Sage Lodge is seen by many as a tranquil haven, boasting a picturesque setting near natural attractions and offering guests a range of praised amenities, such as diverse dining options, an esteemed spa, and numerous activities. While the lodge earns accolades for its immaculate cleanliness and serene ambiance, complete with rooms featuring fireplaces and scenic vistas, some visitors feel the cost does not match the experience, citing overpricing and variable service quality. The dining experience, in particular, has met with mixed reviews, with some guests experiencing disappointment.

My husband and I just returned from a week at Sage. By the website and reviews, I wanted to love it. It is a beautiful property with gorgeous mountains on both sides. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable (the bed was hard but slept well). Everyone (save one waitress) was very helpful and accommodating. It’s super quiet for the most part, and it’s an easy drive to North Gate for Yellowstone. We did have a fridge and a fireplace and a lovely window seat. Now the negatives. It’s off the main road, so you need 4wd to easily get in and out. There was a car in a ditch one night. Upon arriving, there was a horrible smell in the lobby. That smell was cooked brussel sprouts and it permeates all over! To me, it was nauseating. And it always smelled that way. Our room was fairly close ( about 4 in from lobby) so hopefully other rooms don’t experience that. There was also live entertainment one night that was so loud, we could hear it in our room even with the tv on). The hot tub looks inviting but it’s a good distance in the very cold (in the teens). Finally, we did experience the restaurant twice- once for room service and once in person. Room service was excellent. We ordered a few appetizers and they came super fast. The sausage sampler, charcuterie and spinach dip are excellent and plentiful. Our final night, we decided to eat at Fireside. Not that great. First, it’s expensive like fine dining but it’s basically a lounge. There are TVs playing sports, condiments on the bar being filled and it’s noisy. There were two tables near us yelling back and forth. If you’re eating a $38 entree, you expect a little better. Also our waitress was either new or inept. She didn’t offer suggestions for drinks or food, told me that something (a wine which was on the menu by the glass) was not available by the glass. Then after getting our order, we did not see her again until we were through! My husband had the trout and cleaned his plate but I thought the Bison spaghetti was just okay and I didn’t like the pine nuts in it. Overall I guess we were expecting a step down from Sea Island or the Montage hotels but this was more 4 star.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon night here at The Sage Lodge and our experience was absolutely phenomenal; I am completely blown away by this resort!

Though rooms here are definitely pricey ($569 for Friday, June 12th) , it was very well worth it. The service was 5-star quality and the resort was absolutely stunning. Our room was gorgeous with a fireplace, and we spent the evening sitting out on the patio with views of the pond and mountains playing giant connect four (one of many large yard games provided by the resort).

There are wonderful walking trails around the resort and hot tubs as well as various activities, like mountain biking and ax throwing, that are included in the nightly resort fee ($25).

We had dinner and drinks in the restaurant in the main lodge and the food was phenomenal and prices were actually very reasonable, which was nice.

However, I am most impressed by the fact that the Sage Lodge is offering a 40% discount to anyone who works in healthcare for the entire year of 2020. This brought the price of our room down to $341 for that night. We were very much appreciative of this kind gesture.

Though we may not be able to afford to visit here all the time, we will definitely be back for special occasions!

My husband and I stayed at Sage Lodge with our two children (4 & 6). We stayed in one of the hotel rooms at the lodge. The property is gorgeous. Picturesque views and pond for fishing. The room was super comfortable, well decorated and very clean. There was a beautiful bathroom with soaker tub and large shower. There was a fire place in the room, mini fridge, coffee machine and safe. The room had a small patio off of it with a small table and 2 chairs.

There was a small laundry room with 2 washer, 2 dryers, some laundry essentials and ironing boards. It was a very nice touch but guests put a damper on the concept by leaving their loads of laundry in all of the machines and not being courteous to others. Either way it’s a bonus that it’s there so either take it or don’t use it.

The restaurants were great. There is one in the main building called the Fireside Room and one in a separate building called the Grill. Staff at both were very pleasant, courteous and attentive. The food at both was excellent. The Grill can be much more expensive due to the selections and wine list. I would definitely recommend doing both.

We did the llama meet and great. It was so much fun. The kids loved it. The staff was very patient, allowed plenty of time and interaction with the llamas. In the end you also received a very nice tote with llama swag. The kids also loved that!

We did the luxury river float. The boat was incredible. Like art. Anna our guide was the sweetest person and the kids loved her. She was super knowledgeable about the local wildlife and area. She recommended Follow Your Nose BBQ and she did NOT steer us wrong! We highly recommend stopping there!

Matt was so helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. He took the time to talk to the kids and listen to them as they rambled on about all the awesome things they have seen and done while there. The kids also enjoyed the fly fishing lesson and then getting to practice on the pond.

There was so much to see and do, we couldn’t fit it all in! The biggest complaint I have was leaving when vacation was over. I could’ve stayed there forever!

Thank you for an amazing vacation!

We stayed at the Sage lodge for three nights while attending a wedding. The bride paid for the room which is good because I would have walked out. Rooms were over $300.00 a night and they were dark, very poorly lit. There was no dresser to store clothes and only a tiny closet. Where a small refrigerator normally would be was an ice chest, not a refrigerator. I would rather have had a refrigerator. The coffee pot was broken, items like water bottles were not replaced after being used up. Did I mention there were no drawers to put clothes in? Trash cans were not emptied daily and there was barely enough room to turn around in the shower. I will say that they go out of there way to prepare foods for people with food allergies and Chef Daniel has great creativity with his dishes. The servers all have great personalities, especially one named Sage.

