Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were looking for 1 night accommodation and came up a side road to a building that looked very closed. We rang the bell and no answer. Sitting in the car for several minutes a man approaches( owner?) and we ask about accommodation. We were fixed up then and there, the owner was very helpful, and it was just word of mouth. It was morning and we were off to Milford Sound so we would be late back. He showed us the room which was spotless and newly decorated. The shower/bathrooms were along the corridor, also spotless and new. The rooms were basic but very good value. A few extras and they could charge more. The outside was a delight, a covered veranda and outside seating leading to a very pretty garden. The building from the front is a genuine old time railway hotel but it needs a much more inviting front door with patterned glass panels and attractive door "furniture". It looks too closed up at present. I would definitely recommend this hotel, the folks were friendly and the value excellent. A light DIY breakfast was also included. The hotel is off the main road and very quiet by fields.

I stayed for one night in the queen en-suite room. All staff were very accommodating; showing me the breakfast layout (bread, spreads and cereals are in a dedicated kitchen for you to make your own).

The restaurant food was made to order; the ribs I had were fall off the bone and the best tasting I have had since...America (land of the ribs).

A great place to stop on while going to or for somewhere. Guaranteed a good nights sleep in clean quarters. A slice of history, a great outside area to sit in the sun, on site bar which in no way has noise travelling to the sleeping areas.

A slice of New Zealand.

We booked in to stay straight after a long journey from UK. It was an ideal place to chill and get over the jet-lag.
Comfortable room. We were sharing bathroom facilities which was absolutely fine as there are several showers and toilets so no waiting.
The convivial bar and restaurant areas were both great. A far more wide-ranging menu than we expected. Good food choices and lovely Monteith's cider
Very helpful and friendly staff.
Really good to have the breakfast area with hot beverages, toast and cereals - ideal.
Such a quiet location and the respectful, quiet and considerate behaviour of our fellow guests made for a restful and very enjoyable stay.
Ideal location for accessing the Round The Mountains cycle trail, Lumsden, Five Rivers etc.
Thoroughly recommended, couldn't fault it

The people are very nice and obviously want you to enjoy. The room is clean but lacks simple things like a water glass and shampoo. A luggage rack and in room hot pot would be great improvements. The restaurant was good and good value.

Tired, hungry cyclists will eat and sleep almost anywhere. This place exceeded all my expectations by a lot and I will likely return in the future with my wife while travelling by car. The Hosts are a great couple and deserve every success. Great food, nice clean rooms and wonderful service.

Nice welcome and very clean room, slight downside was that bed was a bit soft so that rolling over in the night felt like you were on a water bed!.

We had to curtail our stay because of bad weather on West coast so we had to cancel 2nd night, that was no problem, parking was easy and breakfast was good.

We booked for dinner and were surprised at how busy the restaurant was, food was really good.

Stayed one night as part of the around the mountain bike trip with another family and teenage children. We were picked up from Lake Mavoura by our host and transported back to the hotel. Great friendly service, went out of his way to look after our bikes and show us around. It was really appreciated. Hotel was a gem of a local pub. Rooms are simple but clean and comfortable. Good showers. Food and service in the restaurant were both excellent. Really enjoyed our stay, hope to return again one day.

Great spot. Very comfortable. Slept well! Enjoyed dinner in the restaurant too. Tom the host is very helpful. Lovely team. Recommend as a good place to stop. Having continental breakfast included in room rate was a bonus. Lots of locals in the bar, which is always fun :)

After a hard day cycling on the Around the Mountains trail, we had a great evening at the hotel. Friendly staff, tasty food and cold drinks were very welcome. And it was lovely and warm inside while it was so cold outside.

Great food, great place to stay and a very warm welcome. I had the steak and the Eton Mess and both were wonderful. I stayed just for the one night - excellent recently refurbished room and good clean facilities. Highly recommend.

Hi there. Sorry but we do not offer kitchen facilities at our establishment. We however have a room set up with a microwave and a fridge that we use as a breakfast lounge.
