Under Canvas North Yellowstone - Paradise Valley boasts a scenic location that enchants travelers with its proximity to nature and serene landscapes. While the luxurious accommodations and cleanliness, including quality linens and well-maintained en-suite bathrooms, receive positive remarks, some guests feel the overall experience doesn't justify the cost, pointing to overpriced amenities. The vibrant atmosphere, complete with live music, earns praise, though improvements in noise control are suggested. Service is consistently lauded for its attentive and personalized approach, yet guests desire more adult-oriented activities and consistent availability of amenities.

Wow - my husband and I were simply blown away by our stay at Under Canvas. It was clear from our first day at camp that attention to detail and curating a custom experience for each guest was important to every single member of the staff.

We came to camp to celebrate our anniversary and were quickly and kindly greeted by Darcy at the front desk. Then, to our surprise and delight, when we entered our tent there was a sign and decoration set up letting us know that the Under Canvas North Yellowstone staff wished us a very happy anniversary! The food absolutely blew us away. The servers went above and beyond to ensure that each meal we ate at camp was allergy safe for me and up to par. We were also so impressed by how the servers took the time to interact kindly not just with adults, but also with the kids at camp, making them feel comfortable and helping them choose meals they would find delicious. Sarah, Emmett, Emily, and Madelyn especially stood out as extraordinary staff members who truly took the time to care for each and every detail as well as each and every guest.

The kitchen staff quickly churned out many high quality meals no matter the volume of guests at camp. This was incredibly impressive to us, considering the attention to allergies, the substitutions made for many of the kids at camp, and the large volume of guests that arrived at the beginning and again at the end of our stay at camp. When we asked after the kitchen staff, the servers were quick to give credit to Valerie, Julian, and Dylan. We are so appreciative of their hard work in the kitchen.

Even the housekeeping staff was outstanding - Mikayla and Paris both checked in at several points to see if we needed a ride anywhere on their golf cart and asked if our tent was up to our standards. Additionally, Harry the manager asked after us while we were checking in. You would never get that kind of treatment at a Hilton or Marriott!

The location and stellar offering of activities each night at camp and additional excursions that could be coordinated were just the cherry on top of a truly delightful experience. Being able to walk along the Yellowstone River in the evenings and come back to a campfire, live music, and s’more’s was special for our anniversary week celebration. It was also so convenient to be so close to Mammoth/the north Yellowstone entrance. We were totally thrilled by our Under Canada’s experience and are hoping to return soon! We cannot simply call this a “trip” or a “vacation” - this was a unique experience that felt curated to us, and we have each and every member of the Under Canvas staff to thank for that.

I stayed one night with my wife, adult daughter, and my son along with his fiance. The deluxe riverside adjoining tents worked out great for our group and really made for the memorable experience. The location near the Yellowstone river, facing the mountain line was beautiful and made for a very serene experience. It was definitely a pricey investment for the experience, but I feel the tent's amenities, with fairly comfortable beds, wood burning stoves to keep the tent heated at night, and the full bathrooms, along with personal gas fire pit and shared lounge space between our tents made it worth it for a one-time experience! Where I was a bit disappointed was with the dining experience - the night we were there a few of the most desireable menu options were not available and some of the plates we ordered were lacking in quality. You are not allowed to bring your own food to your tents, so you either eat on property or have to drive a few miles to a local town for dining. It also wasn't clear from the website amenities listed, such as live music and morning yoga, that these were not available each day - which was disappointing not to have either of these available during our stay. Outside of that, the staff really hustled to be responsive and make the stay as positive as possible, and nothing will take away from getting up first thing in the morning and sitting in front of our tent to enjoy the quiet peaceful beauty of the river running past in an idyllic mountain setting.

We were so excited to stay at this newly opened property. Paradise Valley lives up to its name and Under Canvas was the perfect oasis to welcome us.

From the beautiful riverside location (breathtaking views all around), the relaxed, comfortable & cool vibe Under Canvas organically creates, lending to guest camaraderie, to the friendly service, this stay was exactly what our family needed!

I was impressed with the menu from breakfast to dinner, very much enjoyed the fresh, local trout dinner & the lovely complimentary teas were also a highlight. Having our little 3 year old play with other children at the painting activity was priceless! She met other kiddos there and danced the night away. Not to mention the complementary smores kit was a huge hit (and not just for the kids!).

When a vibrant thunderstorm passed over, my husband made a fire in the woodstove making such a cozy atmosphere in our dry & warm tent with big fluffy white pillows and bedding. aaahhhhh!