Sage Lodge is lovely! It’s nestled right into a beautiful spot with views for days. Great interior design. More than comfortable rooms. Free s’more kits. Walking trails. Close to Yellowstone and Chico Hot Springs for a day soak. The more high end dining area, the Grill, is closed due to Covid, so we ate in the Fireside Room. We split a prime rib dinner. Server asked us if we wanted to keep our silverware after the salad course (just take the dirty stuff and bring me clean ones). Meat was cold. Not plated for us as a share meal...just an extra plate. Not worth the $38. If you’re going to eat there, order the burgers instead, as these were amazing!!

If you are traveling with your dog and want luxury accommodations, this is the place. Dog bowl, dog blanket and towel in-room with biscuits! We celebrated the engagement of my son and his now-fiance. Staff were very attentive to our personal celebration and assisted us in every way. Fireside Room dinners were delicious and authentic to the area. Top notch amenities in bathroom for shampoo, etc. Thick, soft, white towels. An assortment of pillows to use. Every room has a fireplace, which is a plus. Nook and crannies in hallways for comfortable private conversations if the Lobby is too public. Assortment of games to play. Scopes in Lobby for viewing wildlife. Did I say the staff are amazing? What actually impressed me the most is this facility respects wildlife. There are no "heads" of wild animals or taxidermist mounts anywhere. Instead, they are artistic metal art decorations representing the local wildlife. They also display local artist's paintings of the area. It's great to have a resort that respects the local wildlife. All staff wore face masks while present in the building, which made me feel safe and also impressed me that they care about their guests' well-being. My only complaint is the spa is understaffed.

SAGE Lodge absolutely hit the mark and our vacation in Montana/Yellowstone was perfect for the summer of 2020! The lodge design is gorgeous. Upon entering the lobby we were greeted with a majestic mountain view with floor to ceiling windows. Linda made sure we had a room with a porch on the lower floor for added space as we were traveling with college age sons. Upon arrival we immediately hit the Jacuzzi and relaxed taking in the scenic beauty of Paradise Valley. We enjoyed Spa services, horseback riding a few minutes away, mountain biking on property, ax throwing, fly fishing, white water rafting and smores’ around the fire-pits. In addition to the variety of activities, the staff was off the charts, as Keith and Scott were terrific! Keith booked activities in advance for us and advised us regarding organizing our daily plans and dinner suggestions. Scott instructed my boys regarding fly fishing and ax throwing. Our stay was exactly as I imagined it would be and then some. I can honestly say I was sad to say goodbye because it felt like I was leaving family. Thanks Keith and Scott! Our family had an awesome time and would HIGHLY recommend SAGE Lodge.

We stayed 4 evenings, We, family, and friends all had similar experiences with trying to call the lodge to make arrangements. They NEVER answered the phone or returned calls. The only responsive person was, Emma.

Lovely setting but way overpriced. We had a premium room which was a good size and slept 4. We had a fireplace and a second one on our patio. The bathroom was large with a soaking tub, separate shower, and double sinks. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable; the hotel was kept very, very clean by their team and room service was excellent.

Our experience, for price of close to $600 per night plus meals, was disappointing. The menu was virtually the same for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The rooms are so dark that we used the flashlight on our phone to find our clothes in the closet. The soap bar was minuscule and don't buy into the "stocked minibar". It was six cans and some water.

We did attend a wedding in their separate hall and the food was excellent.

Wonderful hotel. Room, a king suite on second floor was very nice with a fireplace and balcony overlooking the trout pond. There is a $25 a day resort fee and you receive access to fly rods and mountain bikes as well as some other amenities. There are 2 rooms on the first floor with outdoor fireplaces. Restaurant was good and bar is very nice.
Now the problems- several days before we arrived I called to make dinner reservations. I had signed up for the special room dining credit package. A good deal . My phone contact gave me reservations for both nights-6:30. When we checked in no reservation on the books. Front desk said no problem and said they would book us for 6:30. Went down to dinner, hostesses said no reservations. Finally we got a table. Same drill the next night. No reservations. Again we finally were accommodated. Unacceptable at $600+ a night.
When we checked out there was now food credit per our package on our bill. Complained and they reran the bill with one night food credit. Complained again, front desk tried to tell us the credit was only for one night. I pointed out the daily rate charged was the same thus I was entitled to another food credit. It did not click with the front desk but eventually I got my second credit.
Apparently there is a bad disconnect somewhere in the line of communication and it needs to be corrected.

Good question! We offer complimentary guided hikes throughout the seasons based on weather and daily schedules (generally either in late AM/early afternoon). We can however schedule private experiences to cater to any scenic preference (though at an additional fee).

"There are no bad months in Montana"... even April! Sure it might be a mix of cold/wet weather, but there is ALWAYS things to do! As for horseback riding, there are nearby vendors that provide options to which we can assist with booking. Advising them that you are experienced will be key to ensure they create a fun event for you two. Restaurants are open, great wine to be enjoyed, and great sights to see. Fishing excursions rely mostly on local springs/creeks as the rivers are not quite ready for the typical angler. Yellowstone National Park is just a short drive away and not to be missed, regardless of the time of year.

Depending on when in December you are visiting the snow in the Sage area could be iffy. Things to do: Visit Chico Hot Springs-right around the corner , and soak in the great outdoor hot springs. Have dinner at Chico in the main dining room-SUPERB. Drive down to YNP and visit the thermal area around Mammoth. If you cross country ski arrange for a backcountry trip with the Mammoth hotel outfitter. Amazing. Snowshoe the area between Mammoth and Cooke City. There is also some great cross country skiing in that area. A four wheel drive SUV is a must.
