! The bathrooms are brand new with all the modern conveniences. We gave it to each other as an Anniversary gift!
You will not be disappointed!

This Inn has the WOW factor!
We spent 2 nights in Room 7 which is a large, modernly furnished room with double vanity & shower en-suite. The inn is beautifully decorated throughout and very comfortable.
On our first night we had dinner in The Pavilion and were not disappointed - fine dining at its best.
Breakfast each morning was served in the galley kitchen. A freshly cooked hot dish, either sweet or savoury (alternating days), was prepared to order by chef Andrew, and was both very tasty and filling.
The service at the inn is outstanding and in particular Andrea & Barbara could not have done more to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves.
Overall a wonderful stay and great experience. We would certainly return to this Inn if back in Wolfboro. Highly recommended.

My wife and I have travelled far and wide and The Pickering House Inn is hands down the finest B&B we have ever stayed in and Peter & Patty and their staff are great hosts.
The property itself has undergone an extensive reno designed and managed by Patty hersef. She is the real deal when it comes to design and construction! It’s original character has been maintained to minute detail while adding many modern conveniences. It is simply outstanding!
We stayed 3 nights in Room 2 which is on the main street in the front of the house. There is some traffic noise which starts during the morning “rush” hour and ends in the early evening but didn’t really bother us. The room was large with very comfy furniture and bed. The bathroom was also large with dual vanity and the best shower I have ever encountered on the road.
AND BTW, you have to eat at their restaurant next door, The Pavilion! Nothing less than gourmet!!!
So treat yourself to a very special experience! Stay at the Pickering House Inn!

We had high expectations for this B& B based on the stellar reviews. We were there for 3 nights when it wasn’t very busy. The place had been renovated and the inn and our room was beautiful, along with such nice amenities as Frette linens, Beekman shampoos, and a Brahms Mount blanket.
With the exception of Chris, who actually seemed to care about the guests, the staff was indifferent and disinterested. They could have been employed by a Hampton Inn off the highway. The gentleman who checked us in couldn’t get out of the room fast enough and went through all the electronic controls in a flash. Maybe he was reading a good novel and needed to get back it it. Each of the 3 nights we were there, the heat came on in the middle of the night, awakening us in sweat, and we were unable to decrease it any of the nights via the high tech thermostat.
Out of the 3 breakfasts, 2 were ok, but uninspired, premixed fruit, premade bacon, and either pancakes or waffles, and the 3rd one was a horrid casserole made with tough gritty pieces of old asparagus and ham, and lots of bread.
Were eggs unavailable? The coffee from the k cup maker was better than the one at breakfast.
We had checked off on our online reservation that we wanted to dine at Pavillion next door. The website didn’t link to the Resy system for Pavilion, so I called about a week ahead to make sure we would be able to dine there the night of our arrival. After 3 calls I finally spoke to a person, who had to, according to her, check with the restaurant to reserve for us. She came back with an unacceptable late evening time time slot, and after reminding her that were were staying at the Inn for 3 nights, she arranged a better dinner reservation time. It shouldn’t have to be that difficult, but it was.
Pavilion was a good dining experience, so glad we didn’t miss it.
We never saw the owners Peter and Patty on the premises. Other than Chris helping us one night with a dining suggestion, no one was there to be helpful as a concierge.
With the taxes and tip left for staff, our room was about $600./ night.
For that price, we expected a better experience. We travel a lot and this place just wasn’t all that.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. It is disappointing to us that you found so many things at our INN not meeting your expectations – but we believe it is important to listen, learn and also clarify. A few items of note: > We do in fact rotate days for our served breakfast; one day “sweet”, one day “savory”. Also, on our sideboard each morning, we have a buffet alternate that each morning includes our House Made Granola, Greek Yogurt, Fresh Fruit (of the best ripeness available to us) and a baked item of either English muffins or bagels. In finding our served items not to your liking, we hope you were able to find at least something acceptable to eat. > We take great pride in our staff (and actually, we’re pretty sure the management and staff at the “Hampton Inns” do the best they can as well). While frustrating to all in this changing world, we are pleased we are not one of the so many properties, including many high end ones, who have stopped all housekeeping and guest services of any kind due to staffing issues. The inn was full the weekend of your stay and based on every other guests positive feedback from that weekend it would seem your experience was the exception. >Electronic Controls: If perhaps Michael explained them too quickly… there are very clear, written instructions of operation in each guest room. If that did not do the trick, staff is always available for a “refresher” explanation. >We’re certainly glad you enjoyed your dinner at PAVILION… And unfortunately, I need to address your comment of “We never saw the owners Peter and Patty on the premises”. While we are – and have always been - very much involved in every piece of the Inn and it’s operations, we are not always on site. We love how many guests we do get to meet (which is most)… however, the specific weekend you were here, we were dealing with the unexpected death of Peter’s brother. A shame such quick judgement was made.

Just returned from a five night stay at Pickering House Inn. This Inn is one of the top five places that I have ever stayed. I've stayed at the Ritz, Four Seasons, St. Regis, and many other B&B's. Room was large, well appointed keeping with the charm of the original building but with modern bathroom, lighting, etc. The Inn is beautifully and tastefully decorated. Had a chance to meet the owners Patty and Peter after dinner one night and here the story of how this historic building almost became a Dollar store. Delightful couple. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and you could tell they loved their job. Jerome was the chef who made breakfast every morning. Food was delicious and plentiful. Homemade granola, yogurt from a local farm, eggs, bacon, sausauge, english muffins, breads etc. all locally sourced. Located downtown Wolfeboro within a few blocks of the town docks and park. Highly recommend Pickering House Inn.

Celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary and created fond memories at this very special and lovely Inn. Everything about the stay was wonderful! Our immaculate, bright, and beautifully decorated room was perfect! We enjoyed all the special features including heated bathroom floors, high-tech shower, incredibly comfortable beds and luxury linens. This inn and the attached Barn has been impeccably remodeled with gorgeous decor and thoughtful details throughout. There are so many places to go to just sit and relax, including a wrap around porch, the perfect place to read and enjoy an afternoon cheese tray and a glass of wine. Full delicious breakfasts are served in the warm and inviting meeting area. And at night we enjoyed sitting around the fire pit, meeting and chatting with other guests,
Communication was exceptional and owners Patty and Peter, and Barb and Andrea at guest relations, couldn’t have been more attentive and gracious. They gave great suggestions on places to see and eat in quaint Wolfboro. The Inn is within walking distance to downtown shopping, boat tours, restaurants, and close to a couple golf courses. And we had a delicious meal at the Pavilion restaurant right next to the Inn.
Only regret was having to leave this incredibly warm and inviting location! We look forward to returning soon! Highly recommend staying here and it has become one of our new favorite resorts. It is truly deserving of the high ratings and accolades.
