A bit of serendipity combined with excellent reviews led us to Mercury Orchard during our recent visit to the Coromandel Peninsula. From the moment we arrived and first took in the idyllic environment, we sensed that we had made a wonderful choice. Diana and Roger are extremely thoughtful and welcoming hosts. The Fig Tree Cabin was roomy with all necessary amenities. Our cabin’s front door opened onto a covered deck looking out onto beautiful blooming orchards. With a less than 10 minute drive to beaches, restaurants and nearby villages, these accommodations were extremely convenient as well. Roger and Diana are extremely knowledgeable of the peninsula’s ecology & hidden treasures (trails, restaurants & beaches). We will never forget their kindness and hope to return to Mercury Orchard again.…
This was the best accommodation on our trip around the Coromandel. Handy to Cathedral Cove and Hot Water beach and so peaceful and relaxing. We were really glad we stayed at Mercury Orchard rather than in Whitianga. Highly recommend.
The house we stayed in was small but beautifully made and impeccably clean. It's in an open orchard, where we had a great time with our 3 and 6 year olds who quickly made friends with the dog Rusty, the two pigs, the chickens - as we made friends with Diana and Roger. It was one of the highlights of our holiday, would thoroughly reccomend.
This was our favorite place to stay on our 21-day trip to North Island. The grounds and orchard are gorgeous! The cottage (we stayed at the Fig Tree Cottage) was charming and had everything we needed. The pictures don't do it justice. We had a lot of fun getting to know Rusty and visited the pigs in the nearby pen. Our host, Diana, was very welcoming and cheery. Two things that aren't in the description and were happy surprises were the free wifi and that the kitchen does have a hotplate. We didn't use the hotplate because we came prepared to grill everything. And the BBQ was clean (can't say that for another place we stayed). But had we wanted to boil pasta, or sauté vegetables, we could have. The wifi that we weren't expecting was speedy! We had some wine and cheese on the deck, looking out over the beautiful orchard and wished we could have spent longer there.…
Two days of bad weather in an oasis of green and peace and kindness.. we spent nearly all our Coromandel-time in the cottage ... and we loved it. Diana and Roger are great and helpful hosts and the breakfast one of the best we had, with fresh baked bread and eggs and cereales and tomatoes and prunes from the orchard... very much to recommande for some cool days.
