Absolutely fell in love with Montana thanks to this hotel. The charm of this place was just exactly what I wanted for our vacation to Big Sky. The room was very large and cabin like, with an amazing wood burning fireplace which we used every night. They had the coziest throw blanket that I loved using on the couch in front of the fire. Breakfast was included, which was an upgraded continental inclusive of bacon, scrambled eggs and potatoes. One morning was slow and the chef cooked us made to order omelets! The hot tub with the fireplace was also very nice - especially since the staff will start a fire for you if you let them know you’re heading out there. We ate dinner one night in the restaurant, which was on the pricey side but very good. I would highly encourage you to stay here on a trip to Big Sky, it is only about 15-20 mins off mountain and is so cozy and charming!

Wonderful, highlight of our road trip. Came in winter, service was great, heated floors in bathroom, in-room fireplace with wood provided, food at the restaurant was the best steak we had in Montana! Good wifi, gorgeous view of the river from the back porch. Just a great little getaway. Highly recommended.

We stayed at The Rainbow Ranch Lodge in late October and it was absolutely beautiful. You can't go wrong with this place. All the rooms are very lovely with fireplaces, nice bathrooms (awesome showerheads) and decks that face the Gallatin River. Even though we were there during several downpours of snow, we still managed to go on a couple spectacular hikes right out our back door. The Lodge even gave us Bear spray for the trek. The Rainbow Ranch also has a very good restaurant where we had the majority of our meals. Excellent!. The staff is also very nice and accommodating. We look forward to a return visit.

This place could easily be a true gem, but there are some significant failures that ruins everything.

Pros: the place is located within 1 hour drive from west Yellowstone entrance and 20 minutes drive to Big Sky ski resort. Both roads are scenic.
You are waking up and could listen to the birds songs. All rooms are facing the forest not the road.
The road is super close and you hear it, but it’s not a big deal.
The whole idea of the place is perfect.
Some of the staff is really doing 1000% of their job

Cons: housecleaning really ruins the place- when you do not do the proper cleaning for a certain period of time the dust destroys furniture, the wash basin is no longer white etc.
one day the housecleaning took dirty towels from my bathroom and place them on the sofa on top of some of my clean clothes !!!!

I’ve also experienced strange situation with overbooking - I’ve made a reservation on the web site, moreover my credit card was immediately charged for the full payment. And after two days I’ve received an “interesting” email saying that “we are sorry but the room that I’ve booked is not available”. When I called the property a very ignorant lady told me that it’s not the lodge problem it’s the fault of some service provider that they are using for the booking process. And zero attempt to either apologize or help.

And March is one of the highest seasons, all hotels are full in the proximity of Big Sky.

Finally one of the managers a very nice person resolved the issue, also applied some discount as an apology. But anyway, how in the first place all these could happened? And that manual management doesn’t do good for any company/ resort, since the processes should work.

If the place will resolve the staff/ housekeeping/ booking issues the place would be a gem

Hello Tatiana, It was really wonderful hosting you on your skiing getaway in Big Sky, Montana. I really enjoyed interacting with you and I am so sorry you faced challenges while reserving the room. We definitely hope the discount that we applied made up for the miscommunication. Having a clean room is the foundational component of having an enjoyable stay and it seems like the housekeeping team missed the mark. We will elevate this issue to management right away. Thank you again for joining us and please reach out directly if there is anything else that you would like to discuss. (emily@rainbowranchbigsky.com)

We were really looking forward to celebrating a 50th birthday at rainbow ranch, and turned out to be a total miss for this family. This is not a $266 plus tax room a night. The service and management did not live up to our expectations. Here are the pros and cons.

Pros:
1. The area is beautiful
2. The hot tub with fireplace
3.

Cons:
1:The room is very underwhelming, the room had appeared to not have been cleaned prior to our arrival. The carpet was stained in many areas and very musty. Their was garbage on the floor and on nightstand. The sheets on the bed were inside out. The coffee maker was no way useable and no cups to make coffee or cream and sugar.
2. The bathroom was absolutely horrendous. There was gum behind the toilet the sink, and jetted tub were absolutely disgusting. Mold everywhere..I feel I need to get a tetanus shot after using that bathroom.
4. There were two employees loudly arguing and swearing for over a half hour outside our room. I thought it was going to get physical at one point.
5. The restaurant wild caddis’ online menu is not the menu they actually have. We were seated for dinner and heard the waitress continuously apologizing for long wait time and orders not right. We waited 30 minutes with no greeting and got up and left.
6. Breakfast was standard hotel fare, nothing special… the construction workers and their kids were sitting at the main tables eating breakfast before they went to work as the guest had to sit in the bar area for breakfast…
6. We asked for a “refresh” on our room after two days and that consisted of two rolls of toilet paper and fresh towels thrown on the bed. No cleaning, no nothing..

The management seemed disengaged and uninterested in rectifying any of the issues. We expected 4 star resort and service and got a two star motel with terrible service. The bathroom was a big deal… take your money elsewhere…

We made reservations for the $60/person "All you can eat crab feast." The venue was a large tent outdoors. It was cold. It seemed to get progressively colder as the evening wore on. Friends we saw there said the same thing. The crab was OK. The shrimp was happy hour peel and eat shrimp. The baron of beef looked delicious but was tough and hard to cut. The young man who served our wine needs to be trained in presentation, allowing the guest to taste it, etc. No provision was made for cleaning your hands after the messy business of eating crab and shrimp with your hands. Our waitress was very nice and found a damp cloth for us. The $60 would have been better spent in the dining room.

