I am not a big complainer, and I would be rating this place regardless of good or bad. I have to say that I am more disappointed with Stillwater than I am happy. The unit we are in is in desperate need of several things: updated furniture- the couch is so old and soft you are on the floor. The tables are worn and stained. The throw pillows need to be tossed. The kitchen, while the appliances are newish, it doesn't hide the fact that the cookware is old and needs replacement, the tea kettle is broken and there are not enough plates, etc for this unit. The bathrooms have had new showers installed however, the floors have not. The cleanliness of this unit I would rate a 1 out of 5. The floors in bathrooms and kitchen are filthy, the rugs need cleaning. I am actually shocked that with Covid, that this place was so dirty. I had to wipe down tables and counters upon arriving due to crumbs, drink rings and food splatter. Big Sky concierge did address a few items when we arrived-no dish towels, door light out....We have been to Big Sky at least a dozen times. We are Loyalty Club Members...I am embarrassed for Big Sky. I don't recommend this place to stay.

We stayed in a one bedroom loft with a great location and very close to Mountain Village. We are avid skiers so weren't home most days, but the unit is in need of significant upgrades including carpet, furniture, beds and kitchen supplies. The gas fireplace does not seem to be working properly either. The staff at Huntley were very helpful and accommodating and it was nice to have the lodge as another option for laundry, hot tub, etc. Again great location, but the interior does not seem to compare to some of the other developments.

We stayed in the Stillwater Condos last week. The location is excellent. The unit could use some updating. The furniture, cabinets and carpet all could use an update. The staff was wonderful and easy to work with. The toilet was leaking which we let the property know. I don't really have anything negative to add other than updating.

Book through the Big Sky Website! Our condo had a huge upstairs for the kids--a full bed, day bed, trundle, and sleeper sofa. The kids had their own smart TV, wifi, and bathroom. We had a queen size bedroom, sleeper sofa, smart TV, fireplace, kitchen, dining, bath, and balcony downstairs. There is a laundry facility onsite. You have access to the Huntley pool, hot tubs, sauna, fitness room, restaurants, and base camp is within walking distance.

We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Condo:
We stayed in a two bedroom first floor condo that also included a pull out couch. The bedroom on the first floor had two twin beds and a full bathroom. The Master bedroom was located at the garden level accessible by a spiral staircase and a folding closet door for privacy. The bathroom was very small with a toilet and a small shower unit with a glass door. The sink and mirror were in the bedroom and fortunately our unit had a hairdryer.
The decor of our unit was circa 1990's, but it was clean and very cozy (especially when the fireplace worked.) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MAKING SURE EVERYTHING WORKS IN YOUR UNIT BEFORE UNPACKING YOUR THINGS. These condos have private owners and consequently the quality of their decor, furniture, kitchen supplies and upkeep vary widely from unit to unit.
The outside light near the entrance to our unit door did not work. It was so dark at night that it was next to impossible to see where to insert the key. We called management to ask to have it fixed and two young guys showed up and were not able to fix it. Out of frustration, one of our friends took a light bulb out of one of the lamps inside our unit and fixed it himself. The towel rack was on the floor in the full bathroom when we arrived. The dimmer switch did not work. The ceiling light over the dining room table required someone tall to turn it on and off as the wall switch did not work. Some of the heaters did not work. The gas fireplace stopped working by the second day. Again, I can't emphasize this enough... If things are not working satisfactorily in the unit you are initially assigned to I would recommend asking to view other available units until you are able to find something acceptable. We called towards the end of our stay and requested that the above items were fixed to ensure that the next visitors would have a more pleasant experience than we had. Most of these items were fixed by the time we left. However this required a few cranky phone calls to management.

Kitchen:
Our kitchen was well stocked with silverware, plates, knives, coffee cups, glasses, a bottle opener, pots, pans, a crock pot, coffee pot, microwave, dish soap, paper towels etc. However you will need to bring your own food, condiments, and Ziplock bags for sandwiches. (Again the items in each kitchen will vary depending on who owns the condo you are assigned to.) We cooked in a couple of the nights and made our own lunches daily and carried them on the mountain in our Camel Hydration pack. This proved to save us a LOT of money instead of buying our lunches on the mountain and our lunches were definitely healthier too. :) Maid service is provided every other day. They will remove trash and bring fresh towels.

