We are set in an historic and restored 1886 Heritage New Zealand villa. We have only 3 ensuite guest rooms, chances are if we are not busy you will have the whole place to yourself! Furnished with stunning Victorian antiques, English wallpapers, and fine fabrics, our aim is to make you feel special. We offer full cooked breakfast served by candlelight in the breakfast room, with a roaring fire in winter, or out on the terrace. All double rooms have modern en-suites, some with baths. We have great local knowledge and can recommend places to visit. We can make a grazing platter for you, and cater for gluten free and vegan if required. Pheasant Lodge finished its renovations in August 2002 and has been open since September 2022 with 5 star reviews. We built it for people to have fun, enjoy this wonderful historic property with friends and family, and for an excuse for me buy nice antiques and single malt whiskies for me, so far its working!

Detailed Reviews
Step through the front door into another world, one where Hermann Hesse might be sitting by the fire in the drawing room or you may think youve entered an Amsterdam olde worlde hotel just off one of the canals around Centraal. Everything you may require is catered for, its a luxe stay in a rustic Paparoa setting with beautiful Pahi at the end of a finger poked into the unparalleled Kiapara harbour. Ok, so there was no urn of Dutch hot chocolate in the hall, but it was March and the outdoor dining was just as embracing and alluring - even the patina on the from-Kabul steel balustrades has a story to tell.

What a wonderful stay! We arrived earlier than expected, and the owner, Tony was very accommodating. The room was perfect, down to the decorative English bulldog pillow. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower worked wonderfully. The entire house is filled with beautiful and interesting antiques and art, and the outside entertaining area is filled with the sound of lovely birds and a view of the gardens. The location was great for checking out the Kaori Museum, and the countryside is beautiful. Tony is a fantastically interesting host and it was a pleasure to talk to him. He also makes a great steak accompanied by veggies fresh from the garden, and an equally wonderful breakfast! I would highly recommend a stay here. If you don't, you're missing out!

Wow, what an excellent bed and breakfast lodge. We have just had 2 nights - our room was lovely with a good size ensuite and soaker tub . The Owners Tony and Maggie are so welcoming and would do anything for you - we was made to feel very special. The service, food and accomodation deserves 5 stars. Highly recommend checking the lodge out. We will def be back.

I had a wonderful stay here. It is such a stunning eclectic home with fantastic hosts who go above and beyond. The decor is gorgeous and feels like home away from home. Lovely outdoor area to sit and enjoy the sun. Would definitely stay here again if I’m in the area.

As wonderful as this late 19th Century, historic-registered house is, the best thing about Pheasant Lodge are the owners, Tony and Maggie. They are great cooks – the breakfast stacker is to die for – but they are even better and more fascinating people. They have both led interesting lives and have lived and been all over the world. They couldn’t be nicer.
Tony has restored this historic house and has furnished it with antiques he has collected throughout his life, plus others bought specifically for it. The dining room is elegant; you feel like you are in a BBC period piece. The bedrooms are nicely sized and comfortable. Contrasting with all of the antiques, the bathroom fixtures are sleek, modern and top-of-the-line.
The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The grapevine covered arbor and the jasmine covered deck offer most-pleasant outdoor seating.
We had a wonderful stay at Pheasant Lodge, and would happily return if we are ever in the area again.
