January 2018, we decided to become farmers and began to look for land. Our search led us down an amazing path to an incredible hidden gem, minutes from Helena. Tucked away, hidden from plain sight, our dream awaited. Welcome to the Oddfellow. To state it simply, our mission is to become natural farmers, farming practices that imitate the way of nature, and to invite our guests, and our community along in this journey. We aim to provide a place to come together, commune with nature, and enjoy the fruits of the farm. We are not inventing new practices, but following the path laid out by those we admire. Returning to our roots, and letting God and the earth be our guide. We hope you will come join us, in this adventure called the Oddfellow. Jared Engels, Paul Mabie & The Oddfellow Team

Detailed Reviews
On our first visit, we stayed overnight and had the Chef's Table Menu. At check in we were offered a complimentary glass of wine which we sipped while touring the farm with Blue, the local dog, as our chaperone. We visited the animals and enjoyed expansive views of the Helena Valley. Dinner was breathtaking. The continental breakfast was top rate and we were able to fill our bellies for a full day of skiing at Great Divide Ski Hill (only a few minutes away) Our room was rustic and quaint which gave us a romantic European feeling. On our return we only stayed for dinner on the ala carte menu but were instantly swept away by the atmosphere.

Exceptional!
From the moment we checked in, the owner Paul was an absolutely fantastic host, he and Jared have created a truly brilliant concept here at the inn and farm.
The breathtaking Montana expanse is a perfect backdrop for this gorgeous historical home. we’ve found a little slice of southern France minutes from downtown Helena complete with the “je ne sais quoi“ that only comes from the passionate owners and chef.
The farm itself is a working 42 acre farm with all kinds of adorable animals, complete with Toulouse the elderly, yet endearing farm cat with whom I shared many a fabulous meal with.
The main home is beautifully and lovingly restored. A must see for any lover of historical architecture! However, we opted for a more adventurous lodging option; and stayed in the charming off-grid Tiny House. Not only is it very “Instagramable” but the attention to detail and efforts that go into creating an eco-sustainable option do not fall flat! I hope to be back very soon!
Which brings me to the food, what can I say other than, exceptional. The chef, (straight from France) delivered what could only ever be executed by a French master. The farm to table ingredients emphasized the classic technique and creativity in the best way possible. The generosity of the owners and kindness of the staff was simply icing on the perfectly French cake.
A must-stop for anyone visiting Montana.

We went to Oddfellows for a birthday dinner and sat at the Chef's table in a private room and the service and food was amazing. I highly recommend the restaurant. On the other hand the Inn definitely needs quite a bit of improvement as does the ground of the farm. Entire place is in desperate need of landscaping and the livestock area's need to be update and cleaned up. The price point on all fronts is quite high and the owners need to bring the facilities up to the level of the price point.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend getaway; the Staff were amazing. Our bed was comfortable and the shared bathroom was clean and fully stocked. Breakfast was included and was delicious with home made quiche and a variety of different choices. We decided to eat brunch at the in-house restaurant “Maison” on Sunday morning as we unfortunately missed the dinner on Friday night. We wanted to try their highly rated restaurant before we left and it did not disappoint. It was truly outstanding.
Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We spent one day and one night at the tiny house at Oddfellow Inn and Farm. To say the staff here - particularly Sal - went above and beyond is an understatement. We had the Maison tasting menu (delicious) at a private picnic table by the duck pond and a fire pit after a private farm tour of the eclectic and personality-filled Oddfellow animals & beautiful garden. In the morning, we picked up our coffee and delicious farm fresh breakfast by a roaring fire in the dining room and roamed the property at sunrise, visiting all the animals one last time.

I was just there this past Saturday night. Drinks on the lovely front terrace with a fire in the brazier with another couple to celebrate a birthday. The dining room experience (thank you, Chris!) was perfect. We had a splendid dinner -- I loved the steak au poivre and the wine list is sophisticated. Our room at the inn was one with seven windows on the first floor and had high quality bedding (think Anthropologie) and a wonderfully comfy mattress.
Between drinks and dinner I wandered out to visit with the animals at the farm and made friends with Ziggy the piggy (an adorable grey shaggy-haired love) and a spectacularly feathered rooster.
I will definitely be coming back and bringing visitors along. Totally recommend!

Absolutely marvellous hospitality by Paul and Jared with their dedicated team. Arrived in the afternoon and was greeted by ever cheerful Paul who showed us the room and met every request by our family. We had a special request for laundry to be done as we were travelling in states for almost 2 weeks now. The three bedroom suite was clean and tastefully designed. The living room area was a comfortable area for the family to hang out.
Dinner was a sumptuous affair as we tried almost everything we could in the menu. Pork ribs, half chicken and beef. Everything was well prepared and taste was on point. Special shout out to Will who prepared our welcome drink with a huge smile on his face. Always heartwarming to receive such great hospitality in a place far from home. Kudos to such a great establishment managed by an awesome team.

Oddfellow Inn is an interesting and unusual place. It was built as the Montana IOOF old age home, now being run as a hotel. We were extremely comfortable. Surrounding the Inn is a farmyard with geese, ducks, turkeys, a donkey . . . fun to watch! But the most exciting thing about this place is their new restaurant. It was just getting started during summer 2020—we were lucky enough to be there for one of the experimental dinners. The restaurant name is "Maison." The food is a notch above what normally counts as "fine dining" on Tripadvisor—it is very ambitious, and (the evening we were there) entirely successful. If they can make a go of this, it will be the new standard of haute cuisine in Montana.

Pros: Quaint Inn on a farm. We loved the animals, even the rooster that woke us up at 5 a.m. Room itself was clean and cozy. WIFI worked good.
Cons: We did not see one staff member the entire 2 nights we were there. We text and called the numbers given and no answers. No air conditioning (Helena can get hot during the day). Be aware that only one room has its own bathroom. We went to take a shower the first night and only one towel left in the shared bathroom. Waited until the next morning and still only one towel. That next evening there were towels but a bar of soap in the shower with hair on it. There are a lot of young adults in the Inn on the 3rd floor. We spoke to one and she said she was allowed to live there for free but did not work there, huh?? We pay for each night and she lives for free. Honestly we could have gone to hotel and stayed overnight and nobody would have known. Beware that breakfast is only continental.
Overall: If you want a quaint place to stay with character and do not need a staff for anything, it can be a good place to stay.

I apologize about your negative experience. We do take all of your feedback into consideration. We are a working farm therefore there are animals on the farm that can be noisy at times and that is beyond our control. We have volunteers on the farm that are required to do a minimum of 20 hours a week, so they do live for free but they also work for free. This is an experience far different than a hotel for sure. We have combatted the staff shortage the best we can and it is getting better over time. We hope to correct any negative experiences and make our Inn better for all guests to come and enjoy.

Very comfortable bed, good temperature in the room well furnished bathroom very clean. I wish there was a chair in my room. Very nice breakfast. I had a hard time getting there the first day and out of there the second day due to some problem with the train blocking the road but then I learned a way around the tracks
