We are not a hotel, not a motel, not a farm stay, not a bed and breakfast, not a roadhouse, but we ARE an Australian outback mixture of all these things. While we are a general service center, even more important to your fun &comfort is our Beer Garden, "Kimberley North". Offering shaded tables, coldbeer, good food and on cold nights a log fire all combine to ensure it is the hub of the North Kimberley. We now also offer new air conditioned accommodation rooms with en suite. Choices of Queen bed or king size single beds are available.

We stayed at DRS in May 2019 (the drop-down wouldn't allow this date) and I never wrote a review, so here goes.
We flew around the Kimberley in early May 2019 and decided to make a stop here between Broome and Kununurra so that we could visit Mitchell falls. I had quite a bit of email correspondence with Anne and Otto in the months prior to our arrival and found them to be very prompt with replies, and most helpful with arranging and making adjustments to the accommodation we required. They even trucked in a 44 gal drum of avgas for us and supplied a pump and hose. We buzzed the homestead when we arrived and the manager, Shane, was at the airstrip to greet us when we taxied in. This bloke was a wealth of Kimberley knowledge and had all the answers, and I liked the fact that he was the smiling face behind the bar saying “G’day Paul, another beer mate?” My 2 travel companions (a not as young as me couple) took a newer ensuite room while I had a basic single. The ensuite room was, to say the least, impressive for this remote part of the world, brand new, clean, it even had wheelchair access which was great for Bob as he was on crutches after an op on both ankles. My room, although obviously older and more basic was clean and bright and had everything I needed. The shower facilities were close by and also clean and well looked after. The evening meal was a home cooked buffet roast, very good and plenty of it while the bar was well stocked with lovely cold beers and quality Australian wines. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming; most called me by name which I found amazing as I’d never been here before. I met the GM, Anne on the second night and had a bit of a yarn with her about days gone by in the Kimberley and their lifestyle here. She’s a lovely lady and a true Kimberley identity. For the 2 nights that we were there they catered for busloads of European tourists and a constant stream of 4wd travellers with fuel, camp sites, meals and drinks and all went like clockwork. I can’t fault Drysdale River Station or her people, truly salt of the earth. Thanks Anne! Thanks Otto! Thank you Shane! Look forward to seeing you all again, hopefully in 2021.

After the privations of tented lodgings, it was a modest luxury to have traditional motel-type accommodations so far out of the mainstream. These are not brand name lodgings with numbers of stars but they were honest and comfortable and rated well in our estimation because of what they offer where they are.

The good: our room – and I believe that they are all much the same – was clean, quiet, bright, reasonably comfortable and simply furnished with a double and single bed. The ensuite bathroom was similarly minimal but everything expected was there and it all worked as expected. The beds were comfortable, the linens clean and we were each able to find a satisfactory pillow. Meals, included in our tariff, were wholesome and tasty and taken at the nearby homestead bar/restaurant. There is Telstra 4G phone/data service in the area and Wifi around the bar/restaurant. There are also shared washing facilities around the accommodations. All the staff that we encountered were efficient and helpful.
The not so good: not much to report here but this is some way from being a modern luxe facility however it is very good for where it is.

We stayed at Drysdale River Station for three nights during which we took a 2.5 hour scenic flight. Two adults and two kids. Although quite pricy, it was a great experience for the adults. Not for the kids. Probably for weight reasons our children (8 and 11) were placed either all the way in the back of the 7-seater aircraft (miss 8) or the second row from the back (mr 11). The way the plane is shaped and the position of the windows resulted in both kids being unable to actually see anything but blue sky! I propped the youngest one up using our jumpers and backpack but even then she could not poke her head high enough to see the scenery. The back of the aircraft is also where all the fumes collected and this inevitably resulted in both kids getting motion sick and me catching their vomit with the provided vomit bags. The 2.5 hour flight turned into a nightmare for them and our son kept on asking the pilot when he would turn the plane around, please. What a waste of money for the kids, despite the $50 kids discount. Outside of the vomit-fest, I did enjoy the scenery and Matt’s knowledge of the area.

If you’re considering taking kids, ask if they can sit near the front, bring pillows, wet wipes and pop some motion sickness tablets.

On our way to Drysdale Station from McGowans Beach we damaged a tyre with about 200km to go. Fortunately our spare got us there, next morning i checked in with the office about a replacement tyre, they had the very tyre in stock and fitted and back on the road mid morning at a very competitive price. Well done

The shared area was functional and the staff helpful. The accommodation was small and simple but met my needs: keep me warm when cold; keep me cool (via aircon) when hot - quiet; adequate washing/shower facilities. Some fun touches (an old style pay telephone kept inside a fridge.

Obviously options are limited in the area, however our stay at Drysdale River Station was average even for outback standards. We stayed one night in a cabin room, which while very basic and we understood that, it was a poor night.
The single bed was broken in the spring base and legs. Squeaking and leaning to one side.
The blue bath towels were moulting and we ended up with blue fluff everywhere.
Annie's bar was good for a drink and a tremendous buffet feed-lashings of good basic fare.

Response from Anne Koeyers, Owner at Drysdale River Station

Hi Craig, Very sorry you had bed issues. Can you possibly email me direct and tell me which room you stayed in please, staff can't seem to find the problem bed and yours is the only complaint we have had. Don't know which room you stayed in. Will replace bed when we figure out which one it is. Yes agree you regarding the towels, they did that since the day they were new and didn't cease to loose fluff even after multiple washes, I thought we'd thrown every single one of them out! Must have missed some, worst towels I have every purchased. So sorry about that. Glad you enjoyed the bar and the meals. cheers, Anne

Very good food but accomodation was very bad and expensive. Small tired unpleasant stifling rooms. They were horribly overpriced. It’s not about remoteness because we paid just a bit more for dream accommodation and wonderful meals at Mitchell Falls Wilderness Lodge. Shame on you Drysdale Station.

We stayed at Drysdale Station for two nights on our Gibb River Road trip.
It’s a great location especially if you are going to head up to Mitchell Falls. Even if you are not going to drive there are flight options.
There is great river crossing waterhole nearby which was perfect for swimming and hiking.

My only reservation would be that the site and staff were employed by Spirit of the Outback and seemed geared to supporting those tours. As an independent group we found them a bit officious. It seemed it was more important to enforce the rules ….had to book dinner by 2pm, last orders at 8pm, fire out by 8.30. Weren’t really made to feel like customers compared to the APT camps and the independent stations.

We had a comfortable but basic room in a block of four. It was hidden away from the main part of the station behind an oasis garden. The twin beds were comfortable, and the water was hot.
There was a pleasant beer garden to enjoy a drink while the sun went down. Dinner was a buffet with plenty of choice. Dessert was a generous serve. The paths between the bar/dining area and the accommodation were well lit.

Friendly staff in the shop and bar. Nice hamburgera for lunch, didnt do the smorgasbord for dinner. Outside bar has a lovely green area to relax and have lunch or a drink or two. Camp ground nicely shaded. Amenities old but no issues. We enjoyed out stay!!
