The Maré is a family owned guest house offering traditional Algarve bed and breakfast accommodation and self-catering apartments. We are situated right in the heart of the quaint fishing village of Salema, enjoying spectacular views over the white sandy beach to the ocean beyond. There are a dozen bar / restaurants in Salema, a couple of gift shops, two mini markets to purchase your provisions and a couple of ATM's for your banking needs. Salema also has an activity outlet located directly off the beach from where you can hire kayaks and paddle boards, arrange a game of golf at the local course, organise boat trips, horse riding trails and walking tours. Tickets for the main water park in Lagoa can also be purchased there. Free Wi-Fi is offered during your stay. All of our apartments have fully equipped kitchens, and all of our B&B rooms has private bathrooms.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed in a lovely, exquisitely clean, small apartment with a large terrace and about a 45 degree view of the ocean. Plenty of closet space. Comfortable not too soft bed. An efficient bathroom with shower that did not feel cramped. A sitting room and a dining table that folds away. We always ate outside. The apartment had a full kitchen, with fridge and sink and two burner stove induction stove top. (Tip for Americans the key to turning it on is get the pan on the burner first and then linger on the the on/off button a moment longer than you expect.) We asked the maid for permission to hang out laundry to dry, so that made a hand wash and air dry much easier than finding a laundry. Daniela the manager is very attentive and helpful via text any time she is not on the property. Family bonus, her husband Daniel runs The Way Tours and will rent you a kayak or bike as well as set you up with a kayaking tour of the Sea Caves out of Lagos. Those adventures were highlights of our stay in Portugal.

We chose this hotel based on Rick Steves' recommendations, and we were not disappointed! It is located not too far from the beach and has spectacular views.
Our room Praia Santa was extremely clean and smelled so fresh and inviting when we first entered it! The room had a quiet a/c and a beautiful wall unit, cleverly designed, so it was both practical and elegant. The breakfasts were good (we chose the self-served option in a lovely breakfast area), and the freshly brewed coffee pot for two each morning was an utter delight!
Daniela, who runs the place, was always available and tried to satisfy our needs. She has packed a wonderful breakfast-to-go package for us on our last day of stay when we were away on tour and had to leave very early next morning.
We highly recommend this place for staying in Salema and we hope to return in the future.

We rented the top floor apartment with gorgeous views, extremely clean and Daniela and her staff were absolutely amazing. The location is ideal, especially if you are a family with teenagers - you can come and go to the beach easily and stores/restaurants around to purchase snacks, meals, etc. We absolutely loved our trip and are already planning a trip to return!

Our stay at the Salema apartment, which is a roof top loft, was simply perfect.
We did not miss anything at all in the very well equipped, spacious and clean apartment. There is so much space to place all your things you are traveling with. The apartment has beautiful rooms and a super kitchen with all equipment you need to cook something. Even salt, pepper, oil and acid was there, for preparing a salad, a toaster, oven and all kind of dinnerware. We enjoyed the terrace very much, with that unique look over Salema and the ocean. The beautiful beach is just 5 minutes away. Our daily afternoon relaxing session after the beach walk ended usually on the sun lounger on our terrace, reading a book, having a cold drink, while looking to the beach and the ocean from time to time, listening to the waves. This was so enjoyable, so relaxing and a recreation. This is a heavenly place, which I rated 5 stars on google maps already. Even the breakfast was 100% to our needs and taste, well selected with fruits on top, again perfect for us.
We had a very nice time at your place in 6 days and really like to come back!
Thanks to Bärbel and Daniela for your helpful tips and information .
Best Regards

We really enjoyed our stay at A Maré in the beautiful laid back beach town of Salema in the Algarve area. We were nearing the end of a 6week tour of 3 countries and A Mare was the perfect spot to just relax, read, nap and enjoy the beautiful view from the perfect patio just steps from our spotlessly clean en-suite room. (Apartments available as well)The reception area, which includes a hot and cold water dispenser along with coffee and tea options,is always open. Daniela and Barbara are the perfect duo to answer any and all questions you might have. Short, but steep walk down to the beach and restaurant area. Two different grocery stores are also within a 10 minute walk. My guess would be that this place books up fast. I booked 6 months ahead and got the only available room. Lucky us!

Very nice location with lovely views, nice outside patios, updated bathrooms, convenient and clean. However parking advertised was not available and the rules with fines were unwelcome such as no toilet paper in toilet, take out your own trash which was about a block away including your used toilet paper. You also had to wash your dishes for pay a fine. The attitude seemed more like a Hostile.

It was great! The apartment was amazing! Awesome view! Salema is a nice little fishing town with great restaurants to eat fish and shellfish! The beach is also great with a lot of space. Not all beaches in Algarve are like this during the summer. The host really took care of all our needs! Odd note: I really value shower temperature and pressure and I was thrilled with the shower!

we stayed in the loft room - it was comfortable and a good value. There is a skylight right over bed that allows great ventilation but A/C worked fine as well. If you come to Salema to spend time in a room then this small space would not be appropriate but there is balcony with table, chairs and umbrella that we used most of the time which allowed us to view the ocean. There are some stairs but well worth the climb for the view. Location is easy walking distance to everything Salema has to offer.

We stayed in one of the little studios. It was beautifully decorated, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The location was great with sea views and a 2 minute walk to the beach and restaurants. Check in and check out was easy and our stay was lovely!

A Maré is an exceptional inn in located in the small fishing village of Salema, Portugal. We stayed in one of their apartments, the Benegil and thoroughly enjoyed our week there. The patio and ocean views were stunning. The apartment was spotlessly clean and the staff were all welcoming and helpful. Daniela, the manager of A Maré, couldn’t have been more helpful when we ran into car difficulties. Her kindness will long be remembered.
Should we be lucky enough to return to Salema, we will definitely stay at A Maréonce again.

We were in Apt B. Pretty sure it was a queen. Email Betina directly. She communicates well. Sorry for the delay.
We stayed in Apt. B in the spring of this year. It is excellent. I'm sure breakfast isn't included in the apartments because they have kitchens but Bettina is a great host. Although I can't speak for her, I feel sure that she would include you in breakfast for a small up charge.