Restaurants/Convenience Store at Big Sky Resort:

There is a very small selection of restaurants. They are mediocre at best. Chet's Bar and Grill had a wonderful Asian salad at the Huntley Hotel. This was our favorite restaurant on the mountain. Whiskey Jacks at Mountain Village had decent pub food, but nothing to write home about. Summit Cafe had good coffee and homemade baked goods at Mountain Village. There is a small convenience store on the resort that had a limited selection of foods. They didn't have any raw meats for cooking, sandwich meat or salad ingredients. They mostly sold drinks, snacks and some frozen foods. The Meadow Village has several other restaurant options, but it requires taking the bus or driving to get there. We didn't make it there. We did our grocery shopping close to Bozeman and brought our groceries with us for the week. (Fortunately we were on a private group ski trip and our bus driver allowed us to do this. )

Apres Ski Activities: They are limited. Big Sky is not a party destination. It is a resort for real skiers that ski first to last chair!

Condo Accessibility to skiing:
This is definitely not a ski on/ski off condo. In order to get to the mountain you must hike up a fairly steep hill covered in snow and ice and cross a busy parking lot and then climb up many more snow/ice covered stairs before you reach the chairlifts. The stairs, roads and parking lots had some of the worst snow removal we had ever seen and we are from New England. We didn't see any evidence that sand or salt was used to to melt the snow. I recommend checking your skis each evening at the ski check near the lifts. It's about $12 per day. We were told that if you are really feeling lazy you can call one of the cowboys at the Huntley Hotel to pick you up and drop you off at the mountain.

Skiing: It was absolutely amazing! Lots of powder and challenging terrain. Bring your camera to capture the beauty!

Outdoor heated pool: Guests at the Stillwater condos are able to use the large outdoor heated pool at the Huntley Hotel. It was nice and hot. Their bathrooms include hairdryers and towels.

Excursions:

Dog Sledding:
We went dog sledding and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We took a tour with Spirit of the North Sled Dog adventures. http://www.huskypower.com/ They picked us up at the Huntley Hotel.
Sarah was our dogsled guide http://www.adventuresofsarahw.blogspot.com/ She is also a photographer and she took some amazing pictures of us. She comes highly recommended.

Yellowstone Tour:
We also explored Yellowstone via a snow coach via Yellowstone Snow Coach Tours http://allyellowstone.com/tours/snowcoach-tours.html I would recommend this option over snowmobiling tours as it is very cold outside in the winter and it allows your body to rest after some intense skiing. Furthermore you don't have to inhale the fumes of a bunch of snowmobiles in front of you. The concierge at the Huntley hotel can educate you on all of the options available.

WiFi: Our reception was pretty good, but not super fast.

Cell Phone Reception: I didn't have any problems getting a signal via my Verizon cell phone at the base of the mountain.

Communication on the Mountain:
If you are traveling with people with different skiing abilities I would recommend getting radios to communicate with your friends and family when on the mountain. The mountain is very large and it is easy to get separated and radios are more reliable than cell phones.

My stillwater room had a nice, HUGE fireplace and full kitchen. They give you plates, glasses, wine glasses, heinkle knives, the works ! the rooms were big enough for a 3-5 day trip. it's just like your typical 1 bedroom apartment. Maid cleans up every other day, seemingly. Not a big deal.

you get your own terrace that has enough space to fit 5-7 people without a problem. This complex is close enough to walk to the main ski lodge but not if you're taking ski equip with you. If you have stuff to take, drive yourself over...it's probably 1/4 - 1/2 mile walk but it's an uphill walk. you can drive up and park for free off to the side of the ski area or you can choose to pay for closer parking ($10/day). If you go to the free lot, there are shuttle's that swing by very often to pick you up and drop you off.

