We were in town for the kickoff to Hot August Nights and had the pleasure of staying at Edith Palmer's Country Inn and found the entire experience to be very personable and pleasant. The proprietors provided us with a warm and welcoming experience. Each morning we were treated to hot coffee, a full continental breakfast, and wonderful conversation with Leisa about the local activities, history, and attractions. We stayed in Edith's room and found the beautiful period antique furnishings combined with the comfortable bed to provide for a wonderful stay.

Positives- we stayed in the Evelyn room. The room is small but cute. Suited us fine. We showed up after hours and were able to contact the owner and find our room easily. Location is fine, and the Cider Factory restaurant is literally outside the door. We had breakfast and dinner there on the patio and it was lovely. Negatives- Toiletries are not provided. There are bath salts, but no shampoo, and the soap was sitting out and looked like it had been there for a while. Who knows how many people have used that bar. Luckily we brought our own. Hair dryer and iron for clothes are not provided either. I know this isn't a hotel, but at 150 a night I would expect the minimum available in the room. Breakfast is from 8-10, and upon entering the dining room we found not a breakfast, but some granola bars, some oranges and apples, and some wrapped cinnamon rolls. Not quite my idea of a breakfast that I’m accustomed to at a bed and breakfast. The owner said that they got “kicked out” of the kitchen by the Cider Factory, so they can no longer cook. We ended up at the cider factory, but had to pay for breakfast- something that I had factored into the price of the room already! I had read a review that the owner was extremely knowledgeable about the area and gave lots of great suggestions. When I asked her, she said she didn’t really know, as she doesn’t get to town much. She said that she should start asking people what they like. There were games in the parlor, but they lock the parlor after breakfast, so we took some games with us for the evening just in case we wanted to play. I would return to Virginia city, as there is actually a lot to do here and a neat town, but I would stay somewhere else.

We stayed in a top floor room in the old building, our view looked out over the valley. Great room, good size, nicely appointed - appropriate for the city. It's a nice location away from the busy downtown strip, but you can walk there in just a few minutes. There is a restaurant next door, it can be busy and you might want to make a reservation if you want to eat there. Price was reasonable, bed was comfy, check in was great, check out was easy - we had a wonderful stay.

My hubby and I really enjoy staying at BnB’s for the ambiance, the usually great architecture and great breakfast. So, first the “pros” of Edith Palmers Country Inn. It was quiet and clean. The inside well-cared for in a lovely location that overlooked the town of Virginia City. The cons, however, include no hair dryer (!), a tv that was smaller than most all computer screens, one small garbage can in bathroom only, no coffee pot, no ‘frig, and only a few plates of Costco pastries and fruit for breakfast. Some of this is my fault. I should have paid greater attention to the description. We have never stayed somewhere that didn’t have almost all these amenities Edith’s lacked. And for the nightly price, it should have! The innkeeper was really rather odd. When I discovered no hair dryer, I went back over to her “office” and asked if she might have one. She said she’d look and also ask her son if there was one I could use. A couple hours later I passed her with a couple checking in who, oddly whispered “Are you staying here with her? She’s crazy!” She asked me if I was checking in 😳. I asked her if she’d found a hair dryer yet and she said not yet. We figured we were hosed so jumped in the car and went to Carson City Walmart. Bought a keurig-type coffee maker, hair dryer, batteries for the remote and snacks. Never had this experience before! Never hope to again!

We recently stayed for two nights. We actually live within 10 miles but have stayed at Edith’s 3 times now because it allows us to move about easily during those wonderful (but crowded) weekend events. AND, Edith’s offers a quiet, friendly, gentle getaway feel. We have always enjoyed the knowledge and lore shared by Leisa and her son. All the rooms have their own special touches, always cozy, pretty , clean and comfortable. Staying at Edith’s makes the Virginia city experience feel like so much more than a typical tourist town. However, We were very disappointed this March 2019 visit that the Lovely full and unique warm breakfast, served in a charming setting, is no longer available. There is now tiny store bought pastries, coffee and fruit available in a side room off the office. The description still speaks of the full breakfast and we were not informed of this change, when booking. I would have appreciated a coffee pot in the room, so we could have a cup of coffee as we got ready to go find breakfast. The breakfast had been one of several things that makes this place so special. Oh well!

We stayed at the Inn this past weekend. Although we did not have any issues; we did witness the owner and her son become very belligerent to a guest when he came into the Cider Factory (where breakfast is served) to report that his room did not have hot water or heat. The son (also the cook) started yelling at this man for no reason. He told the man that it was not his problem, that he should have known there was no hot water/heat and that he needed to leave the premises. The owner than came in and she joined in with her son, telling the customer he should have known last night there was no hot water. When the customer said he didn't use any, she quickly said "didn't you wash your hands and face?" When he said he washed but not with hot water, she said, "well you should have". He asked for a refund and she told him that wasn't going to happen. The son called the police (which was a good thing for the customer). We left (without breakfast) and waited outside for the police to arrive to support the customer. He was completely right and the owner and her son were completely wrong. The son blew up so quickly for no reason. Very scary!! Although we really enjoyed Virginia City, we will NEVER stay in the Edith Palmer Country Inn again and recommend Buyer Beware!

Stayed here while visiting the Camel Races. It is a first class bed and breakfast. The rooms are nice. You are on the edge of town and it is quite quiet although only a five minute walk to town. The breakfast is outstanding and it last all day. It was really good. There is also a little restaurant which operates a few days a week. It seems to be some ladies who live in town and they run this place a few nights. The food is really terrific and I would not go anyplace else given the opportunity. Many of the places in town close early and there is not many places to eat later in the day (5pm). So, this is the place to go. You are going to get microwave food anywhere else. Here, Cider House, you are getting a first class home cooked meal. I thanked God they were open one of the two nights I stayed there. This B&B is highly recommended. Also note the Camel Races were quite family friendly fun. Everyone has a good time. Don't forget to see some of the other attractions such as the train ride, mine tour, old schoolhouse, etc. The B&B was quite charming. Glad I stayed there.

We booked here for our 30th. Anniversary last summer. There are two houses that have been refurbished and renewed in the period. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. It is pricey, but worth it for a special occasion. Dinner is served only on the weekends, so we missed that, but had a delicious breakfast in the dining room. It is decorated period, with photos of famous people who have visited there, including movie stars who have filmed in Virginia City. It is a short walk to downtown, down a slight grade. We will go back.

My stay here was OK. The property is attractive and very well maintained. It’s very easy to walk to and from town, and there is parking available if you are visiting during a special event. I had a nice enough stay, it was just missing some of the details that would bring it to 4 or 5 stars. These include: 1. I booked a small room, but had assumed there would be a common area where I could spend some time. There was not one. 2. There was no place to get a cup of tea in the afternoon or evening. There was no milk available, even in the morning (though there was cream). 3. The bedding was on the thin side. The heater worked well, so I wasn’t cold. But with the chilly weather outside, it would have been nice to curl up under a thick comforter. 4. There was no information about the inn or the town in the room. I would have appreciated some history and some suggested things to do or so in the room. 5. The breakfast was tasty, but the mini scones appeared to be store-bought rather than homemade.
