The private property of five acres combines country-style luxury accommodation with an organic mixed orchard and beautiful gardens set up to permaculture principals, old tall trees, countless flowers and birds. It is fully self-contained with a well equipped kitchenette with quality Swiss knifes, hot plates, microwave and BBQ on the private deck. Complementary we provide beach towels as well as seasonal fresh fruit from the orchard, teas and coffee, olive oil and freshly ground salt and pepper. The orchard is truly a heavenly spot. Various fruit trees, horses, pigs and hedgehogs. It's really beautiful.
There was also plenty to do for our 4-year-old daughter with a swimming pool, cable car and trampoline. The hosts were great. Very helpful and very friendly. They also try to be sustainable as much as possible. Also received some good tips for getting to know the area. We wouldn't have wanted to miss this either. There are also nice restaurants, walks and beautiful beaches in the area.

Thank you to Diana & Roger for a wonderful stay. The cottage was very clean and decorated with love and many little details. We highly recommend this accommodation including the wonderful breakfast basket with homemade or local products!

We had the unit that is separate from the house and between garage and tool shed of this working, organic orchard. Really lovely to be self-contained and to prepare our own breakfast with the delicious hamper that Diane offered. Lovely to see a family of quail enjoying breakfast with us in the orchard. Plum trees were laden and Diane and Roger shared the bounty with us. Just delicious. Also, an outdoor bath with privacy off back porch which as an extra special treat.

We didn't want to leave! We stayed at Mercury orchard recently attending a wedding at nearby Cooks Beach. Barry & Heather made us feel very welcome and were never far in case we had a question about nearby attractions or restaurants. Both cottages are surrounded by the orchard on the their property - ranging from pear, plum, mandarin, fig, apple...the birds and flowers are just awesome to wake up to. They also have some farm animals which makes it a very sustainable property - there's nothing better than eating a freshly prepared breakfast consisting of fruit from the orchard, local manuka honey & yoghurt followed by a cooked breakfast consisting of fresh free range eggs from their own chooks (cooked to order) with all the usual trimmings. Highly recommend staying here - we will certainly be back.

Two days of bad weather in an oasis of green and peace and kindness.. we spent nearly all our Coromandel-time in the cottage ... and we loved it. Diana and Roger are great and helpful hosts and the breakfast one of the best we had, with fresh baked bread and eggs and cereales and tomatoes and prunes from the orchard... very much to recommande for some cool days.

I stayed for two nights at one of the two outstanding cottages of Mercury Orchard which was surrounded by fruit trees. The cottages offer above average comfort and they are very tastefully furnished. Guests are welcomed with a basket of fresh fruits and a heartily welcome by the excellent hosts, Diana and Roger. The location of Mercury Orchard is exellent, very close from the main attractions of the Coromandel Peninsula but still remote enough to enjoy the great location on a former dairy farm. Instead of cattle, nowadays you can enjoy the presence of two pigs, some chicken and the friendly dog Rusty.

Could not have found a better place to stay! Among all of the beautiful and exceptional places we visited, this was the best. The surroundings were idyllic. The cottage is nestled among an orchard- plums, pears, and apples. Barry and Heather not only gave us fresh fruit every day to take with us, but provided a ladder so that we could pick our own whenever the desire struck. The 2 could not have been more generous and engaging hosts. The surrounding gardens are simply elegant. The cottage is quiet with tasteful decor and plenty spacious. Of the 20 or so DVDs they provided, probably 5 are among our all time favorites and the others are all classics. Barry and Heather provided us with a list of must see attractions in the area and we were able to visit most in our 3 days in the area. They were without exception, extraordinary. Coromandel is probably our favorite spot in New Zealand. So peaceful and bucolic with gorgeous beaches and great walking trails. I can't imagine a more perfect way to visit the peninsula than through Mercury Orchard. I almost forgot to mention the breakfast which was yummy. Not only the usual amenities, but Barry took special orders for whatever our heart desired. I hope that guests have the opportunity to see the night sky as we did-never have we experienced it so clearly and so free from extraneous light. Lastly, the fresh flowers and chocolates presented at our arrival were icing on the cake.

We stayed four nights in the smaller of the two "cabins". On arrival the room had fresh flowers and choclates. Tea and coffee making facilitliies with a fridge, microwave and BBQ were included. Our room had a small deck on the east side (great for breakfast in the morning sun) and a larger deck on the west side (great for drinks in the evening looking over the beautiful orchard). The queen sized bed was top quality with nice linen. Hosts Barry and Heather put on a great breakfast which included fresh fruit, cereals, fresh bread, and cooked eggs, bacon, mushrooms etc. (make sure you have the really tasty bacon!). The property is well located near the beach, golf course, villages etc. We would deffinately stay there again. The only down side is proximity to the road. There is some road noise during the day, but after 8pm this is no longer an issue until after 8am (we were there in absolute peak season).

Stayed here for two nights in January during our fantastic NZ road trip.

Booked this well in advance from the UK and had a great friendly email exchange going on about the booking that we felt we knew them before we had arrived.

On arrival we were not disappointed as the place was beautiful and Barry and Heather were the perfect hosts.

We stayed in the Paua Bach which was in a wonderful location surrounded by their orchard with a deck back and front and of course the optional outside bath!

Breakfast was served both mornings on the front deck and cooked to order - was wonderful!

Location wise its only 5 to 10 minutes drive to Whitianga (park up and get the passenger ferry), Cooks Beach and Hot Water Beach which was great fun! There is a spade on the deck to take along to dig your own hot pool on the beach!

Barry and Heather recommended and booked two local restaurants for us during our stay which were both great - Go Vino in Cooks Beach and Eggcentric near Whitianga both only around 5 to 10 minutes drive away.

We booked the Ocean Leopard boat trip from Whitianga on Barry and Heathers recommendation and were not disappointed - was a great way to see Cathedral Cove.

On our last morning Heather and Barry showed us all their animals; a donkey, two pigs, two goats, a few chickens and their two lovely dogs.

Was a great relaxing time and wish we had stayed there for longer.

This year we completed our 7th visit to N.Z. spread over 15 years. We discovered Mercury Orchard on our second visit and have stayed with Heather & Barry each time ever since. Over the years we have B & B'd all over N.Z. but Mercury Orchard is still our favourite destination by far - this is based on a combination of the wonderful hospitality of Heather & Barry, the accommodation itself has everything you need as well as being spotlessly clean and with comfortable beds, the quality and quantity of the breakfast/food served, the geographic position in the Coromandel of that accommodation whereby you can be as busy as you like or relax in the orchard. We could expand further but what we and other reviewers have written should be enough to convince all considering a stay. When we come back to N.Z. an 8th time Barry & Heather will be our longest singe stay!

Hi there, sorry for a late reply, I found your message just now. We are already booked out for the Easter Weekend this year and we require a minimum stay of two nights during high season. We are looking forward to accommodate you during your next stay on the Coromandel. Regards D.

"We stayed in the Fig Cottage, which had a separate bedroom to the living area. The other cottage looked like it was a studio, which also has a cute outdoor bath with hot and cold taps. As no one was staying there, we were able to give our 2 year old an outdoor bath one evening!"