We appreciated the communal tent, games, beverages & outdoor fire pits where we gained valuable tips on what to do during the day from fellow campers which really enhanced the trip. The staff was very friendly and attentive too with genuine smiles. We really felt comfortable with all aspects of our stay and look forward to planning our next adventure, staying at Under Canvas.

I’m a big review reader so I wanted to write an honest review. First the pros: the people are so nice, the morning views are spectacular and you sit around campfires talking to all sorts of great people (because no wifi). That said, our stay was anything but relaxing. The first night ( Saturday) there was a loud concert next door that kept my kids up until midnight. I called the front desk and they said it ”should be over by 11.” 11? I just wish someone had warned us. I never would have booked a Saturday night knowing there was a loud concert next door. My kids were absolutely exhausted the next day. But At that point I was still excited to have a peaceful, quiet Sunday night and forget about the concert. Sunday night when we got back to our tent, my daughter looked at the ceiling and noticed it was swarmed with gnats. Gnats crawling all over our water bottles, kindles, phones, toiletries. Hundreds over our bed and swarming into the bathroom. They were EVERYWHERE. We called The front desk and a sweet, helpful young man came and vacuumed but every time he got rid of them, they just kept coming in. He said they were attracted to light and would “die within 6 hrs.” We’d had a few bugs the night before (like maybe 20?) - no big deal it’s camping, but this was so so disgusting and incredibly stressful. We had to turn out all the lanterns and shower in pitch black. I couldn’t even read on my kindle or look at my phone because hundreds of gnats would swarm. I asked if any other tents were available and was told no.
I would’ve taken photos but we were all so grossed out we just wanted to turn out any lights. In the morning there were dead bugs everywhere. I was also so skeeved out and did laundry at our next hotel (which was a drag. I didn’t want to have to do laundry to wash all the dead bugs out of our stuff on vacation.) Under Canvas was such a splurge for us and we were SO excited, but to say we were disappointed is an understatement. UC is so pricey and we got two very stressful nights. After our stay, I spoke to other people who’d been to UC and said they would have left if they’d had our experience. Again, the staff is great. Food is good. Views amazing but we were so so so disappointed.

This place could be amazing, but it is only ok. Most of this is easily fixable. The site is gorgeous but there is a real lack of "flair" to the place, and the tents, while very clean, lack some basic things (hooks, drawers, any kind of design feel) that would make it feel worth the $$$.

The nightly live music should be acoustic so not everyone has to be subject to whomever is wailing away that night. Would be nice to just enjoy the stars in peace. I would also add drawer and a basic hanging closet or more hooks so you don't have to live out of a suitcase with crap everywhere. I would add some "local color" by getting something with the palette and feel of the West-- plenty of options and patters to liven up what felt like a corporate tent. Needs to have a design element if you want repeat visitors who are willing to pay the price. I've stayed in many similar types of places that were more inspiring and would warrant a repeat visit to a different location (if they had them).

I was very excited for this stay but felt disappointed. If it had been half the price I wouldn't care, but for the money it should feel special.

A bonus is that everyone who works there was very nice and helpful.

One of us enjoyed our stay at Under Canvas Paradise Valley and one didn't. It is a beautiful setting and the tents are decorated and set up beautifully as well. The bed was very comfortable and the linens very nice. The shower and all the furnishing details were very nice as well.

The wood stove does need to be a bit bigger though. You can't stoke it and have it go all night. If you want it to provide heat, you will need to tend it and add wood every 2 hours or so. Also the tent flaps do vibrate and make noise in the wind. We used a tie-down we brought with us to anchor the loud strap and keep it quiet. Look it is a tent, so you are going to hear your neighbors whether they are talking or snoring! People aside, our other neighbors like coyotes, owls and sandhill cranes were lovely to listen to at night!

The food was a little below average. Everything tasted fine, but it wasn't anything to rave about.

The service was exceptional and the staff very friendly and nice. They all made our stay pleasant.

One of us has stayed at many other "glamping" style accommodations world-wide and found it to be within the range of that style of lodging. But it is a little expensive for what you get. Perhaps we should have taken advantage of more of the perks to truly feel that the cost was worth it.

