So I stayed here during the shoulder season after big sky was closed, but before the summer season started. As others have mentioned it’s conveniently located in downtown Bozeman, but if you want parking there is none onsite. The whole setup is built into a basement so no windows available. The ventilation is poor there are fans provided at each bed. One big con with this place is there was one communal bathroom which I could see problems if this place is full up. The walls are on the thin side my room was next to one of the communal rooms and there was a late night crowd that liked to party well into the early morning.
As for using this base for a ski trip I had to get to the Walmart to catch the skyline express bus to big sky since I was doing this during the shoulder reason I had to walk 1.5 miles to the stop. I was told that the streamline bus service has a stop at the Walmart and will run earlier in the winter.

Alison is the best! Give her a raise. 🙂 She talked me through being lost and waited for me outside until I arrived. The hostel is clean and very conveniently located on Main Street. Parking is as described on the website. Good value and friendly people.

The hostel is located in the middle of downtown Bozeman. Easy to park from few blocks away. They provided clean linen, access to tv room, library, and kitchen.
The only problem, there were 4-5 unnecessary live in staff, and occasionally they used kitchen and hang out there in the night time, talk too loud, laughing like child. We customers had to wait for their meal finished. How come the staff hanging around than customers, and using kitchen all the time?

There was no private room available during our time in Bozeman so my partner and I stayed in a 3 bed room having purchased 2 out of the 3 beds. This is literally the dirtiest hostel we have each ever stayed in (we have both stayed in multiple hostels internationally) and due to this we only stayed 1 out of our initial 3 nights we had booked as the hostel was the only available option.

Our sheets were stained (brown and yellow), my pillow was wet (???) and our other pillow was a filthy yellow/brown colour like it hadn’t been replaced in years, there is no ventilation in the room at all and to top that all off the guy in our room snored non-stop for the entire night. There’s literally no privacy in the female showers and it didn’t look like it has been cleaned in a while, frankly the entire hostel looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in well over what I’d consider to be a “healthy” amount of time given the frequency of guests coming and going.

The refund for the 3rd night still hasn’t been paid to me and I was unable to get a refund on the 2nd night not stayed due to their refund policy, apparently I needed to cancel before 3pm however their staffed office opens at 3pm? Hence why I attended at 3pm? Totally screwed either way and we were beyond happy to leave, even at a financial loss. We 100% expected better for Downtown Bozeman.

This hostel is in a basement. It was hot and there is no AC, just a small fan provided that had 2 inches a dust on it! You have to walk a mile for the bathrooms/shower. You have to walk past everyone who is gathered in the kitchen which is right beside in front of the bathroom. I did not feel comfortable walking out in my pj's so I just put my reg clothes on until I made it back to my room. There are signs that state no loud talking before 8a.m. Well..........slamming doors and moving furniture around is A-ok I guess! And some guy started playing on the grand piano around 9a.m! The place is in a great area, but it ends there! p.s. take your own bath cloths, they do not provide any at all!

Highly recommended! Exceeded expectations!

Here you'll meet the most personable, sincere manager, Chris, leading his team in customer excellence! To be honest, I had reservations staying in a hostel with others in strangers in my bedroom and never being exposed to dorm-living. I was beyond impressed how at ease and comfortable I immediately felt.

I stayed in a co-ed room for 6 that was equipped with individual privacy screens, charging stations, and lockers for each individual. The overall vibe of the hostel was warmth and friendliness, even among all the guests I had met. The way Chris ensures such a welcoming, safe, positive environment among people from all walks of life is beyond me. I just feel blessed bring able to experience such a genuinely wholesome stay.

Let me add, even before I arrived on-site, I bombarded the staff with many, many questions. They pleasantly addressed each one, making sure to set my mind at ease. They even received packages for me so I didn't have to coordinate picking up my packages elsewhere. If red carpet level concierge service is even a thing at hostels, Treasure State Hostel is the gold standard to model after.

Although my stay was awhile back, since I left, I have continued to brag to everyone about how affordable travel and exploration can be in Bozeman, MT. I tell them not to bother with looking up any other accommodation options, just book directly with Treasure State Hostel. I promised they'd be very pleased and the savings will allow them to adventure longer and more frequently!

