This cozy little place in the woods and at the mountain edge was a true delight! It is rightfully named as we got to see a bear on our last day here right outside the dining room window. Ann was such a gracious and friendly hostess. She is so kind and loves to get to know her guests. We had a terrific conversation with her when we arrived and again as she prepared her terrific breakfast (which she downplayed as simple, but turned out to quite the tasty treat with and abundance of flavor). Our room was warm and cozy with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was very spacious and Ann provided plenty of oversized, thick towels for showers and the hot tub. An evening in the hot tub before bed was a nice way to end our vacation. Before we left we enjoyed beautiful and amazing wildlife pictures that Great Bear had captured at the nearby Bison Range. I suggest you go there as well, it was well worth the very small admission. Great Spirit Lodge was a great choice for us. You truly feel like a special guest there with gracious hosts and an inviting warm and cozy atmosphere. Maybe you will see a bear too.

It's well off the beaten path, but you get used to it quickly, and that's part of the charm: privacy, quiet, solitude. We would have been much poorer had we not stayed here, even for one night, and had we not met Ann, the proprietor and host. Talking with her for hours was as much fun as seeing Montana's wonderful sites. Our room was divine, as was the breakfast she prepared. We would drive out of our way to visit here again.

My husband and I stayed with Ann for 2 nights in May and had a wonderful time. The breakfast was fantastic and Ann went to great efforts to work around my dietary restrictions. Her home is on a hill overlooking a lush valley and beautiful views. The bedroom was nicely furnished and her home was filled with fun momentos and pictures. Her patio looks over the valley and is regularly visited by large numbers of hummingbirds.

My partner and I left for a 10 day adventure to visit multiple national parks all the way to Glacier National Park. After Day 3 of our trip, we traveled several hundred miles and were in need of some rest. We contacted Bear Spirit Lodge and they happen to have availability, so we booked it right away.

The Location: It's off the beaten path. Ann, the hostess, made sure that we had proper directions. Important note: If you use GPS, depending on where you're coming from, you may end up on unpaved road as you get closer to the lodge. We used Google Maps and mapped from Cornerstone Pizza in Saint Ignatius and we ended up on paved roads. Once you enter the road to the lodge, you will feel like you've truly left the city and entered a hidden retreat.

The Lodge: WOW! Have you ever stepped into one of those homes that just welcomes you right away? Well this is one of them. The lodge is filled with decor from the Hostess' travels and fits in with the Montana theme.

The Amenities: Massage, Hot Tub, Mini Fridge, TV, basically free run of the upstairs. After getting in late, we hopped right in the hot tub. It was perfect. Nice little chill outside, great jets, and the best part....the sky was lit up with millions of stars! After we sat on the deck in our robes and just watched the sky right before we retreated back to the room for some rest.

Room: We stayed in the "Santa Fe" room, which was nicely decorated in I would say a "New Mexico/Native American" theme. It had a queen size bed with another twin bed. More than enough room for two people. The room had an en-suite, which was decorated with a beach theme.

The breakfast: The breakfast was truly a treat! It was a full course breakfast. Warm scones, fresh eggs made with cheese from the Amish market, French toast, bacon, coffee, OJ, and fruit. We were served this unique cantaloupe. I forget the name, but have never had anything like it in CA. Unlike some B&B's, Ann changes up the breakfast menu with something creative each time.

Who's this B&B for: Honestly, anyone. Whether you're looking for a getaway from the city, or want to have a retreat. I think this place, depending on availability, is great for families/groups. The next time I'm in the area, I'm for sure stopping by.

Summary:
We only planned on staying one night, but ended up staying two. If time allowed it, we would probably have stayed three or four. There were a few things that we didn't get a chance to do, such as see the amazing St. Ignatius Mission, visit the Bison Range, go to Flathead Lake (Though we drove past it on the way to Glacier NP - which is only two hours away!) You can tell that there is a lot of thoughtfulness and detail that the hostess has made with operating this B&B. To the warm welcome, to the snacks that she put out after our long day at Glacier. If you're on the fence about coming, I recommend you book your room already!

We have stayed at many BnB but this one is outstanding and we can't say enough! We spent 2 nights and could have stayed another week. We had such fun! Ann and Great Bear make the lodge seem like home away from home only in someways better!

The deck has a hot tub, growing flowers, and dozens of humming birds. We enjoyed watching the birds so much. The deck has several tables with chairs so the guests are able to enjoy the out side.

The lodge is decorated with many of Ann's late Mothers items. You will enjoy looking at Belleck, etc. Also, many beautiful pictures taken by Great Bear. Ann also has a large collection of jewelry and handmade bags that you will enjoy looking at Plus, you can buy a few items to take home~

We were in the area to attend the annual Amish Auction. If you are looking for something different to do next year consider taking this event. There were several auctions going at the sametime. My favorite auctions was the Amish Quilt auction.

Breakfast was a delight. Ann prepares fresh food and incorporates items from the area and from the Amish store. There was another couple staying and we all had a delightful time visiting and lots of laughing. We plan to return SOON.

Being tucked in the woods, it can be a little challenging to find, but Ann is willing to come out and find you! Ann is a gracious hostess, snacks on arrival. The hot tub was great and the fluffy robes, too. After a fabulous breakfast, we lingered a bit looking through the jewels and treasures from her travels that she has for sale. She and Great Bear have some spiritual events through the year that sound interesting. The area has a lot to offer and the surrounding mountains are gorgeous. Worth a few days to explore.

My husband and I were traveling to explore the state of Montana. We were going to be flying into Missoula on a Saturday evening and were in need of a place to stay for the night before heading off towards Glacier National Park. My husband researched and selected Ann’s Spirit Bear Lodge. Honestly, we had never previously stayed at a B&B and were not quite sure what to expect. This is definitely a completely different experience.

We had been in contact with Ann to let her know that we had landed and were heading out and about what time we would be there. It is tucked away but we had no problem finding it using the GPS. This is a 2 bedroom B&B but we were the only ones staying here on this night. We were welcomed in by Ann for a while before we brought in our luggage and settled down. We stayed in the Great Bear room which was more than comfortable. The bathroom was spacious as well. There is a large hot tub on the deck that people can use. We sat out on the deck just taking in the view. We went for a walk early in the morning and when we returned Ann had prepared us an amazing breakfast spread with a lot of local foods and it was all delicious. We had a wonderful breakfast and conversation with her just talking about our stories.

The property is wonderful. We were able to walk around and explore and it was so beautiful and peaceful. When we were walking in the early morning we saw a fox walking down her road and several deer hanging about. The landscape is breathtaking and instantly calming.

If you are looking for a wonderful, welcoming place to stay while in St. Ignatius we would definitely recommend and it was a pleasure to meet and spend time with Ann.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two nights at Bear Spirit Lodge over Labor Day. We felt extremely welcomed and were well-fed in the mornings. Going to a B&B for the first time is always a shot in the dark, but you can't go wrong with this choice. Next time I'm in Montana, I'm going back.
