This was our 5th Montage location and felt compelled to share a review based off previous reviews listed.
We were unable to visit over winter so booked a late summer trip. This is a new property with a small amount of construction going on in the surrounding areas of the area. However, this hotel is one of the most beautifully designed / decorated I have seen. It is a perfect compliment of rustic Montana with modern refinements throughout. The views are simple amazing from common areas, room, spa and dining options. The outside areas were simply breathtaking, and highlight the beauty of BigSky (why we chose this destination).

Spa was on easily par with other Montage locations. Elegant, great amenities, indoor pool was exceptional and refreshing (cool, but perfect). Also want to mention my guy Shaka, who gave easily the best sports massage in 25 years. A Jedi of kinesiology and student of eastern medicine, performed an amazing therapy and great recommendation for an aging athlete.
Lastly, highly recommend our experience at Cortina and the lobby bar outside. Nightly cocktails for happy hour became an event we looked forward to with anticipation. We tested the varieties of an extensive bourbon list, vat of champagne (the wife’s favorite) and anything with “Frank’s blue cheese olives”. Dinners at Cortina were exceptional. Diverse Menu and service were top notch and attention to details (and us) were never overlooked. Everything we ordered over a few days was excellent with “must haves” being the grilled Octopus, burrata salad, elk carpaccio, sea bass and fresh truffle gnocchi!

Overall a wonderful stay! Looking forward to a return trip in March for the winter experience! Front desk staff, concierge and Cameron and Brea were exceptional! Thank you all!

I recently returned from Montage, Big Sky. I understand this hotel has only been open about three months and with Covid, it has been a challenge to most business. That being said, when you promote your resort as a five star property, and are charging $2000/day you expect much more than we experienced. From checking in where the staff member needed assistance finding our room, to no one answering the phone for more than 40 minutes of repeated calling and being disconnected after about ten rings. In general the greatest shortcomings is the lack of training of the staff. From the restaurants, where not ever were we asked about food allergies, which my son has, when we told the waiter, he had us write down pine nuts as he had never heard of them.
The ski shop/ storage was so unorganized it took almost a half hour to get our equipment.
What makes this worse was everyone there had similar experiences and complaints.
I have stayed at very fine hotels and resorts around the world never experienced the lack of training of staff.
Other than that, this is a beautiful resort with potential, that should be ashamed of itself for charging like a five star and delivering much less.

I heard the resort had some growing pains as it first opened in December 2021 and wasn't even close to completion nor properly staffed. I think they closed down for a bit to get up to speed. As of June 2022 there is still more construction going on outside but the inside is fantastic. We were some of the first ones to experience their Rivalry Room (Golf/Football/Baseball and other games simulator. There is a full bar and food area down there. When we arrived we were greeted with Champagne and Caviar and taken outside to enjoy the view and fire pits. The rooms are very nice (see pics) They all have a fire place and spectacular views. The bowling alley is now open with 4 lanes and a full restaurant down there with for Sports Bar food and pizzas and small assortment of main entrees. They main restaurant had fabulous food (see pics) and little wait time. Great view while eating of the ski area. There is a bar with a huge fire place centrally located and a grab and go food market. The gift shop wasn't well stocked and over priced. The gym had plenty of equipment and exercise bikes outside as well to enjoy the cool mountain air with low humidity. They are still working on the pool area and ski area at bottom of hill. They do have a ski in and out with lifts rights there. The have electric bikes in case you want not have to pedal on the mountain. They run a shuttle to the downtown shopping area. Staff was super outgoing and did everything asked of them for superior service. There is construction of more units which should be finished within a year I guess. They do have guest residences with 4 and 5 bedrooms (see pics). All these residences have high end kitchens and living rooms and they can provide a chef if needed (probably extra charge). I didn't get to experience the spa as my massage was cancelled due to staffing.

I just returned from a seven night stay at Montage Big Sky and it was truly a memorable trip. The setting is picture perfect and there are “heroic views” from pretty much anywhere on the property.

I highly recommend visiting the spa which was a nice retreat after a day in the great outdoors. They have a beautiful indoor poor and hot tub which receives daylight from the neighboring pool area. The relaxation room also lives up to its name and provides an array of fine teas and snacks.

The food was absolutely fabulous and we enjoyed their signature restaurant, Cortina, both for dinner and breakfast. The bison was quite spectacular for dinner. For breakfast you can order off the menu but they also have a great buffet which has everything you could desire.

They have absolutely thought of everything at the property and there are endless things to do - bowling, golf simulators, pool, darts, cornhole and much more. It is an ideal resort to keep kids entertained.

Finally, the backbone of the operation is the staff. The service was second to none and lead by the GM, Don Victorio. He handles all issues with class while being a very serious man. Amanda was also great as she was pivotal in assisting our group with a very difficult logistics issue. Daniel from valet was also a breath of fresh air and always greeted us with a smile when coming to and leaving the property.

We will certainly return this upcoming ski season.

If I could leave a negative review I would. I was so excited about having a massage after a long week skiing was really looking forward a great experience , especially when you pay $350 for a massage. While I was in jacuzzi compete naked I had a gentleman come in from their own stuff on a lady locker - wandering around like it was his own bedroom. I addressed the issue at the reception and I got nothing but oh , I didn’t knew about that .

Not to mention that my massage was cut to 40 minutes due to the fact that my experience wasn’t proper timed by the reception and the therapist was going on a lunch break.

