Detailed Reviews
We always try to pick hotels that are not boring. This works for that goal. Fun decor in lobby and rooms. 10 suites each have decor relating to different local celebrity. Ours was Buddy Ebsen. Suite had mini fridge. Breakfast is not normally included but onsite restaurant was closed due to pandemic so granola bars muffins and yogurt were provided in the lobby each morning. Walking distance to Fitz's go eat there and get soda to take home. Walking distance to Vintage Vinyl. Walking distance to many restaurants including The Baked Bear with custom ice cream sandwiches. Short drive to the Zoo. Slightly longer drive to the Arch but still close enough.

The staff are friendly and informative. The rooms are spacious and comfortable (one of the best mattresses I have slept on in a hotel). The hotel is decked out in vintage moon-themed art and knickknacks. The bathroom was well lit with an excellent magnifying vanity mirror.
The hotel is conveniently situated on the Delmar loop near hip restaurants, shops and a block from the Redline tram running to and from the airport. The Eclipse restaurant has an inspired food and cocktail menu. Be sure to try the shrimp and grits. The roof top bar has amazing views although a more limited drink menu. It is quite the happening place on the weekends, and quite peaceful during the week. The only drawback to the hotel is that on the weekend drunken guests returning to their rooms in the wee hours of the morning can be quite noisy. The hotel does provide an ambient noise machines in the rooms which helps block some of this out as well as my husband's snoring so that was a plus.
We plan to stay again the next time we are in St. Louis.

Having stayed in this hotel a decade back, found a marked difference in the room. The bed stand had leather peeling off, and faded Carpeting, The front desk staff were helpful. We stayed for two nights. Housekeeping have fixed timings for room cleaning in each floor. That makes it very inflexible.

I booked with Orbitz on the internet, they don't like 3rd party reservations. I needed to add a night, called the hotel and was told I need to cancel with Orbitz and make reservation with. Only $40 a night higher than Orbitz. So I just book with Orbitz another night. When j checked in was told since I booked thru Orbitz they needed to charge my credit card $50 for incidentals. Theg did, I asked for a receipt for that and they said they can't. Then, after 2 days they checked me out and had to check-in for the extra night I had booked. They charged my card another $50, again no receipt. I asked for a receipt if there was incidentals or show zero balance. They said we can't do that. They said my $100 may show up in 7-9 days?

We'd heard about the Moonrise from friends who stayed at the hotel several years ago and were looking forward to our stay. Sadly, we couldn't wait to check out soon after we arrived. On first glance, the hotel appeals with quirky design features and a good location on the Delmar Loop. However, look a little deeper and that's where it all ends. Principally, the hotel suffers from poor management. The staff is at a loss when it comes to basic information about the hotel. When we asked for a room on the quiet side of the hotel we were assigned a room facing a noisy club venue. Simple requests for additional pillows were forgotten and required three reminders. When I asked if we could swap out artificial fill pillows with feather pillows, no one knew whether or not the hotel had feather pillows. They didn't. Worst of,all the beds are lumpy and cave in at the center. It's next to impossible to get a comfortable night's sleep. When I asked if there might be a room with a firmer bed, my request was brushed off by a "manager" with a curt "no, they're all like that." Well, If they're all like that, perhaps they might consider making some improvements. When we visited the rooftop bar we were turned back at the door and told by a bouncer that the bar had "run out of glasses." When we spoke with a staff member about our concerns, she offered to communicate our comments to management and said they would offer us some kind of gift card toward breakfast or dinner. Nothing ever came of it. We travel frequently and this was by far the worst hotel experiences we've ever had. Certainly not worth the daily rate for a room here. Look elsewhere when looking for accommodations in St. Louis!

