Detailed Reviews
I made reservations online and was not disappointed. The photos and descriptions of the rooms were accurate and I was pleased with my quarters. Love the book-based decor! The bed was comfortable and room was cozy. Breakfast was served outdoors on the porch, and it was a tad nippy but our hostess provided warm blankets and the coffee was hot and the food outstanding. This is a great find!

Please don't let the plain exterior of this B&B fool you. When my husband and I arrived later than expected and exhausted at 11:30pm, we were thrilled to find a lit, warm, welcoming interior. There were biscottis and coffee left out for us and a friendly note telling us where to find our room. The room was clean, charming, and the perfect size for the two of us.
The next morning, we went downstairs to a peaceful, bright breakfast room and a set table. It was beautifully decorated with books and interesting trinkets. A large selection of tea and coffee awaited us. Our friendly host soon appeared and asked what we wanted for breakfast. We munched on homemade peach scones (DELICIOUS) and savoured the eggs benedict over spinach.
The host was friendly and nice. I appreciated that she was very welcoming but not overwhelmingly chatty. I would recommend this B&B to everyone and anyone!

We just spent 2 night at the Lyttleton Inn . We stayed in the Four Seasons room. I cannot even describe how awesome everything was at this B & B !! The room was immaculate and beautifully furnished . The bed was the most comfortable bed I think I’ve ever slept in ! The breakfast both mornings was fresh and delicious. Mary , the innkeeper is just the best hostess you could ever want !!!

I WAS. vety pleased to have found what I thought was a true B n B in the area.
My elderly father lives roughly 90 minutes away from me and roughly 30 minutes from the inn. I hoped to plan a visit with him this July and to stay at the inn both to break up the day and to get a Covid-era night away.
Mary initially was nice and said that she would pencil me in for the desired might. She also mentioned that she regularly has guests from a local hospice. Hence, I assumed that she was used to the quirks of seniors.
Mary additionally mentioned that the next two weeks, which was graduation season for the area prep schools, were busy.
My retired father would not commit to a visit on the discussed date when I emailed him after speaking to Mary. He repeated roughly two weeks later, which was roughly one month before the proposed date, that it still was too far out to commit to a visit.
I called the inn roughly two weeks ago and left a message, consciously leaving the landline number from which I was calling and that presumably left caller ID information, stating that I still wanted to come. I specifically requested flexibility if possible but stated that I would fully commit to a reservation if necessary.
Again, understanding the challenges of running a small inn, I had faith that Mary would call back.
I just called today, and Mary answered the telephone. She told me that she now was entirely booked up the week that i wanted to come. I strongly suspect that she had the chance to full the place with a group that week and did not want to book one room that might.
Mary was told when we spoke that I write travel reviews under a name other than my given name. However, we extensively discussed used my given name.
Today, Mary used my use of two names as a pretense to there being another name when she allegedly called to state that I would need to firmly commit to a reservation, which I would have.
When asked what number she called, Mary responded that she would have to dig for it.
I closely monitor both caller ID data and messages on both my landline and my cell phone. I can say with complete certainty that Mary never called either number and did not leave a message. It seems as well that, based in our conversation and my subsequent message, she would have considered a lack of response by me surprising and would have made a second try to reach me. I seriously doubt that she tried at all,
The inn only having five rooms is part of its appeal. My experience is that this also presents the risk of a reservation being pulled out from under you if a better deal comes along.
I never yelled at Mary in the conversation that we just had; I did hang up on her. I suspect that she will reference that in her response to this post.

We spent two days at the Lyttleton Inn and the experience was incredible. Mary, the innkeeper was gracious, accommodating, and simply put, exceptional. She attended to our every need while staying at her beautifully decorated, warm, and inviting inn. We went for my husband's 50th birthday and his flying lesson was canceled due to snow. Mary spent time giving us suggestions of different things to do in the area and turned what could have been a disastrous day into the weekend of a lifetime! When we came "home" Saturday evening to our utter delight she had even baked a three layer birthday cake for my husband! I cannot say enough good things about the Lyttleton Inn...the decor is wonderful...the rooms have so many little touches that set this Bed and Breakfast apart from others we have visited...from spring water to dark chocolate to even bath poufs in the bathroom...truly a home away from home.

