Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a return trip to Candlebay Inn for us. As on our previous visit, we found our room immaculately clean. Connie and her staff are always helpful and friendly to all of the guests. Breakfast is served from 8-9:30 am and it varies every day. All of the items are fresh or homemade. There is plenty of parking available and it is easy to enter and exit. We will be back

The Candlebay Inn is a warm and cozy bed and breakfast situated within walking distance of L.L. Bean and other shops in Freeport. The host was friendly and the rooms were clean and cheerful. The breakfast was delightful and consisted of a variety of homemade goodies. An extra bonus is that Connie welcomes pets. Judy and Alan Centerville, Ohio

First step into how wonderful Maine is! This B & B was built in 1848 (ish). Our hostess was amazing! So kind and helpful! There were several of us that had to leave before 7:45am; breakfast was to start at 8am. Our hostess was able to change breakfast to 7:30am! Now, I would like to mention - this B&B is over 150 YEARS OLD!!! The floor creaks, the doors stick, all of these things make the venue that much more amazing! If you are looking for shiny new amenities may I suggest the Holiday Inn a little was down Main Street. If you are looking for a places with LOTS of charm and a friendly, congenial atmosphere - the CandleBay Inn is for you!

This was our second visit to this B&B although the last time was 10 years ago when it was under different ownership. We have a small dog which can be limiting when it comes to accomdations in Freeport. As it was on our 1st visit, Candlebay is still pet friendly so we booked a room. Upon arrival we were greeted promptly by the friendly owner that showed us to our room. Everything was clean and the bed comfortable. The inn is within a short walk to LL Bean and other outlets. Breakfast was excellent and consisted of an assortment of muffins along with an excellent variation of French toast. We'd recommend Candlebay to anyone looking for welcoming accommodations in Freeport

Great location, food and friendly host. Recommended for a dog-friendly BNB in a prime location. Would definitely stay here again. Showers in some rooms are a bit small so make sure you check the room pics before choosing.

We stayed here for one very comfortable night. Bedroom was well-equipped with everything we could need, and while the shower was tiny we were warned about this and offered an alternative upon arrival. We decided that it was fine for one night. Owner was very friendly and helpful, and the Inn itself is beautiful and well-kept, and in easy walking distance of the shops and restaurants. Breakfast plentiful and very tasty. We would certainly stay again if in the area!

Stayed here with family. The area was pretty quiet and the outlets & amazing restaurants are within walking distances. The bathroom had a heating light winch we all loved. The beds were very firm and the pillows were ok. Breakfast was also good.

Candlebay Inn has everything you hope for in a B&B: cozy atmosphere, comfortable rooms, private baths, delicious breakfasts. And some lovely extras: a pleasant common room, a spacious dining area with a spot by the entry where you can pick up hot & cold drinks (& coffee cake!) during the day, and — the source of all these positive aspects — an exceptional hostess. Connie was unfazed by our very late arrival (we had warned her of our ETA) & left a detailed handwritten note in our room explaining how everything works there, including the times for coffee (6 a.m.) and breakfast (8 - 9:30 a.m.). During our weeklong stay my husband and I observed Connie chasing after a departing guest who had forgotten her fresh fish purchase stashed in the fridge, graciously accommodating several guests’ physical disabilities, and offering rides to guests who didn’t have rental cars (“I’m going that way to the store, happy to drop you off.”) If you do have a car you’ll appreciate the parking area. I highly recommend this establishment. Almost forgot: Larry the Lobster! You gotta love a place with a mascot like this.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Candlebay Inn! This clean, comfortable, and cozy inn is our all-time favorite. The hostess was so warm and welcoming and the location is perfect. Breakfasts were scrumptious! Our little doggie was happily welcomed. Will definitely return.

This was the second time that we stayed at this cozy inn. Both times we were very happy with the Candlebay. This innkeeper is just lovely and everything (shopping and restaurants) is within easy walking distance. Can't wait to go again.