I needed to stay near WashU and was without a car - without much research I found this hotel which appears to be the only one near the university and also near restaurants. (I may be wrong). I spent two nights. First, the hotel has a quirky moon theme. Fine. It mainly consists of a couple of glass display cases near the lobby with a moon related collection of tchatchkes. Beyond that there is a mild "mid century" feel and a big moon on top of the hotel located at the rooftop bar.
Pros: location at Delmar loop and near university
Cons: This is an old hotel with very superficial "improvements". Feels like a 1980 hotel
covered up. Lots of "dings" around from being bumped and used.
The chair and other furniture in the room had stains and were worn.
The hallway smelled.
The price was steep for the quality of the place
Went to the rooftop bar and was met by surly bouncer. Weird.
The front desk staff were okay but seemed unprofessional/too relaxed
I had 3 suitcases and no one offered to help me to the elevator etc
The BED was completely terrible. Had to be very old. Sunken in the middle, totally soft. had to be low quality such as few springs as the whole thing bounced all over when touched. I hardly slept for two nights. If not for this awful bed I likely would not have bothered writing a review as the rest was all forgettable.
I'll be going back to St Louis and I'll figure out something else next time.

We are small touring party with many VIP needs. While the Moonrise may not be the fanciest hotel in town, it is the most comfortable, warm and attentive to its VIP guests needs.
The general manager, Clay, went above and beyond to accomodate us at almost zero notice. Their team came together to meet our every need like a well oiled machine.
Chef, Tasha, Jasmine and Cedarius made us feel like we were in their own home at the Eclipse restaurant. The food was delicious with a Caribbean theme we weren’t expecting in St. Louis. The cocktails were amazing!
Clay not only worked diligently to make our client and stay comfortable, but he also acted as an amabassador for other vendors and services that made our stay more enjoyable. His discretion and care was much appreciated.
While I don’t immediately associate St. Louis with hospitality, I have to say we enjoyed the five star white glove treatment we received at the Moonrise Hotel.
Certainly the are other five star hotels in St. Louis, none offered a better location for walking, restaurants and a feeling of safety.

First, I have stayed here off and on since it's opening and always enjoyed it. This trip when we tried to get something to eat, We were told the kitchen was down and no one had any info on it's opening. I asked about roomservice since there was a dirty room service tray next to our room but that was "forgotten".
I emailed the manager and his response was " We were open for breakfast and unfortunately had to close the kitchen but when I left this evening I was informed it should be back open at 6:30am tomorrow for breakfast but not sure yet about dinner service. Once I have more information I will follow up with you."
I never heard from him and as far as I know when we checked out two days later the restaurant was still closed even though there was another dirty room service tray in the hall.
Next trip I guess it's the Chase Park Plaza for us. So sad

Spent 4 nights while in town for my son’s graduation from Washington University in St. Louis. The staff was very attentive to all our needs and I would highly recommend this hotel.
I had wanted to stay there since my son’s freshman year and booked the Vincent Price suite a year and a half before. In a different time and place. The hotel became a Wash U dorm. They really did a quick turnover and you would never know that the Moonrise had been full of students a short time before.
I had leis (Hawaiian tradition)shipped directly to the hotel and they put them in the fridge until I got there.
They were short staffed but always had time to accommodate us. I spilled tea on my bed and told the front desk. It was done by the time I came back from breakfast.
My friend wanted to sleep in her own bed and the suite only had one king. Luckily, the adjoining room was available and we were able to have it, and it was comped.
The room was funky and had the coolest rug and light fixtures. We also spent a lot of time at the rooftop bar. The weather was warm, the views great and the sky sparkly.
One day we had to be somewhere and our food needed to come out in a NY minute, and after telling them our dilemma it came out right away.
I would recommend this to anyone going to Wash U or St. Louis who is looking for a non-chain independent vibe. Also, walking distance to all the restaurants on the loop.
Thanks again, for a wonderful stay.

8 miles. About a 15 minute car ride with no traffic.
I didn’t stay in a suite, I had a conventional room.
12 Min drive... Its a great hotel, I recommend you to stay there....
I’m not sure. I would assume yes. There was zero pet odor
