The Lamplighter Motel has new owners who have changed its name to Lamplighter Cabins & Suites. We have done a ton of renovations. We offer a quiet, friendly atmosphere. Our motel is unique, offering 6 cabins and and 9 suites. Most rooms have full kitchens! We also offer larger accomodations with up to 5 beds. The Lamplighter is locally owned and operated. It is located just blocks from Carroll College and downtown Helena. The motel is located in a quiet neighborhood within Helena's Mansion District. The lamplighter is centerally located near downtown. It is walking distance from a grocery store (Van's), a number of restaurants ( Steve's Cafe, Shellie's Country Cafe, Cafe Zydeco, Oriental Kitchen, and Hardee's), and casino restaurants (Golden Nugget, Motana Nugget and the Copper Club). which are all conveniently located a short distance from Lamplighter Hotel.

Detailed Reviews
Quaint cabin. Very poor lighting, especially in the bathroom. My cabin had no counterspace in the bathroom either. Perhaps, because they were full, an everyone may have been on their WiFi, but the offered streaming for TV was constantly dropping signal and had to be reset. Bed was good and comfortable and the unit was clean. For the price, I sure didn't expect to need to wash my own glass a cup and the coffee maker before I left. No services were provided in the unit for the three days I was there.

Cabins are renovated and clean. Staff at check in friendly. The cabins are on the small side. We didn’t bring all our luggage in due to the size. Our bathroom was a little cramped. Also parking was tight with our pickup truck, which was on the smaller end for US trucks.

The appeal of these sunflower cabins is that they aren't trying to be something they're not. We stayed in #23, the elephant cabin. It was cozy, quiet, comfortable, inexpensive, and centrally located. In a town overrun with generic chain hotels, I will come back to this one.

Hotel's Favourite
My son and I stayed in cabin #25. Super cute!! The property is clean and orderly. The cabin was perfect....nicely decorated, comfortable and super cozy. I would stay at this location again, without hesitation. Hands down better than any hotel/motel room!

I really enjoyed my stay at the lamplighter! I wanted something more than a hotel room while visiting friends in the area and this was perfect. The wifi was reliable so I could work remotely, the owners/staff were so friendly, and there’s a grocery store very close by. I think they’ve made updates recently so it’s hard to know if some of the reviews are before those were done, but everything was very comfortable. I didn’t have the same issue with children in the parking lot or noise, so I think it’s similar to any hotel situation where there might be guests who are loud. I will absolutely stay here again when I visit!

The house would have been nice for 4 women on a work trip, all having their own room. The rooms were in fact nice and the house was set up well. The host though was awful and we had a terrible experience. When we checked in, the heat was below 40 degrees and freezing in wintertime, which is absolutely unacceptable. We asked for blankets, which we received, but we still needed to sleep in outdoor gear because there were no space heaters (the host said there were), and the blankets were insufficient. The shower was running when we arrived - enough water to take a shower. Despite our complaints, we were told nothing could be fixed until morning, and the only solution was to turn up the heat very high to try to heat the house faster. The house was advertised as yellow, but it was white, which made it difficult to find at night. When we asked for a refund due to lack of heat, management not only lied in emails and refused, but were incredibly rude. They claimed we had children with us, which wasn't true - we were 4 adult women traveling for an early morning work event the following day. Staff saw each of us in-person when dealing with the heat and water issues. Management also claimed they offered to move us, but they didn't offer that, because they said they had nowhere to move us to. We hoped the host would make it right, and I'm very disappointed that they didn't. The lack of customer service and rudeness in a small town like Helena is disheartening. Please take your business elsewhere and support other folks who care about their customers. I do not recommend staying here.

Response from Dan Hill, Owner at Lamplighter Cabins & Suites
Responded 27 May 2023
I am sorry you were not happy with your stay. We did in fact try to accomodate you and your guests in many ways and fixed the problems you mention, but that wasn't included in your review. Others - please believe us when we say this review was overly negative and doesn't include the whole story.

Warning don’t get #. 33 ..this is a cute place inside and out but unfortunately they rent by the month to families..we had a u haul parked at our door ...at least two large noisy families next to us ..we had to keep the windows closed when they stared up their BBQ to keep the odor out ..we had to ask them to turn down the music and they have 7 kids on scooters, bikes and skateboards..wizzing all around and depositing them at our door step ..they talked loudly all night
We asked to be moved but they said they were full ..the owners are nice but they should not rent that unit out while so many people are next door ..they also need a sign to warn that children are all over the drive way ..we almost hit one ..
This spoiled the lovey unit we were in ...it was very clean and well stocked ...great bed and linens and WiFi

We stayed for a family wedding and it was great to all be together in one complex. The service was great and the rooms were very comfortable! The cabins are located well with a store, restaurant and coffee shop right across the street. Downtown is less than 2 miles away.

I was looking for a value priced hotel in Helena on a recent business trip. I found this hidden gem. Price was great, cabin was quiet, dog friendly, and very comfortable. The cabins are similar to a tiny house. I will definitely be booking here again!
