Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After a long drive form Te Anau we pulled into this lovely hotel. We needed a place for 3 but they only had a 1 bedroom with a queen sized bed. When we explained our situation and that we really needed a room for 3, they put a roll away bed in the lounge area for us. The room was lovely, clean, environmentally friendly and the beds were terrific! Even with the extra bed we had plenty of room. It was super reasonable too!!! And, it was only a few minutes drive from Greymouth. This is a lovely hotel.

Great place to stay, stayed here for a few months and enjoyed my time there. Little hideaway from the world however close enough to town. Nice powerful showers and clean modern rooms for a nice stay. Hope it continues.

I write reviews either from extreme disappointment or super impressed/enjoyment -this review is most definitely of the latter variety.
As a frequent traveller, the easiest option is usually the closest one-in this case, the extra 5minutes or so drive from Greymouth is well rewarded. Quiet, peaceful interesting location [check out the old gold mine site further up the road] and accommodation that reflects the sense of peacefulness. High quality fittings -bathroom especially a-and welcoming [but unobtrusive] hosts.....deserves to be fully booked all year round!

of Resort Retreat quality capable of standing next to a fine wilderness lodge BUT:
heating, electric blanket, side lamps were all irregularly working or not at all. The commanding and gentlemanly presence of the owner was what was arresting and captivated us.
Small number of units and excellently placed fairly near the Shantytown. We called on a relatively cold, wintry July evening.
We also noticed that the rain reverberates when hitting the corrugated metal surfaces or whatever these may be.

Thank you Bardangas for your recent review. Every thing in the unit was checked after your online comments and electric blankets are working fine when turned on at the wall. Heater was working perfectly with thermostat which guest can alter and we have replaced the bedside light bulb. We have no control over the weather and live in a rain forest area with hail this winter.

One of the motels in Greymouth re-sold the 3 rooms we had booked, and everything else in town was full. You can imagine our relief when they found us rooms just out of town at West Highlands motel. We had great rooms, and were directed to a good restaurant nearby. Wish we had booked here in the first place!

Found this lovely accomodation by pure luck and could not be any happier. Tucked away and upon entry even had a Scottish Coo (cow) in the paddock. Owners just lovely and helpful. 1bedroom with separate lounge/kitchen. Beautiful views from bedroom and lounge. Bathroom was divine and spacious. I would highly recommend this as one of the best places in South Island for peace and tranquility. No internet coverage with Vodafone but that did not worry me. Could purchase this but decided not to worry. Could have stayed here for days.

What a find. Lovely quiet spot off the road, surrounded by bush but with elevated views too. Very nice and unassuming owners, who built and developed the complex themselves. Quite different from the usual motels in town. Each unit is like a small house with timber beamed ceilings and well spaced for privacy. Large bathroom with walk in shower, books, magazines, plunger coffee, deck outside and a well appointed kitchen. Comfy beds and a spacious bedroom and zero noise apart from birdsong. Felt no desire to even turn the TV on here. Just a couple of minutes from Shantytown and enjoyed Woods Creek walkway further down the road.

Room Tip: Unit 6 the best, being a front one away from the drive, but all are very good by the look of it.

What a lovely place to spend a few days relaxing in the tranquil bushland setting of these well appointed, clean and modern motel lodges. We had a beautiful view from the bedroom and the decking area which has outside seating. Quite simply the best motel accommodation I have ever stayed in. The only thing that irked me was the fact that laundry could only be done between 1pm and 6pm - given that an average wash cycle takes more than an hour, how are you ever going to get a turn? As we were staying here only 3 nights, we didn't bother.

What a wonderful find situated in a lovely bush settting, this is a peaceful, relaxing, magical place to stay, the host are the best and couldn't be more helpful, they were able to steer us to the best tourist places and the best places to eat. The units were so stylish, clean and comfortable, and beds are the best we have encountered on our travels. I noted that there was a criticism about the laundry use in on eof the reviews, but we found this not a problem and just arranged our day around it, as one does.

"Best kept secret" on the West Coast.

We stayed here for 10 weeks while working in Greymouth.

What a wonderful spot. Surrounded by native trees, bellbirds, fantails....

The Units are spacious, tastefully and confortably furnished - with everything you need -good WIFI.

The hosts Chris and Steve are wonderful, welcoming and easy going. They made us feel at home.

Recommend to all - A hidden Tresure!

So lovely to see your very kind review after your long stay with us. Rest assured it was such a pleasure to have you with us as well. It is so nice to have vibrant people around which is infectious and makes it so enjoyable to us as well, always a smile and chat . I must also make the comment that is such a pleasure to go into the unit after guests have left and find they have left it so clean and tidy as they found it. Take care and hope to see you again soon. Chris Owner/Manager :)
