Literally left yesterday and writing now while this is all fresh in my mind.

I loved Sayulita on my last visit but didn't stay near town. This visit I was determined to spend more time in this charming town and Playa Escondida was a perfect choice. The hotel's location is unmatched. A short ride to town. (We rented a golf cart. The best choice for our fellow joint sufferers), and went to town most days for breakfast or dinner. We spent the rest of the time at this beautiful property that was nestled into the rocks/jungle like it had been there forever. Our room, "Pasion" was at the far north end of the property and was a fun walk, meandering through concrete paths and down stairs until we reached this secluded space. Just enough indoor space and amble patio space. Plus A/C that was frigid and crazy insane shower water pressure. I highly recommend this very private and charming room.

We spent some time on beach chairs/bed but loved the pool area next to the restaurant the most. The pool could not be more perfect with its rustic bridge, heated waterfall and a depth that ranged from 4 to more than 7 feet. Also we saw whales very day.

The entire staff was more than attentive and the 15% gratuity auto-added made it easier to not worry about tipping. Also food was delicious and drinks (esp. their mojito) was perfect and all were very strong.)

Our room was promptly and well made up every day and the hotel supplied ample bottled water so we didn't worry about not having clean water for tooth brushing etc.

The golf card ride to downtown was ten minutes or so and a fun adventure with the hills and rocky roads. You have to ascend and descend the mountain every time. We paid 75 dollars for three days.

On checkout we received a coupon for a return visit and the couple behind us was on their 6th visit. That's the kind of place this is. Can't wait to return!

Many thanks to Johnathan and the rest of the staff for an unforgettable stay!

Beautiful hotel and grounds. We stayed for seven night, two in Bungalow 2 and five in Pasion. Since I love an ocean view, I preferred Pasion but Bungalow 2 was comfortable and had a spacious outdoor area. Frankly, the hotel website does not do the property justice, it is amazing. As a morning person, I particularly appreciated the coffee maker and good coffee in the room. There is also a mini fridge. It is about a 25 minute walk to town, which I enjoyed daily, or a ten minute drive by golf cart. There is yoga offered daily (at 9:30 while we were there) and you can book a massage or other spa services on site.

We had a wonderful stay at Playa Escondida during the first week of July. Before our visit, we had some issues and questions that the hotel staff easily resolved over the phone and via email. They were very accommodating and continued to be so during our stay.

We stayed in Deseo, which had a beautiful private patio and stunning views of the beach and ocean. The room was romantic, and the bed was very comfortable. We appreciated the mosquito net, which added to the ambiance and kept the bugs out. It's important to note that the rooms are quite open to the elements, with unsealed windows and some without screens or glass. However, we were aware of this beforehand and were prepared as it's part of the experience. Surprisingly, there weren't as many bugs/mosquitoes as we expected for July.

Being so close to the ocean, the sound of waves crashing against the rocks was wonderful during the day, but quite noisy at night. Earplugs helped us sleep peacefully, as we knew about this in advance.

The food and drinks at the hotel were excellent. Although there's only one restaurant, we enjoyed the views of the pool and ocean, along with the diverse menu. Every meal was well-prepared, tasty, fresh, and beautifully presented. Juan (Juan and Only), Jesus, and Daniel were excellent servers, and we also had a great time at the bar with Daniel and Ruben, who had creative drink ideas. There were always fresh juices, small batch mescals, and enjoyable conversations.

As many others have mentioned, the staff were the real stars. The small size of the hotel allowed us to get to know them over our stay, and they were truly wonderful. I'd like to mention a few more amazing people: Cassidy at the office, Miguel/Mike & Coco at the beach, and Vickie at the front gate.

We're looking forward to returning to Playa Escondida and bringing more friends next time.

A few additional tips: there isn't much storage space for clothing, and getting a golf cart and driving into Sayulita is highly recommended. The drive through the jungle is beautiful, and we loved the town for its fun places to eat and explore.

