Detailed Reviews
We stayed here prior to a procedure at the Concord Hospital -- this hotel is extremely convenient to it and offers special hospital rates. Our room was large, comfortable, clean, and sympathetically updated, with historic character and modern features. The staff was friendly and helpful. A very nice, relaxing stay overall.

There are lots of good reasons to try The Centennial Hotel including it's convenient location to downtown Concord, the generous size rooms, friendly staff, free parking, and charming atmosphere.
However, there are also lots of little extra touches that make this hotel stand out. Those details include guest bathrobes, fresh cookies in the evening and extra hygiene items in the bathrooms. We needed a park pass printed and the desk clerk was happy to do that for us.
The breakfast is pretty standard.
Be sure to take a walk around the surrounding neighborhood to see some beautiful, old homes.

We had a Superior King room which was generous in size. The bed was very comfortable. The nice continental breakfast had bagels, English muffins, sweet rolls, cereal, yogurt, and a bowl with apples and bananas. Coffee and tea was available until 11AM. Unfortunately the parking lot was not plowed. Someone had shoveled a small path but the lot was snow covered and at points icy. This review would have been 5 star if the parking lot had been plowed. Also note WiFi and breakfast aren’t free. There is a nominal daily charge plus tax for these services. WiFi and breakfast were fine but I wish the daily fee was part of the room rate. A charming hotel. Good location. Has elevator which you access from the building back. Will stay here again.

We had high expectations for our stay at the Centennial based on the fantastic photos the hotel presents (fabricates?) on its website; however, we were extremely disappointed with our experience. Upon checking into our room, the entire bathroom door came off in my arms, hinge and all. The wall revealed it had been patched over and over. We asked to switch rooms and were told they were booked solid and could not do that. When we learned that they were sending maintenance to yet again wood fill the holes on the door, my husband paid a visit to the desk and asked to see a manager. There was no manager on premise, so he spoke to the HR person. She authorized a switch to the room next door. This new room's toilet wouldn't flush, so once again, maintenance was sent with a plunger which worked; however, the bathroom had this urine smell to it which we suspect was sewer gas. The floor behind the toilet had a huge rust stain around the piping. The entire room was dated - the carpets were stained, cobwebs were visible in the corners of the ceiling. It just left a feeling of "Don't touch anything." The carpets in the hallways of the hotel were severely wrinkled and stained. Some of the ceiling tiles in the hall looked like they were filled with water. It was just a gross ambience. The other annoying problem we had was each time we left the room and came back, the key wouldn't work. We had to visit the desk 3 times to ask the receptionist to rekey the key so we could enter our room. My husband asked if the manager would call us after the second time it happened and we never got a call. This place is so poorly managed and needs a serious update. When we checked out, nobody asked how our stay was. The receptionist just processed our credit card. Today, being the day after we checked out, I receive an email with a subject line "Thank You For Visiting." The entire body of the email explains that checkin is anytime after 3. It describes their on-site restaurant and that they look forward to welcoming us to Concord, NH. What the what????? This place needs some serious training in hospitality. My advice...stay elsewhere where the staff cares that you're spending $300 plus a night and is eager to ensure the value of your money meets your expectations. The Centennial is not the place!!

First the positives: an interesting building from the outside; a large car park; not too far from the centre of Concord (easily walkable, but uphill on the way back); a nice bar and restaurant area. The barman was friendly and welcoming. The meal we had was very nice.
The downsides were the room and the charging to our room.
We had a corner room on the ground floor (but fortunately not next to or above the bar/restaurant area - see the comments from reviewers!) so location was fine, but the double bed was wedged in the corner, so one of us had to climb over the bed to get in; the windows were not working - painted shut or 'self-closing' as they were heavy sash windows - apart from the bathroom window; the bathroom was freezing cold in the morning and the toilet and basin etc were dated; in fact everything in the room was dated.
Checkout on 18 October 24: we were told everything was on our credit card (as we had paid upfront for the reservation) so there was nothing to settle and they would send us the bill on email. But as we had eaten a meal in the restaurant the night before I asked how much the meal was - $186 - so I said 'fine' and we left.
When I checked my credit card statement later that day, the cost seemed high and I found that I had been charged exactly 2 times for the meal. I phoned, but no pick up. I emailed the hotel asking for a refund. I was told that the manager would look into it (it was an obvious error - we were there for one night and there were 2 charges for the restaurant of exactly the same figure!). Nothing happened. I chased them again and again and a week later, on 24 October, I got the refund I was owed. Not impressive.

