Took the family for their dream holiday to an American Ranch to enjoy the true western riding experience in Montana. WOW words can’t describe how much this place touched our souls in so many ways, you have to live it to believe it, this Ranch made us feel like we were part of their family, fed us like we were kings and queens, our rooms were AMAZING with handmade beds, best nights sleep ever and they made sure every second counted that we were happy and enjoying the horses to every level possible. We learnt so many amazing horsemanship skills, all so kind, clear and easy to follow. The knowledge this family have is truly a gift to everyone if you can get here to experience and learn from them. The horses, WOW they are all so wonderful, super loved and cared for, and take you on the most wonderful rides, gorgeous scenery and it’s just purely the DREAM come true staying at this Ranch....
We wish with all our hearts to come back again and again to be part of what truly filled our hearts with so much happiness over the three most special days we had with them.....🐴🥰

I have been dreaming about a dude ranch vacation since I was a little girl. This ranch exceeded all my expectations! The family is wonderful and took every opportunity to make our stay as amazing as possible. The rooms were super comfortable and I slept better than I do at home! My sister and I have dietary restrictions and they were always happy to give us other options if we didn’t eat what was originally served. All their staff are knowledgeable and super helpful. The horses are unbelievable! You get the opportunity to do ground work as well as riding and it’s like nothing you will experience anywhere else! I would like to add that even though I am an experienced rider, they took every precaution to make sure EVERY RIDER was as safe as possible. Horses are living creatures and sometimes things can happen, but this ranch helps out in every way to make everyone feel safe and comfortable. I would recommend this ranch to anyone who wants to have a life changing adventure! I hope I can go again soon!!

The riding was outstanding. The Wirth family went out of their way to accommodate guests requests. They arranged for extra wranglers to insure we were able to go for all day picnic ride on a slightly shorter lope. The meals were excellent served family style and always plenty.Rooms are tastefully decorated and very comfortable. This was our second time here and loved meeting the growing families of Zack and Patty's children. The grandchildren were precious. Maria let guests a choice to drive a pair of work horses. Amazing opportunity!

My horse was wonderful and the girls provided a lot of information. The week was full of activities. It is very rustic and all of the furniture and adornments that Zach has built were beautiful and sturdy. The bathroom was very dated with a build up of grime in the tile, stains around the sink and tubs. The main lodge was the most cluttered and dirty of any ranch I have been to. It reeked from the kitchen. The food was hit and miss. The last couple of days there weren’t enough eggs although the staff and movie crew had them I did not. Patty is a wealth of knowledge but both my husband and I thought being lectured about the Icelandic horse (our country, our horse) a bit much. Also critical when I showed her a video of the best experience I had on a horse with equine therapy. They allowed our friends to come visit and eat one night. There was a great deal of talk about finances and Patty made sure to remind me on checkout that our 2 friends were there. I did not eat 2 nights and when my friends brought their bathing suits to use the hot tub, I told them no. Was afraid of being charged. Patty also told me they generally expect a tip of 15-20 percent. I guess it didn’t matter that they were short handed and we helped round up the herd in the mornings and feed except the last evening because I didn’t want to pack hay. The washer and dryer are the same ones they use for all of the ranch I think. Some of our clothes ended up stained and still with remnants of hay. We loved our co-guests and had a great deal of fun with them. That was a wonderful experience. It was interesting for us to talk to both Zach and Patty regardless of everything. Just way too expensive and no jovial evenings in the great room like we envisioned from the YouTube video. It would have been fun also to have S’mores like other ranches I have been to. We were acutely aware of other distractions that may have hampered any evening activities. Lastly, the girls that guided us on our rides were inconsistent. One guest was so irritated with everything, he left after 2 days, still paid the full price. He told our hosts it was work related but not what he was relaying to us and was very unhappy with his horse. Ultimately, the horses and other guests made the experience wonderful. Maria and Julia were great guides. The rest uncomfortable and too expensive. As a side note, there was a movie crew filming and they were very friendly and seemed more concerned about our experience.

I can’t recommend the Rocking Z high enough. My stay was beyond perfect- high quality, well trained and responsive horses; wonderful trail rides and vistas; eye-opening lessons in natural horsemanship from two of the most knowledgeable horsewomen I’ve ever met; funny, responsible and engaging wranglers; the funniest trio of cattle dogs you’ll ever meet and the sense of being welcomed into a large family. This is not Disneyland. This is not for show. Visiting the Rocking Z felt like you were coming home. If you were lucky enough to call this family and land home. Get Maria to play some music for you! And ask Zach for history lessons!