For those of you about to spend Christmas at Playa Escondida you are in for a treat. My family (wife, son and his wife and their two daughters, 6 and 4) spent our Christmas 2023 with the great folks at PE. It can be summed up by something my 4 year old granddaughter said, "We need to do this every Christmas!" Owner Diego and his staff knock themselves out to provide the ultimate experience. The Christmas Eve party is second to none, Two Mariachi bands, pinatas for this kids (and some adults) a Cuban dance band and incredible dinner make your time unforgettable. I'm sure it's too late for you to book this Christmas, but do as I did and book a year in advance for 2025. Whenever you go you'll learn the staff do everything possible to give you a premium experience; this was our 17th visit and it just keeps being more amazing. Read the other reviews. Ours is not an isolated experience. Once you you've stayed hear you've truly experienced Paradise. Kids are only encouraged during the holidays and you get an adult only experience the rest of the year. Why go anywhere else?

Lovely, quiet, small resort, maybe 50-60 guests at full occupancy. Playa Escondida is a perfect place to stay: nice beach acces, away from the hubbub of Sayulita, but close enough to walk or golf cart in if you choose. The resort is spread out, with several different room types, most seem to be in their own casitas. Some are a little further from the water and come with golf carts (you can rent a golf cart if it doesn't come with your room), some are oceanfront, some in the jungle, some in the jungle with a view. Angelica in reservations was so patient and helped me pick the perfect one. We loved Studio--ocean view, in the jungle, and with a kitchen. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful (sorry I can't remember all the names). Miguel at the beach has snorkel gear, SUPs, and kayaks. If the ocean isn't too rough or murky, snorkeling was quite good. There are also lounge chairs with shade. They're spaced far apart and the beach doesn't feel crowded. The restaurant, open almost all the time, has very good food (plenty for vegetarians) and reasonable prices. We did go into Sayulita twice, once for diving and once for whale watching. Both were very fun. And we were very happy to drive our golf cart back to our little quiet haven and relax on our private patio or down at the restaurant.

Couldn’t be happier with our stay. Relaxing, restorative…a chance to connect with ourselves and with nature in this quiet and calm (non party!) setting. Gorgeous property that is noticeably well maintained. Hard working and friendly staff. Unique artistic rooms built into the jungle made every night feel like we were truly in nature (beware of the coati and lock up). Once we saw Sayulita beach we were even more ecstatic to have our own private and clean beach. Special shout out to the massage team who were great and knew how to give a proper deep tissue massage, our salsa dance teacher who inspired us to look up dance lessons at home, and the beautiful guitarist/singer who serenaded us with his heartfelt performance. Our only tiny gripe was the food felt really hit or miss. But it did have some hits on the menu and there were tons of good options in town so it didn’t feel like too big a deal (and the drinks made up for it). Thank you to the staff and owner for all the touches you do to make Playa Escondida such a memorable eco resort we are still thinking about.

My friend and I returned to Playa Escondida for a second time and it was just as special as our first trip. This hotel is special - the loveliest staff and the most beautiful views. You can feel the stress melt off you during your stay.

We stayed in Luna Danzante this time, which has two large beds and air conditioning. It’s the perfect room to stay in if you’re traveling with friends. Just be aware that the bathroom and shower are relatively open, but you can always pop outside to the patio for privacy purposes.

We loved lounging at the beach and in the pool every day. Many thanks to the staff for keeping our drinks filled and for being so kind.

Two small hiccups during our stay - we tried to book a golf cart to drive into Sayulita one morning and were told that all of the golf carts were booked. This was a bit ridiculous as there were plenty of golf carts not being used. The hotel should come up with a better rental system to ensure that all guests have access to the golf carts given that the majority of them remain unused by guests. Also, check out took an extraordinarily long time. These small issues did not impact our stay though, and we would happily return.

