Hotel's Favourite
Husband and I enjoyed four nights in an Explorer Cabin. Privacy was nice, but don’t expect seclusion; cabins are close to others. Location for park entrance was perfect! Absolutely loved how walkable and fun West Yellowstone is. One suggestion for management would be to add a laundry building for cabin use. It was a nice perk to be able to use the hotel’s, but it’s a decent walk to and from with laundry. Stay was great and would highly recommend!

This is our first visit to Yellowstone, so I can’t say much about the other entrances, but the location of Explorer Cabins at West Yellowstone was perfect! Conveniently, there are several restaurants, souvenir and grocery stores here, but the cabins are far enough away to make it all still feel outdoorsy. And the park entrance was less than a five-minute drive.
My husband and I stayed in a Yellowstone Cabin (two bedrooms, one with a king bed, the other with a bunk bed), and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. The kitchenette, with dishes, a pan and a small pot (perfect for soup on those cold nights!) completed our perfect stay. The whole cabin was extremely clean (an important point, especially in today’s times), spacious, and comfortable!
A quick note was when our fireplace had stopped working — they came to fix it right away, and that was much appreciated. The bonfire in front of our cabins was a great touch too, but we didn’t get to take advantage of it as we spent full days inside the park.
We absolutely loved our visit to Yellowstone, and having Explorer Cabins as our home base was the cherry on top!

It's nice to have your own little space instead of having to stay in a hotel room! This cabin had a King room, queen room, and sofa sleeper that worked good for our party of 5. Sofa mattress is not very comfortable, but ok for kids. Cabins are modern with nice finishes, fireplace, dishwasher, 2 burner stove, fridge, microwave and coffee pot. AC works good, beds were very comfortable, bathroom is large and water pressure good. Housekeeping could pay a bit more attention to area around toilet and shower door rail, but that's the only thing I noticed and not that bad. Bath and body works soaps and lotion were provided, as well as coffee and condiments, basic dishes, napkins, etc. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was due to price, it was $483/night plus tax. However if we would have gotten two rooms for our party it would have been close to this price, without the personal cabin feel. This is a good option for families in the area wanting some privacy and space.

Wanted to do something different and get out of the made rush of tourists in South Florida where we live. Found Explorer Cabins through Yellowstone Vacations.com Easy access, an excellent value, booking agent put together a great package deal with 3 days of snowmobiling the local area. I was glad that the shuttle service didn't pan out, as a rental jeep, proved to be a better value and made travel a whole lot more convenient. Flew into Bozeman, MT, less than 2 hour drive.

We were really excited to stay here because these cabins were recommended to us by friends. I’m not impressed with the cleaning. Specifically, the TV trays were not wiped down, finger prints and food stains all over them. Same with the coffee table and side chair arm rests and wood part of bathroom mirror and bathroom cupboards. It made me wish I had brought Clorox wipes with to clean all those surfaces that had prints or toothpaste on them. Instead I used dish soap and sponge and paper towels. Such a bummer for the price. Also, we didn’t get s’mores kit as advertised. The bed linens seemed clean. Also, the kitchenette was fine but no drain plug for the sink. And only four plates, bowls, utensils. Low quality knives so bring your own. It worked good enough for reheating chili with cheese quesadillas. The fireplace kicks out a ton of nice heat. However don’t expect ease with the TV. The guide and channels don’t correspond. Very weird. Overall a disappointment after a long and amazing day in the park. Will stay elsewhere next time.

Kitchen counter was dirty with crumbs, dishwasher was left with dirty dishes and a bowl of pretzels were left in cupboard. Staff promptly arrived to run dishwasher and clean counters but by then it left us unsettled especially considering Covid. After staff left we then discovered used towels hanging on the bathroom door. My husband went to the office to deliver the used dirty towel and they apologized.
The “cabins” themselves are nice in terms of privacy. They are more like old style hotel rooms with a very limited kitchenette and few tools to cook. Carpet and fabric couch very outdated and unhygienic. Overpriced for what it is. We stayed in Glacier in a cabin that was far superior in every way and literally half the price for same amount of nights.

