Detailed Reviews

While I didn't stay at the hostel, I did participate in a day trip that Brent led in the Golden Bay region. It was a wonderful experience, and we managed to see so much that day in a corner of the Southern Island that most people don't get to see. Thanks Brent!

This place has it all. A beautiful, quiet farm with lots of friendly animals, with a stunning view overlooking the bay up to the sea and perfectly clean, large rooms & facilities. But what makes this place special is its hosts. You do believe that they really want you to have the perfect stay and experience...they will be there for you! We have been taken on a tour and to places we would never have found by reading tour guide books and received lots of advice that really have been worth following. It's been astonishing. These guys know their place and share their knowledge. Our stay here has turned into one of those we keep talking about the most of this trip around the South Island. And we've been around quite a bit. An absolute recommendation for those who like pancakes, fun, fires, fishing, food, friendliness, hospitality, people, to sleep in, individuality, travels, animals, sports, stars, bikes, mountains and rivers, beaches and the ocean, love and their life, ...

Fabulous place to stay. Fantastic service, friendly hosts, exceptionally clean, amazing views, great breakfast with proper coffee. We ended up staying much longer than we planned to as we were having such a brilliant time. The reviews were all correct and we were pleased we went by what was written on trip advisor. One highlight was the trip up to see the sun set from the highest lookout point in New Zealand that is definitely not written in any of the guide books. Thank you Trevor and Brent for such a fantastic time. I will be back....

What a treasure this place is! Farm stay, B&B, Backpackers and home base after a Get Real Adventure filled day.
The vibe at Get Real is relaxed and comfortable. All the facilities are superb, clean and well maintained. And the 360 degree views surrounding this lovely, rustic homestead are stunning.
Brent whips up an awesome breakfast complete with great coffee. It's the perfect start to a new day before heading out for a day trip exploring the region.
Only adventurous locals could know all of these gems. It’s a wonderful way discover a place, experience new things and meet new friends. We ended our excursion at Mapua wharf with the best ever fish & chips and dancing away to the live band. And some lucky ones got to experience travelling back home with Trevor on his Harley Davidson.
Brent and Trevor are great and will truly look after you. And if you're wondering how much more you can explore the region, these local lads are the ones give advice and set it all up.
I'm coming back. This is my new favourite part of NZ and I'm not finished with it. And at Get Real, I'm yet to swim in the pool, bathe in the outdoor tub and sleep under the stars! Five stars all round! Thanks guys.

To be honest, Get Real has been the most homebringing backpacker I've visited. I got treated like a family member and got invited to riverbathing, hunting, local tours, cosy evenings at the bonfire and a great Newyears BBQ. I thought they got payed to keep beeing friendly, but no; They put all their effort in the backpackers as if it's one massive life project. Highly recommendable.

Get Real Backpackers is a lovely spot near Nelson and we are staying longer than planned, because the hostel is so beautiful and the owner is really taking very good care of the guests. He took us on a tour through the Takaka region to places we would not have found by ourselves. I can really recommend the place. It is one of the best places to stay on our tour through NZ.

Great place to stay in Nelson with magnificent views. Huge, clean rooms. Owner is amazing and so helpful. Really accommodating as they allowed us to bring our dog! Loved the free breakfast, the pancakes are awesome. Will 100% go back next time we visit Nelson.

This large house is essentially for backpackers but it is also available to rent the entire place via Bookabach. That is what I did and I took my wife, daughter, son-in-law and their three children for a week's stay. All the essential facilities are there plus a lot of nice extras, like bikes, a go cart, a pool table, a clean swimming pool, and a friendly dog called Rugger. The hilltop location is very peaceful with a view down the valley towards Nelson, which is about a half hour drive away. There is a useful grocery store in nearby Wakefield. Communications with the owner were good and there were few rules and regulations. Recommended for a family and friends getaway holiday.

After being a bit tired from hostels and the 'Where do you come from - where are you going"- talk, it was a relief to stay at Get Real Backpackers for a couple of days. What a view over (the bay of) Nelson, how friendly and helpfull Joeline is and her boyfriend Trevis is really good fun! I was the only person staying there at that moment, and having my own room, toilet and bathroom was great. Unfortunately, I didn't travel by car so, if no one was around, I went hitch hiking to one of the places near the beach. Which was okay and ofcourse it's interesting to meet locals giving you a hitch, a view times they even brought me back all the way up the hill (10 minutes walk) to Get Real, but if you're not that much into hitch hiking and you don't have a car, it can be a hazzle.
However: I loved to stay there and have good memories of my time in Wakefield.
