My wife, me and two children (10 & 7 years old) stayed at the Murray Hotel in late September and it was one of those places that stands out due to the unique setting. The room ended up being a suite on the third floor with bedrooms furnished with comfortable beds on either end of the main living area. It had a small functional kitchen with a sink, a small refrigerator, but no dishwasher (I can't remember if it had an oven, but my wife says it did). The elevator is as historic as the rest of the building and is one that requires an attendant to operate, which ended up being the receptionist, who was happy to take us up as we needed. It was clean and exceeded our expectations, mainly because I did not think there would be two separate bedrooms, but also due to little things like having spare toiletries not normally seen in large chain hotels like spare toothbrushes and razors available in the bathroom. It seems like a lot of thought is given to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible and your basic needs are met. The front desk was courteous and friendly. Parking was not an issue for us, since we were able to park right in front of the hotel off the main street, but I can see how it could be an issue during busier times, since there is no dedicated garage connected to the property. The deck on top of the building was neat, as you could see the mountains and about half of historic Livingston from it. The historic part of the city of Livingston was easy to access from this location. We were able to easily walk around the town and see what it had to offer, although most of the shops and restaurants were not open since we arrived so late in the tourist season. If you find yourself in Livingston, I would definitely recommend checking this place out, even if you do not end up staying here. I would stay here again with my family should I find myself in Livingston.

My wife is very fussy. This visit would be hit or miss because I knew up front this was no cookie cutter hotel. Well, it was a smash hit. Native American pictures were fabulous. Nice historical display case. Each room is individually decorated with antique furniture. I wondered how the mattress would be? Was it so old that Buffalo Bill slept on it? No, it was fantastic! Bathroom was a little quirky in that it was a step up and had two separate doors. Light switch was in the middle of the bathroom between the two doors. Again, quirky. The hotel is next to a train yard. The night stand by the bed had ear plugs. However, after a long day of flying and driving, no ear plugs were needed. My wife is a light sleeper, she didn’t move for 8 hours. We will be back!

Room Tip:You just park on the street. Not a problem. We parked right in front of the hotel.

We loved our stay here. The beds and furniture were extremely comfortable and the room was so spacious and had everything we needed. The earplugs that were provided were very much appreciated as there are trains running nearby, throughout the night. We ate at the restaurant downstairs, which was very good and were able to buy a bottle of wine to take back to the room with us. We only had a short stay, but the town seems to have quite a few good restaurants and cafes. Looking forward to going back someday.

Been here twice before and it’s not changed, which has largely been the case for decades. Wonderful, atmospheric, cared for, just a magical place. The bed rooms and public rooms just ooze history. Downsides? The train horns from just across the street will disturb your sleep, and, a nice upfront touch, ear plugs are provided at bedside… The experience more than makes up for it, though. Excellent

Cool hotel conveniently located near shops and restaurants. Our room was very spacious with a small fridge and a small coffee pot. Staff was generally friendly and attentive. BUT........the hotel is right across the street from the train tracks. The trains are REALLY loud and come through several times a night. They leave you earplugs in the room . . . they don't help. The room was very hot, we opened the windows and turned on the AC and it was still hot - which obviously didn't help with the trains, but it was either deal with hot or deal with train noise. My one night stay there was not a good night sleep.

Unfortunately had a terrible experience. Stayed here in December when it was very cold. This is a very cute boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Livingston. Staff was very friendly at check in and took us up to our room. Having booked one of their king suites for the night, it was well appointed and a really neat vintage style room. The attendant who got us checked in noticed the main radiant heaters were not working but advised the small wall heaters should be sufficient. There was no one from maintenance available to fix the heat. Needless to say the small heaters were insufficient. I understand that this is a very old boutique hotel, but the front desk is unstaffed at night and no one to contact for extra blankets or to change rooms. Miserable experience and unacceptable as we froze that night. Emailed management multiple times after checkout with no response. Would advise against staying here during winter season

The Hôtels location is fab — right smack dab in historic Livingston within walking distance to everything offered by the up and coming hip Livingston art, cafe, restaurant and outdoors scene.
Stayed 8 nites. Hotel reception/welcome was luke warm. Front desk reception was somewhat aloof.
Stayed in room 325 which pays hommage to 1930s and 40s dust collecting kitchen appliances and nic-nacs leaving little room for travel gear.
Tin « armoir » was tipsy/wobbly and would not close — annoyingly popping open as one tried to access the window side of the king bed.
I would definitely stay here again for the historic vibe and the hotel’s location, but I would request a different king suite.

Love the Murray Hotel in Livingston. So much character and great downtown location.. Vickie, on the front desk, was helpful on the phone and in person when we arrived. The lobby and halls serve as a museum with artifacts and old photos. The elevator is unique and part of the fun staying there. Our two room suite was cozy and charming. Bed was comfortable, small basket of toiletries by the sink, plenty of towels in the bathroom...tub and toilet in its own room...one of the quirky things we enjoy. Stayed there previously and will again.

My five day stay was wonderful and relaxing. The hotel has maintained its former glory when it was built to service travellers on the railroad heading west, while at the same time providing some modern conveniences, such as wifi. The hotel is in the absolute centre of town and the attached family bar is the most popular in town. The casual restaurant is excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful. This is "get-away" at its best.

If you’re a sucker for old hotels like I am, the Murray is worth a stay. Classic building and sign out front drew me in, and the rooms were modernized perfectly, while being clean and well thought out. And for an extra $30 you can bring your dog which is always a selling point for us. Leena at the front desk was super cool and helpful and added to the Murray’s charm. I would definitely recommend this Hotel! And check out Neptune’s Tap House and Eatery too. -01/23/21

I wish I could remember! It was on 3rd floor and had two beds and a sitting area. I usually book directly with a hotel but this time I used a booking site and was able to get a suite for an amazing price. The older lady at the front desk used to go to school in Waynesboro, Virginia; she'll get a kick out of you knowing that!
There are more places to choose from in the Livingston area.
