My husband and I stayed at Wheels and Reels for 2 nights recently while doing the "Round The Mountains" bike trail. Tom who is the owner of the both Mossburn Hotel and the Wheels and Reels gave us awesome service. Nothing was too much both. He put together a personalised package for us to do the 3 day ride. I had researced several options with different companies and Toms was by far the most cost effective. He is a great communicator and always replied to my emails promptly. He not only provided us with an excellent shuttle service each day, tranporting our baggage and when necessary us and our bikes. He has great local knowledge and gave us really good advice. He organised for us to have an excellent breakfast at the Dome Cafe around the corner and we ate each night at the hotel. Tom's wife cooked us our evening meals at the Hotel over the road and it was such a nice change to have pan fried fish, mashed potato and vegetable rather than the normal steak and chips or hamberger and chips that most pubs offer. The rooms we very spacious and well equipped with good heating and was very clean, light and airy. Tom, charged our ebikes for us each night. When he said he would pick us up somewhere he did it prompty and as promised. He even went the extra mile for us. I definitely recommend Tom and his company. The Wheels and Reels was very peaceful and quiet. Tom is very friendly, welcoming and talkative.

Stayed here on the way to Milford sound. Great place to stay ,super warm. Rooms are big and all double glazed , bathroom and shower are very clean and excellent condition. Free use of washing machine and dryer with a donation if you wish. You only have to pay for laundry powder at the bar which only costs a DOLLAR! very modern accommodation with good WiFi . awesome pub/restaurant just across the road which has great food and a friendly Tom (bartender). Definitely recommend staying here en route to/from Milford.

Stayed at Wheels and Reels whilst on our Around the Mountain cycle trip. The rooms are spotless and spacious. Ate across the road at the Railway Hotel (where you also check in) and the food was delicious with excellent service.
Made use of owner Tom’s shuttle service for ourselves, bikes and luggage which again was spot on, nothing too much trouble and great company on the journeys.

This accommodation is new, having only opened a few months ago, and particularly catering to cyclists and fishermen, hence the name. I stayed here for two nights recently. The room I had wasn't big, but was enough for what I needed. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I loved the pillows here.

There are no cooking facilities in the room, just a kettle for tea and coffee. There is also no fridge but there is a fridge in the building that can be shared with other guests.
There also wasn't a desk or table, but then, there's probably not many cyclists and fishermen who need one.

The motels are owned by the same people that have The Railway Hotel directly across the road, which is also where you check in and get your keys. You can also get a large range of evening meals there. They have quite an extensive range of meal options. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.

The highlight is the Railway Hotel across the road. Good clean modern accommodation at Wheels & Reels. Fully met our requirements. Evening meal across the road at the Railway Hotel. Warm welcome from Tom. I think this is close to authentic New Zealand food, service & decor as you can find. All the better for it.
The Gooseberry and Rubarb shortbread was grown in ‘the mother in laws garden’, I liked that, and it tasted good.
Mossburn is a small hamlet. No other restaurant for miles. We didn’t breakfast locally as we booked the 11am boat at Milford Sound, and on day 2 the 8am boat to Doubtful Sound. Mossburn worked quite well for both journeys. I’m sure most people would want a lakeside view/location. But if you don’t particularly want to mix it with the tourists and are looking for a rural stopover I think you would like this place - we did.

We booked online for three nights - big mistake. While the room is very modern and clean, there were a few oddities for a motel. There was a double and single bed, which on the face of it is good, BUT there was nowhere to hang your clothes i.e. No cupboard, no hangers. There was only one old wooden seat and a bar stool so nowhere comfortable to sit except the bed. There were coffee and tea making facilities, but instead of spoons there were only wooden stirrers, so no cutlery. There is no table to sit at to drink your coffee. There was a very unfriendly sign on the wall warning of a $100 fine if you prepare food in the room. Finally, there is no fridge in the room, only a communal fridge in the outside corridor. This fridge turned out to be unsafe to use as our food was stolen overnight. We left after one night.

We were recently in New Zealand to visit Milford Sound and we found this lovely Hotel in the country. We booked a room with an on suite for 2 nights which was very comfortable and clean. Access and parking is great. There is a laundry and communal fridge which is very handy. Meals are available at the Railway hotel across the road and they were great and the service was excellent.