If it were possible to give a 5 Stars Plus review for the Rocking Z Guest Ranch we would!! We loved every single minute of our visit! The staff is absolutely amazing & the family who owns and operates it make you feel like part of their family!
From the moment you arrive, you are greeted with open arms! The food (3 full meals a day) was fantastic - and they make sure to know of any dietary restrictions before the week begins. With the dining area being set up with 3 beautiful (family made) wooden tables, each seating 8 people, you eat family style for every meal. Nobody has assigned seats, so you can move around for each meal and get to know more of the employees and guests! We looked forward to every meal conversation and made many new friends! When Zack or Patty sat with you, you knew that you would be hearing about more of the amazing history of their ranch and the surrounding area!
When we arrived, we were getting unpacked (in our spacious, western decorated room), when Patty came to our door and told us that if we were interested in joining the group that was going to the Rodeo in Augusta, that we just needed to grab a hat and come on down to the white van! We were so excited to have something special to do so quickly after our arrival! With that ride we met 3 other guests, 2 employees & two of Zack & Patty's granddaughters. Zack was our driver, and he told us so many interesting facts on our way, AND they continued throughout the rodeo! We had a wonderful afternoon!!
After breakfast on Monday, we met the horses after a group meeting with Anna (Zack & Patty's daughter), who found out our individual histories with horseback riding and our hopes and goals for the week!! We found out quickly that no matter your level of riding skill, they had the Perfect horse and instructor for you! Each day included opportunities to increase your skill level through activities with your horse ((ex. obstacle course, arena activities, trail rides & caring directly for your horses (grooming, saddling, washing)).
Lastly, we just can't express in words how magnificent the scenic views were all around the ranch and trails! We will Definitely plan to return in the future! Mark & Deb Morich

We just finished an amazing birthday trip for my daughter at the Rocking Z ranch & had used the reviews here to choose this destination, so we felt compelled to leave our own review. We travel quite a bit, and this trip was like none other than we have experienced. From the moment you get to the ranch the family makes you feel at home, you get settled in your room (which we found to be spacious, clean, & incredibly comfortable) and then got straight away to some horsemanship training. It’s clear that the horses here are well loved, & everyone makes sure you are comfortable with them and gives you so many tools to communicate with them before the actual riding begins. The rides are varied, with attention to your ability level, and it doesn’t stop there with some of the most fun we had being in the arena learning how to herd cattle or try our hand at riding bareback. Meals are fresh, family style, and delicious. You really get to know the entire family, staff, and other guests, and we made fast friends with all of them. In addition there are gorgeous quick hikes for the most beautiful sunset views, as well as a quick trip to the nearby creek to cool off on one afternoon. Not to mention the coolest ranch dogs who were beyond entertaining, just living their best ranch dog life, & the cutest kittens that our daughter just couldn’t get enough of. Also ditto on Maria singing & playing the guitar. So fun. We can’t recommend the Rocking Z enough & look forward to bringing the entire family back out!

My grandson and I just returned from an awesome week at the Rocking Z. I suppose that I'm most impressed by how the staff really made an effort to customize the experience to every guest's skill level and preferences. Maria, Julia and Justy were each expert instructors and I went from "Just don't fall off!" to being able to safely control and enjoy riding the horses. The hills and streams around the ranch are beautiful and seemed like they went on forever. Also, Patty and Zach are very hospitable and welcomed us into their extended family. My teenage grandson told me on the way home that he "already missed the ranch". We'll be back!!

Rocking Z Ranch was everything I hoped for in a ranch holiday. Zack and Patty and their family have created a wonderful experience that made us feel like we were welcomed into a family, rather than guests at the lodge.
The wranglers and interns were amazing- so knowledgeable about the horses and they worked really hard to care for them and make sure we all got to experience the things we wanted from our holidays.
The horses (and gorgeous Lizzie the mule) were beautifully trained and there were options for all levels of riders. The trail rides into the surrounding countryside were stunning and the options at the ranch- from cow work to liberty and many more gave us a really varied and interesting experience. The Friday night trip to the rodeo was a fantastic bonus and a great night out!
I would highly recommend this trip and am already making plans to return next year.

My mom and I went to Rocking Z Ranch for my graduation trip and to say that it exceeded our expectations would be an understatement! The rides were fun, the staff was friendly, and the horses were incredibly well trained! I can’t imagine staying anywhere else. We had such an incredible time and we can’t wait to come again. If I could give 6 stars out of 5 I would! You will undoubtedly enjoy your stay here!