Sincerely thank you, Chris and the wonderful team!

An alright place to stay that is in the heart of Bozeman. However, contrary to the description which states that there is onsite parking, there is NOT onsite parking except at a garage across the street which is $22 a day or parking on the street in a spot that is not designated as 2 hours maximum. I called the hostel and was told that there is a parking lot a few blocks up on Lamme St. Well Lamme St is four blocks away #1, and #2 there is no parking lot on that street per the City Parking Commission. Considering the over priced room and the parking situation, I would not stay here again.

I am a well seasoned traveler, nationally and internationally. I’ve stayed in *a lot* of hostels. This is by far the worst. It’s in a basement, run by irresponsible children, it lacks any semblance of decor and charm. It’s dirty. Worst of all, the mattress is all wire, it sinks in. It is literally the worst mattress I have ever experienced anywhere. I was flabbergasted that they would expect anyone to sleep on something like this. When I brought this to the attention of staff and said I could not stay here, the staff attempted to gaslight me, saying nothing was wrong with the mattress. He came to look at it in the room and ran his hands over it like he was petting a cat, not pushing down. He treated me like a “complainer”. Let me be clear, I am customer paying for a place to sleep who expects reasonable “hostel like” accommodations. I don’t “complain” and choose to stay elsewhere for any other reason than the accommodations are well under par—to the point of unreasonable. Attempting to stay here cost me money. I received a refund that wasn’t for the full amount and had to find accommodations last minute with less options and higher prices. This is the only negative review I have ever given for any hostel.

This hostel could use some serious TLC. There is no air flow after you walk down the entry stairs. The carpeting is old and filthy, and the whole place smells like mildew and marijuana. Sleeping is basically out of the question because the walls are paper thin, allowing the sound of every snore and squeaky box spring to travel into your ears. The showers have hairballs, and the fan in my room was broken. About the only good thing was that my sheets seemed to have been recently washed.

Scenario: I'm here in Bozeman. I booked a hostel several months ago for this location. Check in starts at 3. I arrive at 2:52 and look for the office to check in. I run into a lady in the hall and I ask her where the office is and she goes "I am the office." Her tone makes my face go...🤔.. she then informs me that she doesn't do anything before 3. I say okay and ask her if there is parking other than the street parking. Walking away she goes "there's a deck. It's $7." Where is this deck? I wouldn't know because she walked away before I can finish ask her.
Fast forward a few minutes as I went back to my car to get my bags. It's only 2:58 so I stop at a chair across from the door and put my bags down. She says with same tone as before "can I help you?" Now pause... this girl knows I am there to check in. She knows because I told her 6 minutes ago and she told me she wasn't checking people in. I said "are you able to help me?" From there things escalate with the quickness. She tells me that the hostel isn't the place for me because people like me are not welcome there and that the hostel doesn't need my business and she is cancelling my reservation. She asks for my name and tells me that I have to leave. I ask if my deposit will be returned and she says no and that I need to leave. She then says "I suggest you fix your attitude. People like you don't do well around here. Just so you know you're about to pay a lot more for a hotel." When I asked if there was someone else that I could speak to she said she was the only one there.
Luckily Priceline express deal came through. I am thankful that I have my wits about me and was able to proceed accordingly to ensure my safety while here. I'm not going to lie, I shed a few tears because I am alone up here and for a brief moment had no where to stay. Imagine being thousands of miles from home and in a strange place and told that you are not welcome. I'm not going to call this racism because I don't know enough about her but what I will call this is bad customer service. In no way do I think a person like this should be welcoming travelers. What if I didn't have money to get a hotel. Was she expecting me to sleep on the street. She didn't know if I have a car to get anywhere. What she did was risk my safety. I'm a single female traveler in a strange place where no one knows me and she threw me out on the street.
Now I already wrote a review on Facebook and I suggest that you go and read her response. If she has people that can back up her claims then I would like to see them. She called me names and attacked my character. I have stayed in all kinds of places all over this country. Montana is my 37th state. I stayed in a hostel the night before. I visited several local businesses in town. No one can say that I am a hostile, atrocious, elitist person yet this is what I am being accused of. Don't support a person like this who attack customers online. At the very least this place is run by a person who acts unprofessional on several instances.