My daughter and I stayed here for three days in late June. The house is charming, cozy, and clean. The decor selection gives you that historic vibe for a B&B. Our room was on the smaller side, and I would have preferred fewer chairs in favor of space.
Mary, the owner, was a gracious and thoughtful host. She shared with us a lot of information about the town and its schools. She would only make breakfast when you are ready to have it (we were late waking up one day, so this was great!), which meant your food is always freshly made.

Just came back from the Littleton Inn. My fiancé and I are not usually B&B type, but this place looked adorable, The inn was excellent; Mary was great! Quaint little New England B&B at it's best. Hoping to go back in the very near future. Not enough good things to say.

I am writing this review in January 2015, but my husband and I have been here multiple times throughout the last 2-3 years and we thoroughly enjoy it every time. Mary is an excellent innkeeper and a superb chef. Her breakfasts are fresh and delicious. The food she serves is so much better than the food you would usually get at hotels. The rooms are absolutely charming and the beds are really comfortable. We have stayed in the Mariner and The Four Seasons and both rooms are superb. I believe the Four Seasons is their biggest room and it has a beautiful bathroom with a great tub. Mary is really the greatest innkeeper I have ever met. She helps you plan out your trip and offers great suggestions on things to see and do. She also has a bunch of brochures and travel books to help you decide or to guide your way. Overall, she and her family are just wonderful people and make staying there a real delight. My husband and I would spend time after eating her delicious breakfast just sitting and chatting with Mary. Sometimes her husband Tom or one of her kids would come by, and they are all excellent to chat with also. There library is magnificent and has so many books that there's bound to be something in there you any person would find interesting. There is also a small television, numerous periodicals, and board games in there so even if a person isn't a book lover there is still something they can enjoy in the library.

As with every business, there is always someone to describe an unfortunate experience. In our case, we found any kind of less then positive comment fruitless. Mary, the Innkeeper, is a dedicated and passionate person about her work and her customers. This reflects in the quality of the service and personal attention she brings to each of her guests. We stayed in the Blue and White room called the Mariner which is charming. Mary's homemade breakfasts are legendary. We happen to have the Eggs Benedict and it was a delight. The rooms are TV free (but all have Wifi) which makes this Inn a perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy the charm of the Inn. We strongly recommend this Inn for a relaxing and enjoyable time.

+1
My husband and I just got back from our first stay at the Lyttleton Inn. The Innkeeper Mary is very welcoming and made us feel right at home. We were coming from Maryland and I was worried we wouldn't make it during the check-in hours so I called to let her know we would be running late. She was very accommodating and was there when we arrived to show us around. We stayed in the Four Seasons and it was a very nice room. Very clean, comfy, nice bathroom with a jacuzzi bathtub and separate shower. There are some common areas that we enjoyed as well. The living room, which is very relaxing, offers coffee throughout the day, homemade toffee biscotti which are to die for, and port in the evenings. The Tea Room/Dining Room has the makings for a great cup of tea anytime day or night. Now for the breakfasts! Every morning we were warmly greeted by Mary and she specially made decaf coffee for me. We had so many great breakfasts while there: Cinnamon rolls, Frittatas, Pumpkin Scones, Fruit with granola and yogurt, Eggs Benedict, Cranberry Bread, French Toast, and Gingerbread Waffles with a Blackberry sauce. Everything was delicious!! My husband and I loved the food. During our stay there were other people with some food allergies or preferences and Mary was very accommodating to make them something that worked for them. We enjoyed talking with Mary and getting to know her. She gave us some great tips on places to go and things to see. The Inn is located in a fairly small town but isn't a far drive from anywhere you want to go. We saw Boston, Plymouth, Salem, and Quincy while staying at the Inn. If you are thinking about staying at the Lyttleton Inn don't hesitate! You will really enjoy it! Thank you Mary for making us feel so welcome and being so accommodating. We will be back!
