The unbeatable beds. Excellent attention. Very careful that you are very comfortable. The breakfast is spectacular, they make homemade jams, very complete and abundant. In cold months they put a pellet stove that heats the room. Recommended place to return!

I discovered this charming place on our research for a stopping place on route to our place in Nerja. Cortijo El Ciruelo means; Farmhouse of the Plum As it is off the main A92N we followed the directions given and had no problem finding the Cortijo. On our arrival we were greeted with a warm and frindly hostess Gillian and were offered a drink before we went to our room. The Cortijo itself has been totally restored to immaculate condition and the space out on the countyside was wide and and noiseless even as we were only about half a mile away from a busy motorway as the crow flies. The room was large and exceptionall well kitted out with all one needs for a rest and privacy and with kettle and hot drink sachets ie tea, coffee etc. The bathroom was the same and immaculate as well with all the modern fittings. On the first floor landing there is a fridge which is stocked with soft drinks, water and beer and was free to the guests, the only stipulation for the beer was to replace any if one used more than a few. After settling into the room we went back down to the garden and sat in the porch enjoying the afternoon with drinks served up by Gary who was most weloming in his demeanor. The grounds have seating and sun lounging areas and there are large trees which can offer shelter and shade from the sun if required. There is a covered porch which has a long wooden table with plenty chairs for dining in the evening outside and a well maintained dining room on the inside as well. The whole building was a joy to behold and the host explained to us the work they had done themselves to restore the Cortijo to its beautiful condition. The meal served up for dinner was an excellent choice from a well set out menu and the accompaning wine list was also of a good standard. After dinner one can relax in the garden and watch the sunset with occasional call of some of the wildlife which is around the place. When the sun went down and darkness falls the lights can be put out at your request and the view of the night sky was absoutely breathatking as there is no surrounding light polution, it would be a paradise for stargazers. The surrounding country side provides good access for walking and cycling for the energetic and for artists there are plenty of excellent vantage and viewing points for whiling away the hours. The area is part of the Velez national park and there are roads running through the area which takes one the the interesting areas eg the castle at Velez Blanco the interesting town of Velez Rubio and the charming village of Chirvel. If one wants the hust and bustle of busy life they wont get it at the Cortijo, but the the ones who want piece and quiet interesting chat and friendly hosts this is the perfect place to go. They were a very charming couple who made you feel like one of the family and through this we have become friends with Gary and Gill. One word of warning for the motorist going there is the road, which leads up to the Cortijo can be a bit bumpy and is not best designed for the sports car type who may encounter scraping to the underside of the car, but that withstanding we found this place to be a little piece of eden in the otherwise busy and bustling comunities many of us live in. We have been there twice and will have no hesitation of returning again to enjoy the hospitality of the hostd and the peace and quiet of the area.

Gill and Gary went out of their way to look after me in this gorgeous cortijo set in beautiful surroundings, near the town of Velez Rubio. My room was small, but cosy - I think there are larger ones for couples / families. There is a fridge full of cold drinks that you can help yourself to, free wifi, lots of great walks on your doorstep. Its location in the middle of nature is fabulous, and it is great value.

A wonderful b & b. only 5 minutes off the A92 close to Velez Rubio. Gillian and Gary are the perfect hosts. Accommodation, food and ambience are all 5 star. Gillian's cooking is out of this world. You will not find a better place to stay.

We stayed for one night in this fabulously decorated and peaceful Cortijo near to Velez Rubio and Velez Blanco. The hosts, Gary and Gillian, made us most welcome and provided us with much local knowledge, a high quality evening meal and an equally delicious breakfast. We would not hesitate in recommending this as a great place to stay either whilst travelling through the region or as a relaxing longer break to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A true pleasure to be able to stay in such a beautiful property.

Ten of us met up as a group of friends for a nice meal and a nights stop over. The weather even for early October was especially warm and so we could enjoy sitting out in the beautiful peaceful garden with its spectacular mountain views. Gill and Gary were fabulous hosts and showed us a walk to suit our ability, it took us under an hour, through the almond orchards which are all around the cortijo. There are longer walks in the beautiful countryside for the more energetic. After spending a lazy afternoon with refreshments from a well stocked bar, we retired to dress for dinner. Each roomy double bedroom was well appointed with a smart rustic decor and full bathroom en suite. Each had beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Pre dinner we enjoyed gin and tonics or prosecco in the garden before retiring into the cost dinning room. .Dinner was a wonderful spread of delicious homemade dishes prepared by gill, some soft warm homemade bread accompanied either smoked salmon parcels with an advocado cream or the alternative of a goat cheese and caramelized onion tartlet. The main course was either a steak and ale pie or rolled stuffed breast of chicken wrapped in Serrano ham and served with a red wine sauce and some lovely fresh veg and both roast and creamed potato . Despite having been well fed ., everyone was determined to taste the homemade desserts. Either Pedro Jimenez cheesecake or sticky toffee pud with butterscotch sauce and real creamy homemade custard. A veritable feast and overcome by the generous portions of the delicious meal and maybe also the country air ! Most had retired to their beds by 11 that night. By the time we met for breakfast the next morning several had had sightings of a local fox crossing the field to the rear. There are also wild boar and deer to be found in the lightly wooded countryside although we did not see either on this occasion. Continental breakfast was served before we left and there was also available a full English which was delicious and lacked nothing, good value at a 4.50 euro supplement. Everyone agreed that it had been a great short break and we have vowed to return soon. High on the list of must dos is the monthly curry night and we plan to have a group mini break for Christmas next year. Thank you gill and Gary for your hard work in delivering a faultless service with great attention to detail all embraced with a warmth of personality that can't fail to make the guests feel welcome and go away satisfied with fond memories. I almost forgot to mention the two lovely resident dogs , Joey and Archie who joined us in the garden and the complementary beer , water and soft drinks fridge on the landing if you need anything other than the tea tray in the bedrooms before you retire.

I first visited Cortijo El Ciruelo in 2005 & loved it so much I went back for a second visit. This beautifully restored farm house is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the surroundings. I especially enjoyed reading on the sunny patio and taking in the breathtaking views. The bedrooms are clean, comfortable and have everything you could need. Gill and Gary are wonderful hosts and always make me feel at home. The food is excellent! I can't wait to go back.

I hate to confess I am not normally one to write reviews, but after our recent holiday at El Ciruelo Spain I felt I must. We searched for a quiet & tranquil setting near to places we wanted to visit and this was perfect for us with beautiful panoramic views. We had a very warm welcome from Gillian & Gary who were the perfect hosts. The Cortijo has been lovingly & beautifully restored with excellent facilities and spotlessly clean. We ate in the first night and after that never went anywhere else!! it was like dining in a first class restaurant! the food was fantastic. Gill went out of her way to cater for me as I have Celiac disease, I was really surprised and touched that they provided alternatives for me such as Gluten free bread & cereals also biscuits in my room and Gill went out of her way to bake Gluten free options for me when I couldn't eat what the others were given. This shows the kindness and hospitality that was extended to us while we were there for our week. I would have no hesitation at all in recommending this to anyone looking for a relaxing & tranquil setting for their holiday with good food & wines. We found it very central to all the places we wanted to see, unfortunately we didn't have enough time to visit everywhere we wanted but we intend to go back very soon. On top of all this it was one of the most reasonable holidays we have had!! in fact it is the only holiday we did not want to end!
