Nestled near Glacier Park, Glacier Park Lodge captivates many with its historic allure and scenic vistas, though some visitors suggest its rooms and amenities are due for an update, pointing out the basic nature of the accommodations and the occasional noise. While the lodge's atmosphere, characterized by a lively lobby and live music, is frequently lauded, opinions on service and cleanliness vary, with some guests highlighting the need for improvements.
Despite its charm, reviewers warn that the lodge's pricing may not align with the value offered.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed for a couple of nights and it’s a very breathtaking resort once you go inside as it was built over 100 years ago. The large log pillars is similar to the Old Faithful Hotel at Yellowstone. If you take Amtrak, just get off the East Glacier station and you walk there in five minutes at the most. It’s about a 45 minute or so drive to the St Mary’s entrance (much shorter if you want to go to Two Medicine). If you are taking the Red Bus Tour for the day, it starts here so that’s a huge plus. The people we spoke to at the front desk and restaurant were very friendly. The room itself is pretty roomy, and we had a ‘shared balcony’. I assumed that meant we shared it with the people next door, but it turned out it was shared with all of the people on our side of the floor. Our side was unfortunately not facing the park, so the views were nothing special and we came out multiple times and nobody else was ever there, except for the pigeons that became annoying at times. I thought there was supposed to be an outside pool, but looks like it got torn up.
As for the room, there were some annoyances. I assumed since it was an old hotel, there wouldn’t be many outlets so I brought a power adapter. I was surprised to see that there were no three prong outlets in the entire room (can’t say I’ve ever seen that before) and there was only one in the bathroom so had to use that. Also, they still use old fashioned keys and that’s a security risk and with the money that’s pouring in, they really need to upgrade to keycards. Finally, there wasn’t even peepholes but I guess you can use the chain to check and see who’s at the door.
The biggest gripe is they really need figured out is to get their wireless fixed. I wasn’t trying to download movies or do video calls, just be able to send basic text messages and a picture or two (I had Verizon and only got a bar typically). There were two wireless networks, but they constantly dropped and you would be lucky to get 10 minutes in a row before it just fell off. Even worse, one of the networks was clearly faster and most of the time it wasn’t even an option and when you selected the other one, it would literally 5/10 minutes for it to connect and it was the same for my wife’s device as well.
For the main restaurant, they have a breakfast buffet that’s adequate and the dinner we had was good, but the menu itself is limited and was pricey because they know they have you. The server at dinner even recommended that we go into the East Glacier area (since it’s walkable) and try the Mexican restaurant if we are staying more than one night.
Overall, it was a good experience and if you are not able to get lodging in the park itself, this would be your next best option.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Glacier Park Lodge! We really appreciate the feedback that you have provided for us. We do our best in keeping the historical feel to our Lodge. With things like key cards, it will take away from that historic feel, as no lodges had that several years ago. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and we hope to see you again in the future! Megan J Management Glacier Park Lodge

We stayed for one night on Labor Day, after hiking and doing the boat tour at Two Medicine lake. This lodge is lovely with a gracious ambiance. Staff was friendly and helpful. The gift shop was very nice. The Dining room was open for sit down meals and we had dinner and breakfast. The salmon and sour strawberry salad at dinner were very tasty, along with the huckleberry ice cream. The hiker's breakfast (granola, fruit, yoghurt) and avocado toast was also very good. In contrast to the take out options offered in the in park Xanterra hotels, this lodge's food offerings and service were remarkable. Wifi was available in the main lodge and worked best in the dining room. We did not have wifi in our Great Northern room.
We stayed in the "top of the line" Great Northern renovated King deluxe room. The room was on the ground floor of the Great Northern wing, only a few steps onto the porch of the building from the back parking lot. The room was spacious, with a nonfunctional fireplace, nice renovated bathroom, comfortable king bed, and view of the golf course and front lawn from the large balcony. The room was very clean. But there was no closet, only some hooks on the wall, and the front door had a gap of about 3-4" from the floor which we closed with a provided pad. The walls were thin and we could hear the plumbing running and steps from the guests upstairs.
This lodge offers a variety of room types, from budget to higher end which explains the diverse reviews and comments. I read all the mixed reviews and decided that I wanted to maximize our enjoyment of the facilities so opted to pay for the better room. The room did not disappoint, but it came with a big price tag. Of note, we cancelled our GNP trip last year due to covid, and did not decide to visit in 2021 until February. I made reservations for what was available at the time, then kept checking and upgrading as better rooms became available. I'm glad we splurged for this trip since this is the first trip we've done in nearly 2 years.

This was the only park lodge that had rooms available in mid June. We had a double queen with a shared balcony facing west, looking at the beautiful peaks in the park.
Rooms are very rustic, with small bathrooms and showers as most lodges are. The main floor has a huge stone fireplace with numerous chairs and couches that offer a perfect spot to relax. There is a beautiful grand piano that a young woman played & serenaded the room on. It was the highlight of our visit. The disappointment was eating dinner in the large dining room. Our server was an older, very friendly man but we waited almost an hour and a half for our dinners to come out. Thank goodness the salads came promptly. Food was extremely pricey and we would eat in the lunch cafe next time.

We travel in a group of four couples. Our reservations were made over a year in advance after we had to cancel our annual hiking trip in Glacier due to COVID last year. Glacier Park Collection had our room deposits and requested shared balconies along with being near each other from the time the reservations were made. Upon arrival, we were given rooms scattered all over the hotel. One of the rooms had a connecting door that wouldn’t close and was completely dirty.
We got a tiny room with a tiny, not connected to anything balcony. The hotel is receiving well over $4,000 in revenue but failed to deliver what they promised.
We know that historic hotels have small rooms, tiny shower stalls but we expected clean rooms and location requests to be honored. They told us they could be at time of booking but now the story has changed.

