This is one of the nicest inns we have stayed at - and we have been traveling the world for 35+ years! We stayed in the Arrow Suite on the first floor of the lodge and the suite was huge. It included two sitting rooms along with the bathroom and bedroom. There was a large closet in the bedroom, as well as a storage closet for luggage. The views of the vineyard, Lake Hayes and the surrounding mountains were phenomenal. The staff were all wonderful and very helpful. Breakfast each morning was a feast with a continental of fresh fruit, juices, yogurt, cereals and fresh pastries. Then you can order a cooked breakfast with multiple options. Each afternoon they provide a cheese plate with crackers and fruit to your room along with wine from their vineyard. We didn’t want to leave!

Our experience at Stoneridge Estate for our wedding and reception was phenomenal. From the moment we stepped foot onto the grounds, we knew we had found the perfect place to say, "I do" and celebrate with our loved ones.
The venue's picturesque setting provided a breathtaking backdrop for our ceremony, while the quaint and cosy reception hall set the stage for an unforgettable evening. It helped that we chose to say our vows during autumn with its beautiful changing colours and our day was blessed with a gorgeous weather.
The staff at Stoneridge Estate were a joy to work with, accommodating our every need and ensuring that our vision for the day was brought to life. Their professionalism and attention to detail met our expectations and made us feel truly special on our big day. Our guests were equally impressed by the venue, satiated with the food, the stunning surroundings, and the overall ambiance of the event.
We are incredibly grateful to the team at Stoneridge Estate for making our wedding day indeed a memorable milestone of our lives. Their dedication and expertise created an experience that we will cherish for a lifetime. If you're looking for the perfect venue for your special day, this venue is highly recommended!
We had some sound system issues at the venue, but they provided a portable speaker, and everything else was phenomenal!

From start to finish the whole team was friendly and helpful. We made the most of an upgrade to The Retreat and it did not disappoint, for us it was luxury. We had the Milford room and wow, it was so big and comfortable. Spacious in every room, beautiful touches, luxury soap, everything you could want. The views were spectacular and we were close to the hot tub. Shruti showed us to our room and looked after us, she is so sweet bringing us our wine and cheese. The communal areas were immaculate! The breakfast at the lodge was incredible with so many amazing choices and great coffee! again the team here was lovely, efficient and kind can't thank you all enough

considerable expense for a honeymoon stay. The check in experience left something to be desired as we were simply showed to our room and not told about the various shared facilities and how to book/use them. The room was sized well and very comfortable and had a spectacular view. The bathroom has an excellent shower and bath and dual sinks but the toilet was quite close to the two sinks. There was a window directly above the bath and opposite the shower that provided a spectacular view out to the mountains and lake however the blind that they had installed was completely see through which was a bit disconcerting for the lack of privacy during a bath or shower. We decided to try the restaurant on the first night of the stay and chose to "trust the chef"menu with wine pairing. I have no way to know for sure but it seemed like they were using a mix of frozen, canned/jarred things and pre-prepared heated up things as well as some very good quality, fresh cuts of lamb and beef. There were some nice wines in the pairing as well as ok ones. I would be shocked if the meal was prepared by an actual chef and the first two courses were particularly bad as well as the desert with things coming out cold and luke warm in spots and completely overcooked and dry in others. The lovely server kept asking how everything was at every opportunity and neither of us had the heart to say anything as it was so bad we didn't really have any confidence that there would be some improvement and didn't want to make a scene. The next day at breakfast which was of a similar terrible standard with overcooked cold poached eggs and undercooked somehow dried out cold bacon and untoasted bagel slapped together it was too much and when the lovely server came over to ask how everything was we told her. They comped us a bottle of wine and gave the feedback to the kitchen and to their credit the breakfast quality improved the next two days. The infinity pool which was aesthetically gorgeous looking out over the lake and mountains was essentially unusable as it was the ambient temperature and so, too cold to practically swim in with no heating to speak of. The spa bath (which needed to be booked so they could turn the heating on) needed to have the cover manually winched up and the jets didn't work nor were any instructions provided. The daily cheese board and wine were very nice and well enjoyed. All in all it was a good stay with nice staff and unrivaled views but some disappointing aspects that can be improved.