I can not say enough good things about the resort. I will start with the resort itself, it is absolutely stunning. Everything is very clean and comfortable. Our room (Villa 5) was always cleaned and prepared beautifully every day. We learned the first night not to leave the bathroom light on as moths and any other creature that loves light will enter. There are no glass in the windows or screens and you have to remember you are in the jungle.
Now for the staff. They are the absolutely best thing about this resort and I can not stress this enough! The front desk staff are always so helpful. The kitchen staff make every meal an experience in itself. Juan, Joel, and the chefs make sure you have a delicious breakfast and lunch everyday. I wish I could have gotten the chef’s names, every single dish was delicious. In the afternoon for supper we had Jesus, Manuel, Miguel and Scott. Always the best smiles and making sure to always suggest an amazing dinner if you didn’t know what to have.
I highly highly suggest having a 90 min Relaxation massage (or two) while you are here. Dalia, Lupita and Francis have magical hands. We went twice and felt amazing after, and for sure takes you to the next level of relaxation for the day.
The beach bar may have been the funnest of all the locations lol. They are always willing to make you an amazing cocktail. Daniel greeted us every morning, and Ruban, Victor and Christian every evening. I celebrated my birthday here and had the best treatment anyone could have asked for. They sure know how to make you feel special. Ruban will tell you all about the jungle animals you might be able to see while you’re here.
We were blessed to see whales every single day on our 7 day vacation. One day I even saw a few dolphins. We will for sure be coming back!

What an amazing place. Where to start? Prior to getting to the resort their reservation team was extremely helpful. Due to Covid I starting reviewing vacation destinations about a month out and booked a week out. During that time the reservation team always answered my many emails quickly which made it easy to have all the info I needed to book. Once I was ready to book they continued to be amazing. They set up roses in our room, helped with a few different excursions, arranged round trip transportation from the airport and back and set up Covid tests at the resort with a Dr for us.

Once we got to the resort it is more beautiful than online. This is where you want to go to avoid huge resorts and mass amounts of people. The rooms are spread out nicely, the staff wears masks and the guests are not required to. The food at the restaurant was very good and the drinks were all very good. The staff was also extremely nice, helpful and friendly. I also thought it was cool that the owner and his family were on the property and had a few conversations with him. I liked that family feel vs a big brand name resort.

We stayed in two different rooms. First we stayed in Villa 5 for three days then Ixchel Penthouse for three days. Both rooms were beyond our expectations. The views were so pretty and the overall vibe from the rooms were very relaxing. There are no TV's, no phones. You come here to unplug and relax. Wifi was ok but again try to unplug. I will say if you are a light sleeper pick your room carefully. I am a light sleeper and was ok in Villa 5 but I did not sleep from about 1 am to 5 am in Ixchel due to the ocean being so loud and the room being very close to the ocean. Villa 5 is back a little bit and there are less rocks so I was ok in that room.

This is not a place to come and party. The restaurant and bar close around 9ish most nights and there is nothing to do after. Bring cards, or be happy just listening to the waves and relaxing

We rented golf carts a few times and went to town which was a lot of fun. The horse back ride was cool.

We plan on going back for sure!!

This was a perfect location to celebrate our Leap Year Anniversary (#9), understated luxury, beautiful location, wonderful food, and the most exceptional staff! We truly loved our stay and are already planning to return!
BUT, next time, we will book at the ocean NOT in Bird Canyon. And we'll book well in advance where we have more choice. With limited room selection due to booking in the fall, we chose the two story cabin Cenzontle, which boasted a view of the mountains , a full kitchen, and use of a golf cart for the entire stay. And these features were great - and necessary in the case of the golf cart because, unbeknownst to us, Bird Canyon is NOT in the resort proper, but about a half a mile up the hill on a windy, cobble stoned road which provides access to the entire area of homes and other resorts. Every morning at 5:30 am the traffic starts - revving trucks and motorcycles, literally just outside our upstairs bedroom window. So sleep was greatly affected and tranquility is important to us. To be fair, they did supply ear plugs (we naively thought they for the birds in the morning)....but the traffic doesn't lighten up until at least 10pm so sitting on the deck outside is not really an option - plus one of our neighbours played the bongos (badly) at all hours of the day......So, DO go to this amazing place, but book early and, unless you enjoy the sound of traffic, avoid Cenzontle. I wish I'd known this prior to my booking.....

Yes, there is complementary bottled water in the rooms. The water out of the taps is fine for bathing but not recommended for drinking. There were people body surfing and swimming in the ocean but probably best for strong swimmers. There is also a lovely pool overlooking the ocean.