Internet magic = very disappointed reality. We checked in at 4:00 and there was no staff in the lobby. Finally we found a worker who stated she was the accounting manager, and her reply was “Well you know COVID” “ House keepers called out sick” while waiting 45 minutes to get our keys to a clean room, I walked around the property, just seemed like they shoved all the mess from the restaurant, bar, and outside venue into corners, nothing seemed put away.
Also according to the website/internet the Rainbow lodge states we can book your experiences or recommend activities, we asked another female front desk clerk about snowshoeing and dogsledding, and her reply was let me check Google. We could have done that ourselves. We don’t know the area and we would like local advice.
We entered the room, the wood floors were splitting and major water damage near the bathtub. The worker stated that the heat comes up from the ground. Hence the split, dangerous wood. The room was filthy. Blood on the comforter, floors were black with dirt. My wife actually purchased a swifter mop to clean the floors the next morning.
. The fire place did not work properly, for a few minutes the smoke went up the chimney, then about every 10 minutes the smoke came back into the room. We were suppose to be here for 3 nights.
We decided to go to dinner not on property , as walking out of the room we noticed many smudges, slime on the front door, looked like the last guest had a dog, cigarette butts on the porch, and once again not cleaned, then we could not lock the door with the key. We followed the instructions for the key/lock and fire place no success.
Got back from dinner and I went to take a shower, rain down faucet with 1/4 of the holes working, hair in the drain, and shampoo case about to fall off the wall. Not to mention that there was no toilet paper holder or dispenser, so $325 a night u have to reach around the toilet to get paper.

I can imagine that 5 years ago it was a beautiful clean room and property.

With that being said, we left the property the next morning, did not stay for the next 2 nights.

The Rainbow Ranch did give us a full refund. We would have loved to stay at this property based on the internet pictures and experience. Customer service and housekeeping could have fixed this problem.

We got married here years ago, so I have a soft spot for this place, but it has really gone off the rails recently. We stayed in a pondside deluxe room that was in dire need of some maintenance. Curtains falling off the rod, broken and filthy jetted tub, holes in the shower tiles. The room wasn’t properly cleaned, with dust everywhere. We asked for a crib ahead of time but housekeeping forgot it, so the girl at reception brought one later. However, she didn’t offer to set it up or bring sheets. She clearly didn’t know any better, so that seems like a management issue and simply poor service for an expensive stay.

Also, not to quibble, but right next to the main entrance is, I think, a kitchen entrance where cooks come out for their smoke breaks. They hang out there and leave their lighters and butts right where guests come in. I don’t need some Downton Abbey charade, but this is not a good look.

Dinner was better, but exorbitantly pricey with small portions. We had some great cocktails, wonderful scallops, and the rest was ok.

Breakfast was just depressing. What was there (eggs, bacon, potatoes) was good, but it seemed so spartan and strange (like the Thomas bagels still in their grocery store bag?). The one server was working hard but couldn’t keep up alone.

Again, the staff was polite and seemed like they were trying, but this is a lodge that proclaims, and charges for, a certain level of service. Management is asleep at the wheel, or at the least, really struggling to come out of the COVID slump. I sincerely hope they can succeed!

I can’t speak to the rooms that have been remodeled but, the room we were in, Grizzly Bear, was definitely 2star quality. The blinds are falling off the windows, the tub was filthy and the handle for the shower came off in your hand. It was so bad that, had we been there for more than the 8 hours we spent there, I would have asked to be moved.

The restaurant has an impressive wine list and wine prices are reasonable. I was flabbergasted that the “special” fish entree (literally a 2”x2” square of bass) later was found to have a $54 price tag. Beware!!

For the amount of money we spent to stay here, it was not worth it. We arrived well after the check in time, where there was no one at the reception desk to greet us. another couple was also waiting and said they had gone to find someone, we waited another 30 minutes for someone to come who took our name and then disappeared again for another 20 minutes before coming back to tell us our room was ready. We stayed in a riverside room, the room it self was fine but there was trash left on the porch outside from a previous guest and the bathroom is in dire need of a renovation. The bath/shower was very dirty looking, the towels also looked dirty, honestly I didn’t even want to take a shower in there, even after 13 hours of hiking. There was also bugs in our bathroom coming up from the sink. We had dinner at the hotel one night, our drinks were comp’d because we waited so long for all of our food which was nice. The continental breakfast was ok too. Honestly the best part of the hotel was the hot tub, sitting out there at night was nice. It seems that this hotel is more interested in providing wedding services than being a boutique hotel. We were very excited to stay here based off of seeing pictures on Instagram and it turned out to be a big disappointment. Unfortunately we would probably NOT stay here again

it's about 45 minutes to the West Yellowstone entrance an another hour or so depending on how frequently you stop. In my opinion, Old Faithful is overrated and over built. in the park, I prefer the northeast portion of the park for beauty and wildlife. Regardless, you'll have a good time.