Response from Wayne Gore, General Manager at Stoneridge Estate
Responded 9 Oct 2024
Hi Matt I'm glad that you enjoyed the room and views. I see that you are an avid reviewer on social media, having reviewed our property on multiple platforms. I think the important thing that can be seen from your review(s) – is, where seldomly there are shortcomings in a service at Stoneridge and when guests communicate their dis-satisfaction to us, we are quick to try and remedy/resolve the issue or compensate the guest. However, where guests communicate their satisfaction/enjoyment of a service, like you have, and then jump on their keyboard expressing a different view , - I’m at odds to know how to deal with this. After recent trip around the world, I never have I experienced a property where there they have not sought to remedy or compensate for a deficiency in their service/product. - You will enjoy your stays at property’s considerably more if you communicate honestly with them in future. Wayne General Manager From the team member that served you… Hi Wayne, I would also add in that we provide opportunities for guests to leave feedback, for example a feedback forms can be found in the black book provided in every room (his review states he took to Google because no opportunity to provide feedback). Also, at breakfast and turndowns, guests are asked if there is any else we can do for them. The review also mentioned that no one explained the facilities available at Stoneridge, but this again can be found in the room compendiums or if guests have questions phones are provided in all rooms where a staff member is on call. I would also highlight that we have processes in place to ensure customer satisfaction eg. Servers at breakfast will ask how customers are enjoying their stay, servers will also check on guests whilst eating to ensure satisfaction with food, staff will check in with customers when dropping off wine and cheese boards (ie “here is your cheese board is there anything else I can do for you”). Protocols are put in place by management to ensure if guests have a concern, question or issue, it can be raised and rectified. I was the server he's referring to and they both ate all their food during the D2 and I also checked on them during breakfast where they did make a complaint but I offered to get them a fresh breakfast which they declined, - when I spoke to the team regarding breakfast they told me to offer a complimentary bottle of wine which they accepted -so they did receive good customer care. Thanks, J

My husband I spent two nights in the cottage to celebrate a milestone birthday and also experienced the private dining menu prepared for us by the on-site chef. The accommodation is the best we have ever stayed in and the meal was of excellent quality. Highly recommend this venue if you are looking for a top end location with superb views over Lake Hayes and Coronet Peak snow fields in the distance.

Beautiful place with stunning views. We celebrated our honeymoon here, stayed two nights in a suite at the retreat and two nights in the cottage, the two very different but we enjoyed both. The private hot tub at the cottage was nice & hot, great temperature, loved it! Sadly we were disappointed with the “Trust the chef degustation” so can’t recommend it. The cooked breakfasts in the morning were delicious, great coffee too! There were some things during our stay that needed attention, one is definitely worth a mention to management, which we will kindly do in an email. Overall this was a lovely place to stay and we would consider returning again.

Let me start by saying I booked this hotel based on the 5 star rating and the reviews. The hotel is beautiful, our room was stunning with a gorgeous view of lake Hayes which was wonderful to walk around. The wine and cheese of an afternoon is a lovely thoughtful touch and the onsite hot pool also very welcome. There is no gym for those staying in a lodge room. The venue has a function area and the staff are sadly more focused on that than the guests we felt. For breakfast, you have to say what time you will be down removing any holiday spontaneity. One morning we said 8am and came down at 7.45 (breakfast served from 7.30) and nothing was out and no staff to be found. I booked the private dinner for my husband and I only to be told by the waitress that she was sorry service was really slow but she was managing a function!!!! Parking is a bit of a challenge, there are no designated car parking spaces and it’s daunting to manoeuvre around the small car park. The staff are pleasant and helpful when you get their attention. My husband tried calling reception twice for details on how to check out and no answer or call back. This place has the potential to be incredible with improved service and perhaps a Nespresso machine in the room.

