Detailed Reviews
We had an extended stay in a 3-bedroom villa. It was spacious and the beds were great. The pool for the complex is lovely. The actual golf resort is located some distance away. I had the impression the resort cafes and restaurants are slowly reopening after the pandemic. There is nothing open in the villa complex, but plenty of good restaurants are located in town which is about a ten minute walk downhill. The surroundings are quiet and beautiful.

Just back from an wonderful stay in Salema. We've been once before and loved the old fashioned feel of the village, just like stepping back in time to Cornwall 30 years ago but with heat and sunshine.
We haven't stayed at the View before, but felt compelled to write about how lovely this complex is. Its a private development. We stayed in a great house with lovely views of the bay. The houses are finished to a very high finish and our house was beautifully furnished in a contemporary style with all white french style furniture.
The finishing touches were nice; quality bed linen, duck feathers pillows, beach towels, a library of up to date DVD's and books as well as a telescope and a very well equipped kitchen and BBQ made the house very comfortable.
The pool is very big and was quiet generally during our stay so we never had any issues with sun loungers.
We particularly enjoyed long lunches overlooking Salema & Zavial beach in the various restaurants. Fresh fish is a particular speciality.
Highlights of our trip were; the grotto boat trip & dolphin safari from Lagos, the surf beach at Amado and for me the spa at Parque da floresta.
Would recommend this villa and the holiday for families of any age. Salema is a very safe beach with lifeguard, however we went 10 mins up the road to very exciting west coast wild beaches for fun with our teenagers. The teenagers were also able to go out at night to the bars of Salema which they enjoyed with a 5 minute walk back home later.

We've now stayed at the View 2 or 3 times and love it, not just because the accommodation is such excellent quality, but because the resort, Salema, is our idea of what a Portuguese holiday should be all about - sleepy fishing village with amazing beaches and cliff top walks a bit reminiscent of Cornwall. As it's in the National Park there is a ban on high rise development and it's kept its authentic character. We have a young 4 year old and really appreciate a family-friendly atmosphere. We stayed at AT43, which we reckon must be one of the best villas because it's at the top of the resort and commands amazing views of the coastline. There's a jacuzzi on the roof-top terrace which gets the sun from dawn till dusk. Quite frankly, I would happily have spent my holiday there with a glass of Alentejo wine. I think it's a great place to stay if you want a quiet holiday. Just one gripe: we found our beach towels didn't arrive until day 2. Thoroughly recommend this place. We'll certainly be going back again.

Our family just returned from a week at the View 1 in Salema, Portugal. This is a brand new 55 unit clifftop development on the hill above Salema. The beach/village is a 7 minute walk (downhill) more on the way back (uphill). The development is affiliated with Parque da Floresta and guest share use of that resort's faclities as well as discounted rates for golf. Parque da Floresta is 3 km away so a car is required. There is an evening shuttle (seasonal) in the evening hours to transpoer guests from the View to the various restaurants at the main resort. The second phase- the View 2 is already under construction. It is across the road from the View 1 and large cranes and construction noise is a daily reality at the moment.
We stayed in a three bedroom village house. It was very spacious and the decor was very nice. There were outside decks or sitting areas off most rooms and a rooftop sitting area. The unit has all major appliances- a plus if you are a family and need to do laundry. The cuttlery and crockery is of reasonable quality but the unit lacked a few basics. We had to ask for a coffee maker (French press) and a teapot. Cookware is sparse and the unit does not provide anything more than the most basic kitchen supplies-i.e. dish soap and dishwashing liquid for a few uses. There is no salt and pepper, paper towels, tissues etc. though a bowl of fruit (apples and oranges) with a bottle of water was provided on arrival.
The pictures on the internet present the development in its most favourable light. We had a partial seaview only-it was distant and obstructed. The vistas depend on the location of each unit. Most will not have the panoramic view seen in the development's promotional materials. We were not really troubled by the construction noise from the View 2-it never began before 8am and seemed to finish by 5pm. We were located on the side furthest from the new construction which is perhaps why we were not bothered. It may be important to inquire when booking -at least until the construction is completed.
There is maid service twice weekly. We found them a little stingy with the toilet tissue and when we complained the situation was rectified immediately.
We got a very good rate for the week, likely because the development is new. We were told that it had only been open since June 1. There are still a few problems as a result. The electricity was not properly hooked up-cables seemed to be strung from unit to unit. The were fixing this when we were there. The pool is not heated-again due to some electrical issues. The restaurant offers a decent breakfast in the morning. It is open for lunch and dinner but service (and the food) is painfully slow even though the restaurant was essentially empty.
For those who must stay in touch with offices or home- there is no internet access in individual units, There is a small internet cafe in the village and fee based internet access at the main resort area of Parque da Floresta.
The resort boasts 24 hour reception. This is not the case-there was no one there when we checked out at 8am, Fortunately we had taken care of all the formalities the night before.
Our family used the tennis and golf facilities at Parque da Floresta. The golf course was good. Tennis was a major disappointment. It is expensive and the equipment offered for rental is of very poor quality. We rented golf clubs from an outside company that delivered clubs to our unit and picked them up on our last day. This was a fraction of what it would have cost to rent them from the resort.
Salema is a lovely fishing village. The beach has powder white sand and is not crowded. The ocean temperature was very cold -59F: needless to say we spent almost no time in the water! The pool at the resort was warmer but only marginally. We loved the small local restaurants and had some excellent meals in the village. Food was very fresh but service was always very slow no matter where we ate. It always took at least an hour from ordering until the food arrived. We were told that this is normal. The meals themselves were delicious.
The clifftop area of the View is very windy. The many visible wind turbines in the distance attest to this fact. It is less windy at the beach but there is still a breeze. We never needed airconditioning in our unit. We usually took a lightweight jacket in the evenings because of the strong breezes.
This is a reasonable development but it is not 5 star. It will likely improve over time once some of the bugs have been worked out. I suspect that standards may also vary from unit to unit. Staff is friendly and will quickly correct any problem that is brought to their attention .
Would we return? Though we spent a very pleasant week-likely not. The resort caters to tourists from the UK and Europe looking for a place in the sun. For them it is close and flights into Faro are quite frequent. It is a good base for exploring the western Algarve and some delightful small villages. That being said, for those of us from North America there are many other areas of the world that are closer with superior golf, beaches and other amenities.