I waited from the ski base for the shuttle at -15 which was late 48 minutes to start with . Not one but 3 major issues that should be addressed for a 5 star property .

The massage itself was fairly ok and the therapist tried to accommodate all he could - but just the fact that I saw a male wearing supplies in the locker room while fully naked would scare me to death to ever return.

Also , two towels on the whole locker room and 6 customers waiting for two uncleaned showers. I nearly walked into an used razor.

It’s a new property and ran poorly . I get it is covid , I get it the lack of stuff but for the price tag I pay I expect a minimum decency and not an attitude from a spa receptionist once I raised my concern.

We just returned from our stay here and have stated at multiple Montage properties and love them. We will absolutely come back to this one as well. I’m rating it 5 stars because it was a soft opening and it was great for what it was. The staff at all of the eating locations were outstanding and the food was great! Oris (may be spelling incorrectly!) at the front desk was fantastic as was Arsenio. All of the staff at Compass was just fantastic! The woman at the front desk of the spa (I didn’t catch her name) is just excellent as well and I loved my hydro facial and my husband loved his massage! Santa, the movie nights, cookie decorating etc were just wonderful for kids!

I’d say so far, housekeeping and guest relations is perhaps the weakest. I’m 100% certain this will all be worked out given time, just providing feedback. Room was great however for some reason my husband had a happy birthday card and his birthday is in July and we were traveling with our 6 year old (the hotel asked prior to our arrival if we were traveling with kids) and there weren’t sheets for us to make up her pull out bed for her. Four calls and 2 hours later, we got sheets.

Here are my suggestions of what I think are simple things to do. Put slippers and hair driers in the rooms. These are relatively basic things I would expect from a luxury hotel. Please put a list of the activities available to kids each day in the rooms. We loved the activities provided for our daughter but missed some because we just didn’t know it was happening. More selections at Wildflower such as simple fruit bowls would be great!

Overall we just loved our stay and this property is incredible! We will be back!

We stayed here March 2022 for spring break with the family (2 adults, 3 kids aged 10/12/15). I gave the Montage Big Sky some grace since they had recently opened. Even with this grace, it was surprisingly bad, especially when taking the price of $1k+ per night into account.

Pro = Rooms and location and Compass (ski in/out) were great.

Cons = Everything else was really bad. For example, the hotel is not close to town and far away...which is totally fine and part of the appeal. But, if that is going to be the case, then you need to have food options for families. Only 1 restaurant would be open at a time basically and that one restaurant would be completely over-run and under-staffed so it would be a 2-3 hour ordeal. You could tell that the staff was new and didn't really have ways to solve issues and nobody had the knowledge or authority to solve problems. Hopefully, that gets fixed over time with experience and better management. To top things off, we had several erroneous charges ($188 instead of $88 charged for example). Maybe honest error or something else. Regardless, I have emailed/called several times and spoken to numerous hotel people that promised to fix this. It is now 4 months later and nothing. Set aside the money part of that...it just continuously shows how disorganized/underwater/unresponsive the hotel is to their guests or any problems. Take all of this into account...and then be asked to spend $1k+ per night. Unbelievable.

Our Christmas stay at the Montage Big Sky was absolutely magical. We wanted a "nice" place to stay with ski access for our beginner/intermediate skiing family. We got so much more.

Yes, the hotel is absolutely beautiful, food is wonderful, and the ski access was perfect for us. What we never anticipated was the service. Hands down, the most amazing staff we have ever encountered. You don't realize how important this is until your flight is delayed and your luggage (partially) lost. We stumbled upon the INCREDIBLE Dan Peterman on day 1 who asked about our stay so far. Dan & team made sure we had everything we needed to fill the gaps from the lost luggage. Staff members we encountered shared a smile, remembered out names, and seemed genuinely HAPPY. It was if we were immediately in the company of friends. Cameron in Concierge? Niko at Beartooth? Gia aka Katie, Kevin, Luigi, and Mauricio at Compass Sports? THE BEST. I don't think I could ever describe the *magic* that this staff creates for its guests. We loved our room, the common area, the restaurants, the daily activities, and for skiing? It was my favorite lift- even more than the main resort area, uncrowded & easy for this beginner to navigate. Compass Sports for our equipment was just a fantastic, fun team!

If you are on the fence, book it. You won't be disappointed. You will be overjoyed!

We are here on a weekend in prime ski season and they closed off two of the three on property restaurants for a private party. No chophouse. No pub. No bowling alley. No hot tub (out of order). Basically you can get pub food and $16 beers at the lobby bar or drive into town. Also there is a huge construction site across the street so you can wake up to hammering and heavy equipment. All of this would be absolutely fine at a 3 star hotel at 3 star prices. However, being advertised on something that is then both not completed and rented out to a private party during your stay is absolutely unacceptable at this price point.

We loved our stay at the Montage Big Sky. The staff is very welcoming and really provide that 5* service you look for at this price point. We loved how dog friendly the hotel is - our two Bernese Mountain Dogs had an excellent stay with us. We even got a room at ground level right next to the door to go outside so that was perfect for our pups! The food at the Montage is excellent. I loved their coffee bar. As some other reviews have stated, the service was lacking at the fine dining restaurant. I have been to many 5 star properties and our food was slow to come out and the service less attentive than I am used to at that price point. Their ski concierge service is excellent. I hope to be able to travel back to the Montage soon!