We saw it on Facebook, the advertising were luxury 5 stars bed and breakfast were rated at 9.3 on booking. It’s totally a lie. The reception is hard to find, we had to go around many times to try to find it.
It cost us $820 per night for a family of 4, which you can find anywhere at Queenstown for that price and more comfortable stay, don’t be fooled by their photos! Children are $75 per child +GST which is $172 per night ,They also charged 4% on credit cards, other hotels charge 2% on top. I been to The Rees, Kamana lakehouse, Hilton, Millbrook queenstown are way better than this place.
At the afternoon there weren’t any staff in the house. The waitress we saw weren’t friendly. I ask if we can use a 2 seats dinning table to eat, she weren’t happy, and ask if I can use the couches and eat at the tea table, because the dinning table is set for “tomorrow’s breakfast’. Cheese broad were send in the room, fruit weren’t wash, I can see the dirt on the strawberries. The bed were far away from what they advised as 5 stars luxury bed. On master room are small, it’s like a bed room at anyone’s house, bed is hard,I woke up 3 times at night, one pillow is thin, one is hard like stone, sheets are old, duvet cover are dated. In the additional room, the bed are old and wobbly, duvet are old,I don’t think they still sale it any more.
It’s just the worst you can get with your money. It’s very doubtful about those good reviews, this property is like a holiday house with great views, which it’s mostly the selling point in Queenstown.

Response from Emily Brown, Guest Services / Front Office at Stoneridge Estate
Responded 6 Jan 2021
Thank you for your review, and for that of your family member below. We are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay with us. While the majority of our guests are very complimentary of our rooms and service, as you will see from the many five-star reviews that we have received, we are very sorry if the property was not to your taste, or if the service that you received on the night that you stayed with us was not up to the excellent standard that we strive to provide for all of our guests. We would firstly like to reassure you that while it seems that you feel that we have written our own ratings on Booking.com and TripAdvisor, this is fortunately not the case. Many of our past guests have taken the time to write these lovely reviews themselves based on their own positive experiences here at Stoneridge, and our Qualmark ‘five star’ rating that we advertise is based on a lengthy annual assessment by a qualified hotel inspector. When you advised our General Manager after your first night that you wished to leave early, he did ask at this time what the reason was and if there was anything that we could do to improve your stay. You advised that you were not feeling well and had not slept well, and that due to the poor weather forecast for the upcoming days, you wished to cancel your remaining two nights with us. At this time, we offered to waive our standard cancellation penalty and issue a full refund for the two remaining nights, which you accepted. While we appreciate that you were disappointed that the 33% discount for the ‘Stay 3, Pay 2’ package that you originally booked did not apply to your single night stay, we ask you to understand that this discount does only apply for a minimum three-night stay, as we outline in the package terms and conditions. Had you made us aware at any point during your stay or prior to checking out that you were not enjoying your time at Stoneridge, we would have endeavoured to improve the quality of your stay or come to some arrangement so that you did not leave disappointed, as the comfort and enjoyment of our guests is absolutely our top priority. I can reassure you that the property is staffed at all times throughout the day, and our General Manager was available for the duration of your stay and indeed met you when you arrived to direct you to the Lodge, where a member of staff then checked you in. Although you arrived an hour prior to our advertised check-in time, we opted to waive any early check-in fee. Guests are also invited to call reception at any time from the in-room phone if they have any requests or questions. We are very sorry that you did not sleep well in our Coronet Suite, and I have discussed your comments with our General Manager at length. This is one of our most popular suites, and it is the first time that we have ever received feedback that the bed is uncomfortable. We do have a detailed description of the room and its facilities on our website, along with photographs that show all aspects of the room including the size. The bedroom in which your children stayed is advertised as being a smaller second bedroom, and while it is furnished less luxuriously than the master bedroom, this is reflected in the price that you paid ($75 + GST per child per night, including breakfast). All of our bedlinen is Egyptian cotton and has been recently purchased, and we have a range of goose down pillows on our Pillow Menu including soft, medium & firm options, with spare pillows available in the wardrobe. The decorative furnishings (throw and cushions) are traditional in style to match the look & feel of the lodge. As we are a boutique lodge with a small number of guest rooms, the service and facilities that we offer are quite different from those of Queenstown’s large hotels such as The Rees, The Hilton and Millbrook. Our 4% surcharge for credit card payments on check-out is noted in our booking terms and conditions, and is reflective of the charge that we ourselves incur with our payment provider. Should you prefer to avoid this, we also offer the option to pay by direct transfer or cash. We also advise on our website and in our booking terms and conditions that there are no self-catering facilities in the lodge. The dining room is available for breakfast and for guests who book private dining with us, and is usually closed in the evenings. As we had already set the dining table for breakfast the following morning, when you requested a place to eat the food that you had brought in with you, our lodge hostess Shruti politely asked that you instead eat in the lounge. I have spoken with her and she is dismayed to hear that you were disappointed with this and that you felt she was unfriendly - she prides herself on going the extra mile for guests and she apologises if there was any miscommunication here. Our complimentary cheeseboards are made fresh daily by our breakfast hosts and all fruit is washed prior to being served, but on this occasion it appears that it may not have been washed thoroughly enough for which we sincerely apologise. Regretfully we were unaware of this or we would have been more than happy to re-make a fresh cheeseboard for you. We thank you again for your valuable feedback, and we would love to have the opportunity to welcome you back to Stoneridge to change your mind about our property. Please feel welcome to reach out to me at enquiries@stoneridge.co.nz if you would like to discuss this any further.