I enjoy experiencing rustic atmospheres and locations like the lodge. But when you pay $300 dollars for a hotel room you have an expectation for a clean room, with enough space and a large enough bed, and a low noise level that will ensure a quiet nights sleep. Unfortunately for us, none of those things came from our $300 room. Bad nights sleep.

The hotel is antiquated. It is 20 miles from the east entrance to glacier and shuttle there costs $30 per person. Electric outlets in the room are antique and do not work. A computer can only be charge in the bathroom which has the only grounded plug..
Rooms are very basic with no TV and basic no frills mattress. Restaurant is adequate. Wifi is slow but free. Without a car there is no access to hiking or transportation to any of the other entrances to the park car rental is over $200/day. The town of East Glacier is very depressed with most businesses closed.
Do not come here without your own means of transportation and expect a very basic accomodation.

So our check-in experience was horrible, but that's not what was upsetting. What I was very angry about is that we purchased a "king suite" with a sitting room and bedroom as advertised on the website. It stated it had a deluxe bathroom. Not at all what we got and definite!y not worth $300+ per night. (I wish this form would let me post pictures as it is astonishing.) What we got was a room with a bed and two chairs on the side. The bathroom shower was so small you couldn't turn around in it. No room to put your shampoo etc. (I think it was a 30" x 30" stall). The sink was a tiny sink that you would find in an elementary school. No countertop at all. The soap dispenser that was mounted to the shower wall was on the floor. Likely because you can't move in there without knocking it down. The door to the bathroom was cracking and didn't open or shut well. Caulking was peeling everywhere. It was disgusting.
The door to the porch was almost impossible to open because the handle is broken, but you had to pry it open because the room had no air conditioning. It was very hot in the room and they give you a box fan as the only cooling mechanism.
Regarding check-in. We arrived early on the Amtrak train. We asked if we could check in early and they said it wasn't ready yet but they were working on it and we could check back shortly. It would definitely be ready by check in time at 3:00. We would periodically check in and it were always being to!d that the management was inspecting it so not quite yet. We were to!d this for hours. So when 3:00 came we tried to check in. We were told it wasn't ready and management was inspecting it. We didn't get our room until about 4:00. I asked the manager why our room wasn't ready on time when she knew we had been there for 5 hours and she just said sorry and offered a free dessert at the restaurant - really???
The two stars is for the one positive about this lodge. The people who work there are fabulous. Great, friendly staff especially in the restaurant and bar.
If you do stay here, don't pay to upgrade. There really isn't any benefits for the extra cost and it is definitely no Marriott.

1. Get better Wifi. Seriously!!
2. Get your pool fixed.
3. Fix the portable fans in the rooms. Broken and barely working.
4. Train your waitresses to be not rude when talking to people and if it's not too much to ask, please don't dip your fingers in our glasses of water. Our first time inside your restaurant and we got almost shouted at for no reason. On asking, apparently, the restaurant has never been so busy on a holiday. (This place was half empty!!)
5. On arrival, our room's shampoo, body wash and lotion etc. bottles were empty!

In order to stay at this lodge, you have to pay a $97 fee with the park service in addition to your room charges. For us, that averaged a $412 stay PER NIGHT. This is NOT a good value for the money as the hotel is very old, the rooms are plain, the floors slanted and uneven and the dining options on the property are very limited and plain. Be aware also that entrance into the park is highly limited, you have to obtain a Sun Road Pass which is very hard to do. Thus we could only enter the park before 6 am or after 5 pm. Also, the lodge is a 40 minute drive from the Glacier park entrance. Had we known all this beforehand, we would have stayed elsewhere.

So sad to see a lovely historical property being turned into a scam for tourists desperately looking for a bed around the overpopulated glacier park. No air conditioning, squeaky beds, amtrak size sinks, century old toilet, Guantanamo size showers, waiting lines for dinner and breakfast. No elevator, no working ice machine. The rooms are convent size. Ours had a shared balcony with direct view of neighbors beds. The place would be ok as a youth hostel at 30 dollars a night. Not at 321 dollars a night. This morning I asked for two hard boiled eggs but was told there was no capacity in the kitchen to provide that service. I forgot: the walls are so thin that you will hear the neighbors conversations, their alarm clock when they get up to try to squeeze in the park before the 7 am deadline when tickets are required. You will wake up when the neighbor opens or closes its door or just walks down the squeaky and bouncy corridors. And then remember you are close to the railway tracks with no sound insulation: Long merchandise trains run in the middle of the night. The only saving grace is a nice, almost apologetic, service. To the owner: renovate or get into another business. This historical site deserves better, and so do the visitors that would expect so much better for the price they paid. One star because we expected so much more.

Hi.
Glacier Park Lodge offers shuttle services to various areas around the park. The lodge features a 9-hole golf course with club rentals available. During the day, guests can enjoy tours of the historic hotel and its garden. In the evenings, the lodge offers activities such as bingo, trivia, and live music in the main lobby. Upon arrival, visit the concierge desk for assistance in planning your activities during your stay.
No there are no coffee makers much of anywhere around the park! But inside the huge lobby area there is a "kiosk" that sells different types of coffee drinks beginning around 6 AM. The small drip coffee was I think $3.50.
Pretty limited - small market nearby that makes sandwiches and have some essentials - can't remember if there was beer there. If driving, best to have "essentials" before arriving.
Browning is the nearest town - sorry I couldn't help more.
I am going this week and was informed that that normal shuttle service is not running because of Covid. I had to rent a car from Dollar Car across the street from Glacier Lodge. The Going to the Sun Road Tour is still on. I don't think the road is open yet from east to west for me but you may have more options in July.