Big Sky Resort is the central clearing office through which me made our reservation for a week of skiing, so I’m a bit confused by its ranking of 6 out of 14 hotels in Big Sky. As far as I could tell, their office handles all reservations for all hotel rooms and condos on the mountain. The base village has two large hotels and several condo complexes, all seemingly managed by the Resort. We are a family of 4 with two teenage boys, both of whom are superb skiers. My husband and I are your basic conservative middle-aged skiers, looking to return home in one piece. We flew into Bozeman without a problem and took a reserved shuttle out to the mountain (about a 1 hour trip). We had been told not to bother to rent a car. That was a mistake, largely due to the almost total inaccessibility of restaurants and grocery stores. We were assigned to a condo in The Stillwater Condo Complex, which is owned and managed by the Huntley Lodge. Huntley is the older of the two hotels directly at the base of the mountain. Fortunately, we had friends who had rented a large condo at the Summit. The Stillwater Condos are in dire need of remodeling. Our condo, a one bedroom with a twin-bedded sleeping loft, had a kitchen and living room/dining area with TV and a partial view of the mountain (but mostly of other condos). The decorating was 1960’s discount motel style. The kitchen was poorly outfitted, which turned out not to matter much since grocery shopping was so challenging as to not be worthwhile. I purchased some basics at a grocery store on the way out by ordering ahead, not knowing that the condo didn’t even provide sugar, salt or paper products. I gratefully accepted hand-outs from our friend at The Summit. The cleaning service, for what it was worth (2 friendly young boys who obviously were there for the skiing), came on odd days and engaged in a half-hearted cleaning effort consistent with their age. At 8,000 feet, I didn’t enjoy the steep and sometimes icy 10 minute uphill hike to the base in ski boots with skis on my shoulder. My older son, who is in great shape, minded the roundtrip hike enough to take off his ski boots for lunch in the slope-side hotel. His boots were stolen, an experience entirely new to our family, despite having traveled to junior downhill races throughout New England. The local police seemed to feel that we should have expected that from college students (University of Montana was on vacation). There is no base lodge, per se. The hotel, Summit Lodge, however, is directly at the base and has an elegant dining room open to the public for lunch and dinner. Other than that, it was pizza in the outdoor plaza or a long wait at one of the couple of bar and burger joints at the base. The Summit had a beautiful outdoor pool where our boys swam with their friends, but it was not open to the public. Ski conditions were terrible, but that, obviously, was entirely beyond the control of mountain management. My biggest gripe is the relative lack of choice for dining, shopping and non-ski activities. In fact, the “mountain village” is really just a collection of sorry looking shops and bars, with a couple of very tired restaurants. If you want a good meal at something other than a large hotel dining room, you need to travel many miles off mountain in your own car or in one of the buses provided by the restaurants or town. They run, although not frequently, on a schedule. As seamless as this was made to sound to me on the phone, it was not and, suffice it to say that we ate off mountain only once and were, all in all, very disappointed in après ski vacation time. I took the mountain bus into the town of Big Sky one day for something to do when the ski conditions were dangerously icy and had a hard time filling up the hour between bus arrivals. I tried to arrange a trip for us to Yellowstone Park but was told that the park was closed for the season. I don’t recall the price difference between the Summit and the Huntley complexes. It was enough to discourage me from wanting to reserve a condo in the Summit. We left feeling perplexed as to what, really, is so special about Big Sky, relieved for having generous friends at the Summit and knowing that we would probably never return.

After reading a negative review on this forum, I was reluctant to stay at Stillwater. However, I'm glad we did. It was a GREAT location. Easy walk to the lifts, shops, restaurants, bars, etc. Condo was nice, clean, well heated, nice bed, fireplace, nice views. Well -equipped kitchen. Service was excellent. Housekeeping came every other day and cleaned condo. You can call the Front Desk or concierge to have all of your questions answers. Wireless internet access is available across the street at the Huntley Lodge in their beautiful lobbies.

I would definitely stay there again. Just loved it and it is MUCH less expensive than the other places to stay at Big Sky!

20 year old condo in need of an update. Bed's were horrible, old, old lumpy mattress with grey paper thin sheets. The overall resort is very nice but I would not stay @ Stillwater again.

We stayed in Unit 1041 of the Stillwater Condominiums at Big Sky, MT for 3 nights in February 2016. We arrived late and were unpleasantly surprised to find a condominium that seems not to have been updated since the late 1970s. Moldy tile in the bathrooms, decades of wear and tear, beds that sagged to the middle, a hot water faucet that did not work in the upstairs loft bathroom, and old tired living room furniture. Arriving we were overwhelmed by the musty smell of the unit and had to leave a window open during our stay. I did not notice until the next morning that there was fecal material (presumably from a prior occupant) in the downstairs toilet (took photo, but it was distasteful enough it would probably violate Tripadvisor's rules for submission). I have no idea what other units in the facility are like (although an indication can be found in other reviews), but the price-value ratio for this unit was hopelessly lopsided in favor of the management. Read what others have written about amenities. For example, the pool, while nice, is located in the Huntley Lodge, a 5-7 min walk uphill (we saw but never went because of the distance). There were no other amenities that we could identify. Shame on Big Sky Management for having these units in their portfolio and managing them so poorly!