We spent 2 nights at the Explorer Cabins, and it worked perfect for our visit to Yellowstone. The location is very close to the West Yellowstone entrance, and close enough to walk to restaurants in town. We stayed in Cabin 8, and I liked the location of this one. Some of the cabins are right off of the road. Cabins 1-11 are in a semi circle with parking right off of the road, so it feels a bit more remote. The common fire pits are gas operated, and are turned on each evening. We had a 2 bedroom unit. As described by others, there is a small, but functional kitchen facility. There’s a full size coffee maker, which we appreciate. There are no plates/utensils, so bring your own disposables. The decor is nice, and not quite as rustic as I had thought it would be (which is a good thing). The shower is granite and a nice size. The cabins are close to each other, but enough space between so you don’t hear anything. West Yellowstone doesn’t offer much, and after walking around, we were really happy that we chose the Explorer Cabins. Check in is a bit chaotic. The email told us to check in at the Holiday Inn. When we went there, we were told to go to the Gray Wolf Inn.

Unfortunately what looked like a nice cabin and was definitely our splurge night was greatly disappointing. When we arrived the beds were made, giving us no clue our room wasn’t cleaned after the previous guest. Until I was putting my daughter to bed and noticed some blood on the sheets when I was pulling the bedspread back. At first I thought it was from her but I couldn’t find a source on her body so I continued to pull the blankets back and noticed hair on the sheets. It became pretty clear that whoever turned the room over did not change the bedding. We checked the other bed and saw hair on those sheets as well. I called and a night person came to make the beds, he felt bad and said they have been pretty full and are running on a skeleton crew. I understand the lack of available employees, if that’s the case the decision to put profits above hygiene and cleanliness by booking rooms without the staff to support them is disappointing to say the least. I paid with points(quite a bit) they refunded me less than 15% of my points. This is unacceptable and when I inquired further I received no response. Included are a few photos we took for documentation.

First I’ll say the Explorer Cabins were not what I expected. I thought the surroundings would be more natural as West Yellowstone is right outside the park. In actuality, the cabins are located on a spit of land between parking lots. But they are surrounded by trees on that strip and after exploring WY, they are the closest to what I was expecting that you will find. Once i got over that surprise I was quite happy with them. The room and bathroom are spacious and quiet and very clean.
The location is great, right across the street from the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Ctr - must do - and a block away from the park entrance. Each group of six cabins has a firepit surrounded by Adirondack chairs. S’mores kits are provided in the room. Two bottles of water in reusable tin canteens were a really nice and useful touch. Sitting on the covered porch before dinner was very private and pleasant. Parking is convenient right behind the cabins.
Kitchenette is well stocked and has a toaster and coffee maker along with microwave and two burner stove top, plus tea kettle. Plates, utensils and glasses are all provided and there’s a dishwasher.
Room temperature was very comfortable and I liked having the big, quiet ceiling fan.
In the morning, I borrowed a bike from the front desk and tooled around town while the family slept in. Picked up some breakfast sandwiches

We arrived at the hotel next door to check in just as we were instructed. But when we arrived, there was a note on the front door saying the hotel was closed and we had to drive up the road to the Holiday Inn in order to check in. Explorer Cabins didn’t send out an email before hand or nothing.
While checking in at the nearby holiday inn, the man told me we didn’t have a free breakfast nor the s’mores kit as advertised. Roasting s’mores, free breakfast, and use of the swimming pool was the main selling points when we booked these cabins. And for the high price we paid, we were very disappointed to not have any of these amenities.

Yes. Large shower and lots of towels and amenities.
I checked and they show those dates in September available. You check into the cabins via the Grey Wolf hotel nearby. These cabins are not isolated but are on the main road in West Yellowstone. We didn’t have a problem with it ! If you go, be sure to enjoy dinner at Bullwinkles! Hope this helped!
The best whitewater rafting we have found in this area is just outside of Jackson, Wyoming, which is a few hours away. I would recommend splitting your stay between West Yellowstone and Jackson, Wyoming. It is a beautiful drive through the park from the West Entrance to the South Entrance and through Teton National Park to get to Jackson. The fly fishing in the West Yellowstone area is fantastic and one of my husband's favorite places to fish. We go over to Jackson for the whitewater rafting and usually go with Dave Hansen Whitewater. We've always had a great experience every time we have gone rafting with them.
The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything!
