This hotel is in the center of billings and it did not disappoint us from beginning to end. The lobby is beautiful, the front desk staff nice and fast. The hotel room was very clean and modern. The bed absolutely comfortable and big. Get breakfast at their place (Bernies diner), it will not disappoint you. This was one of the best hotels we stayed in in the US and this for a very affordable price (mind you, on the eastcoast you pay 50% more just to stay in an Inn or Motel). Whenever we come back to Billings we will definitely stay here!

I returned to The Northern Hotel for Thanksgiving week this year and was very happy I chose this splurge. The front desk showed me a couple rooms on the highest floor and I chose room 1004. The evening lighting in my room was lovely and the morning views outside the large south and east facing windows were incredible. I hung out at the Ten bar two evenings and got excellent craft cocktails from the talented mixologist. Other times I went to the great coffee shops and restaurants a short walk away from the Northern.
There were a couple small service glitches but the beds are still super comfortable, the room cleaners did an excellent job, and the parking valets were very convenient. They are not the cheapest but The Northern is clearly the best hotel in Billings. I am very happy about my stay. I'll be back.

Northern Hotel is a great place to stay. I had requested an early check in and was very pleased to find that our room was ready when we arrived. We chose to self park, which was easy, but in retrospect we should have used the free valet service since all of the employees were helpful, friendly and efficient. We only spent one night so we booked a standard king room and it was very comfortable. There was plenty of space for toiletries and belongings and a large safe. The bathrobes were soft and there were lots of towels. I would have liked a makeup mirror, however the bathroom was well lit, so it wasn’t strictly necessary, though a full length mirror would have been helpful. We were on the 6th floor so there was some traffic noise but not excessive. Don’t skip breakfast at Bernie’s Diner, the food is delicious and service was excellent.

This was our third trip to Billings and stay at the Northern Hotel, and while we have been long-time fans of it and it's cozy atmosphere, this last trip has left a bad mark for us and I am not sure if we'll be back.

The room and hotel were nice as always, but the first day after we checked in, I received a call from the hotel inquiring whether we had a pet in the room, advising that housekeeping noted scratches on the door and that I would have to pay a pet cleaning fee for having a dog in the room. Let me be clear, we did not have a dog in the room, I flew in from California with my tween daughter and checked in late at night, nor did I see any obvious damage in our room from someone having a dog. I explained that to the hotel staff over the phone, that we didn't have a dog in the room, that I had no idea what they were talking about, and although they insisted for a while that housekeeping wasn't wrong, she finally said she would look into it further but not to worry about it. Great, seemed really odd, but we went about our stay and I never heard anything further, until after I returned home and noted a separate $150 charge on my credit card from my stay. No receipt, no email, just the charge.

When I called to inquire about it, I was told by the hotel staff that it was a pet cleaning fee. Really? I DIDN'T HAVE A DOG IN MY ROOM! No manager was available to speak with me, but I was told that the housekeeping staff saw me with a dog in the hotel and there were scratches on the door. What?!?! Exactly what does it require me to do to show you I didn't have a dog there? I'm still waiting to hear from the manager as to whether the pet cleaning fee will be refunded, but I am no longer sure I want to return, where I can just be charged an extra $150 for having a pet in my room when I didn't. This is a small hotel with one working elevator at the moment, so it boggles my mind how exactly I would have been hiding a dog in my hotel room for a 3 night stay. I also took photos of the door and I really don't know what damage housekeeping saw. I truly hope this was an anomaly, since I've raved about the hotel to my friends for years but now feel uncomfortable returning.

Have stayed in this property in the past. No complaints. Connecting rooms, as requested, were clean, not luxurious, one bathroom. Restaurant was convenient and
decent. GM was kind enough when asked for some take out cups for tea, brought us cups, tea and fixings. Very considerate.

We booked a room for 4 people (2 adults and 2 children ) through what we thought was the hotel sight ( northern booking).
When we arrived after a 7 h drive we have been told that the room can accommodate only one extra bed and if we want a room with 2 Quines beds we should pay an extra 100 $. Needles to say that the same Quine bed in the site was only about 30 extra$, and similar rated hotels room in the area where much cheaper.
Our booking was made the same day we arrived I really don’t know how they wanted to accommodate 4 people in a room with just one Quine bed.
The additional bed they brought to our room was small and not comfortable at all!!! We are traveling in the northwest for 2 weeks now and it’s the first time we got such a disappointing room with such a disappointing approach.
We arrived at the hotel at 7 pm I don’t think that someone will take the 2 Quine beds today and asking from us 100$ extra for a room we have paid 300$ is a rubbery .

The Northern has an excellent location in the centre of downtown Billings (as does the neighbouring Doubletree). Free parking in the lot next door is a plus and although the down town is walkable, a rented car is key for seeing the area around Billings. The hotel is nice and has a diner, a bar and a well stocked small gift and convenience store on the ground floor. Oddly there are no full length mirrors anywhere - which is a problem if you’re getting dressed for an event as we were. While we were there, some kind of plumbing malfunction led to a very noticeable sewage smell in the lobby and second floor event area.
The front desk staff were mostly unhelpful and unfriendly - from reservations to check in to malfunctioning keycards to requests for restaurant recommendations. In contrast, the staff on the front door were all welcoming and ready to assist.

This hotel is pretty much at the top of the hotel market in Billings. Be forewarned, the rooms are on the small side. The hotel has both a breakfast/lunch restaurant - Bernie's and an upscale evening restaurant/bar known as '10'. If you fly into Billings, the hotel offers a very nice complimentary airport shuttle service. And if you drive, the hotel offers its own parking ramp adjacent to the hotel.

Don't get me wrong, this is a really nice hotel... but, a shower that does not work is unpleasant. And when paying near;y $400 for a two night stay one should expect something as basic as the shower to work.

Be prepared from a long wait to get breakfast in Bernie's as seating has been reduced due to Covid distancing.

There are a number of good restaurants within one block of this hotel. A wine bar, steak house, Irish pub are just a couple immediately to mind.

Now if they could just get the problem with the shower fixed!

Just an incredible experience from the staff to the room. A doorman on site 24/7 and free airport transport are just some of the perks. Older hotel but the rooms are completely updated and modern with an incredible bed. It has to be the best hotel in Billings hands down.

I recently stayed at this property for two nights. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and comfort of the room! Nicely appointed! I booked on Amazon and received two breakfast coupons for a great diner, Bernie's (just off the lobby), and a coupon for a free glass of wine in the restaurant. I also had dinner there, a wonderful Montana steak and iceberg wedge small salad (which was generous!)
One night I was working on a work project and called room service for coffee - which arrived in 15 minutes. Nice sized pot, cream, etc.
One morning I walked to the Art museum, which is also a little treasure. I had dinner at a local restaurant within 2 blocks of the hotel.
The only recommendation is a coffee maker in the room. But this is *very* minor compared to the value for the money. I booked 5 months out on Amazon and my room rate was only $120 a night, huge value!
Thanks for the hospitality!

They take your vehicle from you at the front door and move it to the parking garage. The only fee is the tip, which is up to you, of course, but everybody does. Not sure if they hold the key or give it back to you, but I would imagine that is your choice.