Not at all what they promote on their website. I recently spent 3 uncomfortable nights. The first night, despite their being very few guests, I was placed in a very small and noisy room on the first floor with a very cold draft in the bathroom. It was located right next to the restaurant and the front desk - the type of room typically reserved for an overflowing hotel with a 3am arrival. At my request, I was moved the next day to another room which was located by the landing to the second story. Again, noisy. Strange room with entrance door located directly across from the toilet, poor quality furnishings, windows all stuck and leaking cold air from outside. Poor quality toiletries that were partially filled. No water, no refrigerator, no slippers. Closet has no door nor curtain. Breakfast buffet requires travelling to the front desk for hot beverages. Only styrofoam cups are available. Someone named Benjamin texts you the second day but nobody in person demonstrated typical hotel hospitality: front desk staff don't greet you and don't inquire about your stay. When checking out, another patron reported that she had spilled coffee in her room and was instructed to go to the housekeeping department in the basement. There is also no business service center on site - i.e. no computer or printer available.
Room was $200 per night with tax and 15 dollar per night resort fee that covers water (which I didn't receive) and parking per front desk. I was told there could be no adjustment to my bill because the booking was not through their website (I hadn't asked for an adjustment).
Summary: Very pleasant architecture from the outside. Accommodations inside were worse than a poor quality one star chain hotel.

We stayed at the Centennial for one night while visiting family in the area. It seemed like the best choice out of the local options, which were mostly chain and budget hotels. The Centennial was definitely interesting - it's in a historic mansion that was built as a home for Civil War widows, so it has lots of vintage touches and guest rooms of varied shapes and sizes.
The best part about our two queen room was that it was huge. There was a round dining table with four chairs on one side of the beds, and a comfortable upholstered chair and ottoman on the other. The decor was bland and rather dated, but the room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was quite small and we had some trouble with the sink draining very slowly. We were told there was no way it could be serviced in time for us since we were only there for one night.
The restaurant and bar were closed on the night of our stay but we did sit there in the morning while having the complimentary continental breakfast, which was fine but basic. The staff was friendly and the location is good, with downtown Concord within walking distance.
My. main complaint about the Centennial Hotel is that the nightly rate while we were there was way out of line for what I think our stay was worth. I realize that hotels use some sort of algorithm based on demand, but it was tough to be charged luxury hotel prices for something that was definitely not a luxury hotel.

I say sad, because this hotel is situated in a beautiful, historic building worthy of preservation, and the employees are as cheerful, kind and accommodating as they can be under the circumstances. We especially appreciated Liz, who went all out to try and make us comfortable and did so with a great deal of patience. The circumstances, however, are that the rooms are woefully deteriorated. The room we had reserved had no heat whatsoever, and the King Turret room, to which we were moved, had wide gaps in the doors and windows that let in the cold air and broken lights on each of the two nightstands. The floor in the room we finally landed in was filthy, the pillows were substandard, and there was barely room to put anything on the bathroom vanity. One problem is the huge investment needed to renovate such an old building. Another problem is the severe shortage of workers in NH, meaning the hotel must run on short staff. Even the lobby desk was sometimes left totally unattended. I wish this hotel the best. It is an asset to Concord and should be recognized as such.

The Centennial was not nearly as nice as the photos on their website make it out to be. The place has huge potential as it is a great old building, however it needs an overhaul & updating. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient. The first room they gave us was ground level, handicap accessible. It felt cold & outdated so we were moved to a different room on a higher floor. First step into the door all we could see was the massive stain on the dirty carpet. The room & bathroom felt outdated and in need of a major refresh. There was no hair dryer in the room & when we called the front desk to ask for one, they insisted there was one in the bathroom, there was not. However, they promptly delivered one. I'm glad we only stayed one night as the room did not feel welcoming and it seemed like it needed a deep clean and it definitely needed at a minimum new carpet. The bar & restaurant were both closed. Overall, it was a disappointment but could be an amazing property. The location near downtown is a positive though. If it gets an interior renovation we would stay there again, until then we will stay elsewhere.

If this is the number one hotel in Concord then there is plenty of room for improvement. Floors dirty upon check in, including long hair all over the bathroom floor. Had to wear ear plugs every night due to banging noises in the walls and ceiling.
The low light was calling down to the desk one evening, as we needed a toiletry. Nobody picks up for ages, so we walked down and there was a sign with the same phone number that had gone unanswered. Not a soul in the place. Lights were off in the restaurant, no one at desk, no security or housekeeping in the building. Literally called out "Hello?" in the lobby, and nothing. This was around 8 PM or so. Went out front door to see if staff was on break and also nothing. Service was literally non-existent.
