Just got through with a Veterans trip here. It's awesome. All the guides are top notch, food was incredible and both the manager Pam and the rest of the help were perfect! Going back as soon as possible, thanks Capt. Ray

Party of 4 men resided 5 days at a lodge located on the Mississippi River in June 2011. This is a fishing lodge unlike any I have been to and blows comparisons away fishing lodges we have stayed at in La Pazaz in Baja California Mexico (we caught it all), Costa Rico (tarpon) and Manitoba Provimce (Great Nothrn Pike)!
Fishing for Redfish and Trout. Daily volume of fish was terrific. You would never know that the BP oil spill even happened. Owner was our expert guide. Lodge is of spectacular. Food was over the top with great variety at breakfast and dinner. Lunch was available on the boat but just how much food can one eat. Cajun dining as well as well know american dishes. Great value!
So tired at the end of the day, you are happy you are in a remote area. Early to bed and early to rise was out schedule. Sleepng rooms were clean, ample in size and comfortable.
Staff is fantastic. We are going back in October 2012.

My wife and I stayed at Saltgrass for two days during a road trip along the entire Gulf Coast.
We love inshore fishing so we included a day of light tackle fishing in the back water area.
The lodge is actually a beautifully finished home built alongside the Mississippi levee with spectacular views of the river and passing boat traffic.
There is a full time manager and two of the owners were on site during our stay, Capt. Raymond and his brother Chris. The Schmitt brothers made us feel at home. Nothing was left to chance—every meal was excellent; good wine, plenty of beer and soft drinks. There was always something cooking in the crockpot--, jambalaya or red beans and rice. Given that the weather had turned bitter cold, this was a nice touch.
The rooms were quite comfortable and up to date ensuite baths were first class. The lodge can sleep up to 16, but there were only 3 additional guests the first night and we had the lodge to ourselves the second.
We met our fishing guide Capt. Todd at the local marina, not two minutes from the lodge. We were sent out with a pre-made bag lunch and drinks for the day of fishing. We had a short ride across the river and into the back water area. Todd is incredibly knowledgeable about the wildlife and fish in the area and helped us get into how to fish for Redfish. Even though it was windy and cold, we had plenty of fishing action and kept a few 9 pounders for dinner. A great day of Louisiana fishing for the two of us
.
Back at the lodge, there is a very nice swimming pool area and huge decks off the bedrooms to enjoy the scenery. Even trap shooting if you are so inclined
.
My wife has already insisted that we come back again when the weather warms up. As an avid sportsman who is used to staying in some fairly spartan motels this was something on the opposite end of the spectrum. You will enjoy the lodge and learn why people love the low country of Louisiana.
You won’t be sorry!

My wife and I stayed here for two days and could have stayed a month. We were the only guests there at the time and had the opportunity to look at all the rooms before choosing the Mint Julep room which was wonderful. Two comfy queen beds and a door right out to the second floor balcony where we spent many an hour watching the enormous ships traversing the Mississippi River. They have an excellent in-house chef (Teddy) who is quite willing to accommodate most any dish you want. Breakfast lunch and dinner are offered as part of the package. The owner, Raymond Schmitt is a wonderfully friendly gentleman whose company we enjoyed as much as the Lodge itself. We were offered the use of the Lodge's Four Wheeler, happily accepted and took it for miles over the levee and along the banks of the Mississippi. What a fun experience! There is a nice swimming pool and cabana area which we would have loved had the weather been a bit warmer. This place is advertised as a Hunting and Fishing Lodge but it certainly could make a family happy or just a couple wanting to rest, relax and enjoy some real good food.

My son and I had the opportunity to spend the weekend at Saltgrass and really were impressed with the lodge itself. I was very clean, modern and well maintained. The staff was excellent and met our every need. The food competes with any first class restaurant in New Orleans and was delicious. If you do have a chance to visit, be sure to try the "Saltgrass Trout" as it is world class.
You will not be disappointed if you try this lodge. The fishing and guides were also great. One of the best trips my son and I have ever been on!

This beautiful lodge provides excellent lodging, fantastic food, and friendly service. My son, his friend, their sons, and I enjoyed inshore fishing, offshore fishing and waterfowl hunting with excellent guides with very well-maintained equipment. Raymond is a terrific organizer and gracious host. I am so happy to recommend him and his staff.

We found Saltgrass Outdoors online and it was everything we imagined. We were looking for a comfortable place to stay and Saltgrass offered great rooms, excellent food and drink, and a promise of great fishing. We were served a huge breakfast, lunch was provided for the trip and we fished with a guide from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. We left from the Venice area and ended up with some great bull reds and caught our limit of redfish while also catching some sheepshead, and black drum. The fish were cleaned and vacuum sealed for transport home. Everyone was so nice, friendly, and helpful. A shout out to Chief, Raymond, Janelle, Bernie, Tracy, and our guide Louis. Dinner the first night was huge ribeyes and the second night we had redfish with puréed eggplant, crabmeat, and shrimp side. Highly recommended.

Hotel accommodation's are excellent. Fishing could have been better, but that's why they call it "fishing" and not "catching". If you go fishing ask for CHIEF. He is the best Captain I've ever had, and I've been on lots of chartered fishing trips. The only negative I have to say is that if you're going to charge customers $25 each per day for live shrimp then you should put that on your website, instead of saying its all included.
