The four-star Basingstoke Country Hotel is surrounded by mature woodland and provides a serene, relaxing setting for any holiday or special occasion. Just off the M3 yet surrounded by thatched cottage villages, it has 100 air-conditioned bedrooms, including 12 premium rooms and 9 deluxe room. It is an ideal base for exploring the cathedral cities of Winchester, Salisbury and Chichester and the unspoilt beauty and wild ponies of the New Forest. With attractive landscaped courtyards, Health & Leisure Club with indoor swimming pool, and Scures Brasserie restaurant serving local food, it's a great spot for relaxing after a day of sightseeing.
From the outside this hotel looks much more grandiose then when you walk inside. I found the staff very helpful and friendly. A few problems with the room the sink didn’t have a plug but upon ringing reception someone came up instantly and gave us a new plug, this plug subsequently leaked but we wound up using another solution when trying to clean our baby’s bottles. The towel rail in the room although it said “caution extremely hot” actually didn’t work and none of our towels dried the shower curtain had a bit of grime round it. We ate dinner Saturday night in the Brasserie and I have to say the food was delicious the service was OK we all cleared our plates and breakfast was also very delicious with lots of choice. I wouldn’t stay here again as you have to pay for the swimming pool and WiFi , but our stay wasn’t too bad and actually quite enjoyable I didn’t see any spa? Tbh I wasn’t really looking but the spa bit wasn’t obvious.
Do not take your wife here. It looks grand, but really isn't. After a 1-hour check-in experience, I went to dinner. I ordered the most expensive dish on the menu, photo below. I should add, that just after I took the photo, some lettuce arrived. The stairwell leading up to my room hadn't been hoovered in over a century and stank of mould. Definately a good place if you are homeless, or think that Holiday Inn is 5-star. Otherwise, avoid at all costs.
Currently sat in a room where the TV doesn't work properly, the bathroom taps don't work and the bathroom in general is dirty and unclean. I was booked through work and I will be telling them that the hotel is not suitable for business or any traveler for that matter. Trust the reviews about this place as it really is a throwback from 1940 and very worn everywhere
What a horrible night we had, booked well in advance and had no notification of a xmas party booked. Music was blaring and made everything vibrate in our room. Had a terrible night with no sleep! Management was extremly rude and very unhelpful. All the glasses in the pub were dirty and not cleaned properly. We had dirty laundry in our room, the list goes on. Would not recommend this establishment, very dissapointed.
I shall start positive - the staff in the restaurant are helpful, friendly and very attentive. One lady took the hand of a little toddler and led her to her table with very relieved parents looking on. So this place isn’t all that bad .... however ... £9.45 for 2 small diet cokes and a small beer? Seems steep. Biggest issue was the room we were in.
The room was huuuuge, so no complaints about space. We had a family room on the second floor and paid (including breakfast) £100+ per night.
1) light switch on wall dangerously loose. You could turn the lights on in the bathroom by touching the surround next to the switch. 2) plug socket in wall also very loose 3) floorboards incredibly uneven. The carpet appears to be the only thing under your feet as there appeared to be holes in the floor. Husband and I felt like we could do a parody of the ending of Grease when they’re on the fairground fun-house ride with the floor moving underneath their feet. 4) two pieces of carpet in middle of room did not join and one curled up creating a trip hazard. 5) window open when we arrived making the room freezing. Think this was to cover the very musty smell in there. 6) plug in sink got stuck all the time. 7) no lights near mirror. So ladies doing your makeup in this room is hard. 8) pitiful tea and coffee provision. 9) not clean smelling - stale wee smell in bathroom. 10) paint chipped on every wall. Hotel overall looked very tired. Only reception area looked relatively well kept.