Our wedding ceremony and reception were held at Stoneridge Estate on the 21st of March 2020. From the point of first contact to collecting the floral arrangements the day after the event, the service we received from the Stoneridge staff was nothing less than exceptional.
The venue itself is stunning, we chose to hold our ceremony in the chapel gardens, though due to a bit of inclement weather we also got to use the chapel for part of the ceremony. The great thing about this venue is that no matter what, rain or shine it just feels magical. The addition of the rain actually made things more fun and this was certainly captured in the photographs and video.
Pretty much all the arrangements were made by e-mail apart form a quick visit a few months before whilst we were on holiday. Suzanne and Emily were great throughout, all we had to was ask and they made it happen. We couldn't have felt more secure in their very professional hands.
Every supplier Stoneridge used also delivered exceptional service. The florist in particular produced the most beautiful arrangements we could have imagined based on a photograph of the groomsmaids dresses and a description of what we would be wearing, I honestly think she might have been psychic. Our Photographer and videographer (Miles Holden and Philip Puckey) worked brilliantly together and have given us memories that will last a lifetime.
The reception venue really made our experience perfect, it has real character with its stone floors, wooden beams and roaring open fire. The quality of the catering was second to none, every meal was perfectly cooked and presented. I had several comments from seasoned wedding guests telling me this was the best wedding catering they had ever experienced.
We chose a DJ for our evenings entertainment, Emily assured me he was great at reading the room and he did just that, the dance floor was full all night.
I could go on typing all day about how much we enjoyed the experience of Stoneridge Estate. When we started planning our wedding I was the one who wanted to put the breaks on and keep things to a tight budget and low key (call me the Grinch). My husband managed to persuade we otherwise, you only do this once in a lifetime after all. I'm very glad he did, I can't think of a more perfect, more magical way to have spent our special day.
Thank you once again to all the staff at Stoneridge Estate, your professionalism and warmth helped to make our big day everything we could have ever dreamed of.
Stephen and Eric