If you want your stay to be unique and one with nature, I highly recommend Under Canvas! The staff members are warm, helpful, and full of energy. Definitely a great place for the younger crowd, but we midlifers enjoyed our one night stay despite the lack of our usual amenities (electricity). The tent was spacious, bed was very comfortable and we loved the sunroof to see the stars/clouds at night. The stove was a bit challenging to keep stoked in the night for heat, but you have plenty of blankets to keep you warm. Convenient, full-size, flushable toilet inside tent…along with a pull-style shower which was a bit more challenging to use. Please note there are battery run lights/lamps/fan—no electricity. We were unaware of that at booking. Lots of activities and food/drink at main lobby tent. No food allowed in tents due to critters. Definitely a glamping experience…but still camping, not a motel. Fun experience, not sure we’d do it again due to our ages, but still highly recommend!

Under Canvas Paradise Valley is a fantastic camping experience. My husband and I celebrated our 29th anniversary there with a 4-night stay and, overall, enjoyed ourselves immensely. The pros are many: comfortable bed with plenty of warm blankets for the chilly nights; fully functional bathroom in the tent; lovely setting with a wonderful outdoor deck and chairs to enjoy views of the river and mountains (ask for tent 51–we had no neighbors on one side, which is great since conversions carry and noisy neighbors are always clueless!); and lots of thoughtful touches, like kindling for the wood stove (practice making a fire and keeping it lit before you need it to ward off the cold at 2 am!), lanterns, and a battery pack for charging your phone. The staff is friendly and try to help with little things; however, they are young. Remember this and set your expectations accordingly. The cons are few, but if you are expecting a “hotel” experience, you will be disappointed, so first, as another reviewer noted, remember that this is upscale camping and not, as UC styles itself, luxury (except perhaps for the prices). First, expect bugs. Our tent was filled with them from start to finish even after we asked that three large gaps in the tent be covered (they did cover one). I am a seasoned camper (like sleeping bag on the ground in a tent) and I never had bugs in my tent to this degree. Fortunately, they weren’t mosquitoes or spiders, just gnats mostly, but we did have a constant horsefly invasion. Second, get to the fireside early if you want a seat! We ended up skipping the whole thing after our first night vying for a spot. Finally, try eating dinner in Gardiner or Livingston. Dinner on-site was way overpriced for what they served. When you come—and I think you should!—pack for varying weather: long, lightweight pants, fleece pullovers, tees, and warm pjs for nights. And bring a rainproof jacket! Don’t miss the Pine Creek Falls trail and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. And take a trip down the river with Hannah from Old Montana Boat Company (book the Luxury Float directly with UC). I am glad I experienced upscale camping (again, not luxury) with UC.

Such a unique resort that thought of everything to make the experience authentic but still luxurious. The most relaxing and restorative time away I've had. The site's location was pure perfection. Great view of the mountains and easy walk down to the river. The whole vibe is wholesome. We had a great experience with every team member we came into contact with. The team was attentive and dedicated. Even managers were engaged with guests and resolving any small concerns. Shout out to Darcy, Thad, Madeline, and Chelsea! There are a few food options nearby, but not too much. Luckily, the food on-site was great and there was enough variety to keep it interesting. Get the bison burger, you will not regret it! No liquor but a pretty solid beer and wine list. We got a standard tent and it did not disappoint. It was much larger than we expected and had gorgeous furniture. Most impressive was the shower and it's hot water! No electricity but they kept us stocked with battery packs and honestly, you don't want to look at your phone when you have views like that.

I think this was quite a unique stay, and the staff were very friendly and accomodating, and course, Montana was beautiful so the location was spot on. ..But there were a few things I wish I knew about beforehand. I think I was under the impression that although this was in a tent, it was still going to be more of a "hotel" experience, especially given that I paid betwen 500-700 a night - which is totally in the luxury hotel range of pricing.

this more like very upscale "glamping". and $700.00 is a lot of pay for glamping. even $500 a night is a lot to pay for glamping!

In addition, (and this was likely my fault for not digging into this more) this is more for families than for couples or adults trying to have a relaxing time. most of the actitives were geared toward children and there were a ton of kids!. I love kids, but I also was looking for a relaxing adult time with my friends. So more adult options would have been appreciated, like more wine or beer options or, for this price point, maybe a mobile spa option?

the other issue was that it was super hot during my stay (over 90) Of course, noone has control over the weather, but the tents were very exposed and turned into hot boxes during the day . The "lobby tent" had a couple of AC units, but definitley could have used more. There also was no real outside awning (there was a large one that looked very nice, but the covering was transparent and so didn't provide real shade) I think there could have been other things offered to make the heat more bearable, like water mist machines outside for the patio, to at least make the common area more endurable during the afternoon super hot hours. I think that planting more trees around the property would also make it less like a oven.
