My husband and I just returned from a ski trip in Yellowstone. We chose to tour the park on our skis towing sleds for just over 100 miles. We spent a lot of time on the groomed roads and one of the outfitters that stood out from the rest was Yellowstone Expeditions. Both the drivers/guides and the clients were pleasant and enthusiastic and also attentive to our presence on the roads.

As our miles started to stack up, we wondered to ourselves about the possibility of finding a lift out of the park between Old Faithful and our rig in West Yellowstone so we thought let’s call Yellowstone Expeditions!

Erica was SUPER helpful as was Masha and another young woman (whose name I didn’t catch!) in fitting us into their schedule on the final day of their clients trip which also coincided with the end of our trip.

When Arden pulled up alongside us on the road, it was perfect timing and also allowed us to share a ride out with some really great people. It was fun to share stories and feel so well supported by complete strangers who’d gone out of their way to give us a hand on a physically demanding adventure.

We would definitely recommend Yellowstone Expeditions based on their hospitality alone and will keep them in mind for future trips.

Thank you!!!

Put it on your bucket list. Seriously! We came with expectations to see magnificent Yellowstone and wildlife in it best. It is all here and fantastic. But in addition, we found hearty, friendly people that wanted to share unforgettable experience with you.
Here, in the middle of the park (one of few places) because of National Park stick restriction will save you 4 hours driving back and force from West Yellowstone. Knowledgeable guides will share with you places that otherwise stay unknown to most people visiting park.

The staff and guides at Yellowstone Expeditions Yurt Camp provided us with a magical insight into the beauty and raw nature of this gem of a National Park. We had an amazing long weekend with 12 of our closest friends as we explored pristine snow-covered fields, meadows, and hills with the informative and incredibly safe guidance provided by Yellowstone Expeditions. The guides and staff made us feel welcome as family, and pampered us in the harsh and beautiful conditions of this winter wonderland! A "must" for anyone who appreciates unspoiled nature at its finest!

After booking this trip I was both excited and little terrified because I had never done anything like this before. It was fantastic. The crew have thought through every single detail to make sure that every single person had fun, and fell in love with the park.

The crew are thoughtful, knowledgeable, kind, -and they were excellent in their help and guidance with me, who has never been on skiis or snowshoes. I left loving both activities and wanting more, more, more. The crew clearly love Yellowstone and want to share their love and insight with every visitor.

The camp is so clean and warm and comfortable, this Virginia girl had no reason to worry. The food was so very good, and they accommodated every allergy or dietary need. The camp even offers rustic showers and a sauna if you arr so inclined!

And the park. Beautiful. Breathtaking. Filled with life and wonder. Filled with magic and stories. Filled with glorious peace.

I showed my daughter my pictures and all she could talk about what how very happy I looked. I sure was! And I would go back tomorrow if I could.

This is the way Yellowstone should be experienced in the Winter. Arden, Nadia, Connie, and crew take care of all your backcountry XC-skiing needs including gourmet quality food, ski touring/route guiding, comfortable/warm Yurtlets and beds, and taking us to places ONLY accessible by skis. We saw bison, eagles, pristine valleys and views, otters, and a coyote even visited us where we were having our lunch in the backcountry. The guides are PROFESSIONAL and the service EXCEPTIONAL.

We spent four days and three nights at the Yurt Camp. The staff is excellent, the food is amazing, and the skiing is outstanding. Being able to ski over virgin snow without a hint of anyone else having been there made us feel special. The staff was attentive to our skiing ability to make sure the daily outings met our skill level. We had lunch during each day's outing.

Each day was different. One day skiing open areas, another day visiting thermal areas, and on the last day skiing through forests. The breakfasts and dinners were sumptuous. Even had homemade ice cream for our last evening's dessert.

If you like cross-country skiing, beautiful snowy scenery, and adventure, this is the place to be in winder.

Yellowstone in winter is special, the guides are great, the food is delicious, and the yurt camp is really comfortable. We cross-country skied in beautiful winter surroundings and saw numerous thermal features. The staff is extraordinary--very friendly and knowledgeable. This is a special place.

I wanted to get out into the winter wilderness. found the yurt camp online. went jan 1 2023 for 5 days with an old friend. it was the kind of trip that sticks with you after you get home. having the majestic beauty of yellowstone in winter all by yourself for 5 days is incredible. we cross country skied every day in sun and snow through one winter picture postcard after another. no people in sight. and as great as that was, the guides were the key to the warmth and joy of the trip. nadia, sage, aiden, bean, julie, and shamus were our guides. connie cooked and after dinner sang for us. after 11 seasons, she's sort of the unofficial mom of the village. we were together for breakfast, skiing, lunch, snacks by the fire, dinner, then stories every evening. by the end of the trip they felt to me like new friends, largely because they were so warm, caring and giving. when i got home i missed them and i missed yellowstone. i told my wife i wanted to go back. so 5 weeks later i did. for another 5 days. the guides were all there and my new traveling buddy loved the experience as much as I did.

in the end it is memories, family and friends that we are left with. i am so grateful to have had this experience. and I'll probably go back again.

as close as i got to the guides, it is erica who gets us all there with scheduling and information up front. she was so helpful and friendly. and not to forget arden, who 40 years ago conceived of the idea of a yurt camp for those who wanted to experience the beautiful isolation of a yellowstone winter with friends, and has built up the camp to what it is now - a perfect quiet village filled with joy and beauty. thanks arden. you the heart and soul of yellowstone and its many wild creatures.

I miss you all.

We came to Yellowstone Expeditions with a BIT of anxiety, having never skied while joining folks that have skied most of their lives. We love the outdoors, tent camping and kayaking whenever we can. So, when friends mentioned their experience of Yellowstone in the winter, we thought, why not. We couldn’t have been more impressed and pleased with our experience. In our five days, we met the finest people, both our guides and guests, as we gathered for meals and comradery. Scenery and animal sightings exceeded our expectations.

Every day we were challenged to improve our “skiing skills” while traveling through some of the most impressive backcountry Yellowstone has to offer. The positive encouragement each day to push our envelop, was rewarding when we actually made some recognizable advancement, though not without a few awkward falls and attempts to get up. Great memories all.

We’d like to give a shout out to our fantastic guides Nadia camp leader, Piper, Risa, Sage, Julie and Connie, our camp chef. Thanks for a most memorable visit, Jim & Wilma.

I actually went on a whim for the first time last February with one girlfriend. I’m not much for snow activities but decided to get out of my comfort zone and check out Yellowstone in the dead of winter with no one else around. What a great decision I made when I booked that trip! We had such a blast that we decided to rent out the entire yurt camp and bring friends and family along this year. Second time around and it continues to exceed my expectations. The guides, the food, the scenery, the wildlife… all of it is exceptional and stunning! Your adventure begins the second you get in the snow coach in West Yellowstone and continues until you are dropped back off days later. Do yourself a favor and book this trip immediately. I thought it was a once in a lifetime opportunity , but it turns out it’s a twice and probably three or four time opportunity. Heck, I may go back every year from now on. It is that spectacular.

Hi! The website is the same as before. The switch to a new server took longer than expected in 2016 so the site may have been down when you looked. See our new page! The Canyon Yurt Camp is located in the heart of the park at Canyon Village just 1/2 mile from the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River. The Camp is open from late December to early March. We hope you come to visit again soon!