We rented a two-bedroom for one night. They put us in a unit that hadn't been used for a long time. The air, the furniture, and the linens smelled like mold. The TV in the unit did not work and when we asked, at the front desk for maintenance to fix it, they told us that it was not possible. Last, but not least, there was no internet in the unit. We had to drive to their restaurant (not nearby) for internet service. I do NOT recommend this "resort."

We stayed in L11 which was just as described, an amazing view and a really beautifully laid out and equipped house. The owner had provided a list of good places to go with the family by email before we went and these turned out to be so useful as we had never been to Salema before. Must say all good fun and a delightful resort we definitely will come back.

Having stayed frequently at Parque Da Floresta, we decided to have a change and stay at The View (both owned by the same company-Vigia). We were delighted! The villa was exceptionally clean, well furnished and had every mod con that you could think of. The pool was a few steps away from the front door and again was very clean and tidy.Unfortunately the bar was only open until 5.00pm and perhaps it would have been better if it was open during the evening but in no way did that detract from the holiday. Salema-just down the hill- had excellent restaurants and bars to suit all tastes.
The view certainly lives up to its name... to wake up and see the beach and sea from the bedroom window was wonderful.
Thank you Vigia, you have wonderful resorts.

We have just returned from our second visit to this wonderful quiet and clean complex in the amazing fishing village that is Salema.
Our villa was in an amazing location andthe view was just breathtaking, I believe all the villas have similar views too. The pool never seems crowded or loud and there is certainly NO need to go out at 7am and put your towels on the beds!!!
The grounds and villas are very well kept and the gardens that surround the complex are very colouful and pretty.
Our villa was extremely clean, well- equipped and very comfortable. Whilst the view is spectacular as the complex is built into a cliff, the walk down to the beach and village can prove a little tricky but the walk back after a day on the beach is pretty damn tough!!
A wonderful place to visit for anyone who appreciates a typical, mainly unspoilt Portuguese holiday for some peace and quiet.

AL35, 2 bed, fantastic, spotless, lovely interior, 3 great balconies, two with stunning sea views. Complex itself very well maintained, including the pools. The reception area and bar are closed presently. Lovely weather with constant (lively!) breeze.Salema very pretty, relaxing with great restaurants. The best place we have ever stayed for both the accomodation and the resort itself, a definite return! We had a spa day at Park de floresta which was nice, treatments good although the spa area is a bit tired and bleak. Can recommend the family horse ride at Tiffanys and the dolphin boat trip.

+1
The view... well, the view is mostly there (there ARE houses without a sea view), although you may have to crane your neck a bit to enjoy it. The houses are nicely sized and the one we had was very nicely appointed (they may all be slightly different because they're privately owned and only rented out by Vigia). No complaints there.
The complaints, however, begin as soon as you need something. First, there is no "Welcome, this is how to use the house" leaflet or brochure, so you have to do your own exploring through closets, cupboards and drawers to hopefully find the instruction manuals you need. Second, they boast that Reception is open 24/7, but you need to know that the reception desk is not on-site (there is one, but no one has any clue when it will be manned, if ever) : you have to drive to the golf resort to get to it (inbcluding check in and check out). Then, the 24/7 is a Portuguese one, meaning Don't count on prompt telephone pickup when you call. On a good day, someone will pick up after 2 or 3 minutes of waiting, and otherwise the ringing will just stop after 4 or 5 minutes.
Then, assuming you managed to get ahold of someone (and they will not hesitate to let you know through their tone of voice how much you bother them by daring to request that the safe included in the rental price should be fixed !), there is the actual "doing" of things : yes, Housekeeping will bring the kitchen towels your are sorely missing ; yes, Maintenance will be down tomorrow morning first thing to repair the bed headboard that's broken ; yes, yes... promises... but then time passes and nothing happens. You have to ask again and again, then interrupt your vacation and get into your rental car to actually drive to Reception, which is the only way to have the slightest hope of obtaining anything.
The bottom line is, The View is a very nice place, but pray you have everything you need inside the house when you arrive, and pray nothing is broken or non-functional, because you better not need (nor expect) any kind of service from the personnel --and that is a major drawback. You have paid 100 percent upfront, you have left all your credit card numbers in case they decide you have done any damage to the property, so they don't have to worry... and you're at their mercy.
So, until service improves dramatically, I regret not to be able to recommend this place, and that's too bad because the houses are indeed very nice, and so is the village of Salema.

Yes the villa had wifi and air con.
Sorry, we don't have small children. The villa we rented was privately owned, as I think they all are, so not aware of any babysitting service at all. There are not really any on-site facilities, except for the pool. The restaurant/bar looks as though it has never been opened.
For any services etc, you would need to use the sister site which is a 10 minute drive away.
Not on the complex but it's only a 10 min walk down to the village & I know several did a breakfast
