Detailed Reviews
The Good:
Driving up to the Vineyard property, you are struck by the beautiful rolling hills. The Winery itself is lovely with a nice set of wines (2008 Cab Sauvignon, Petite Syrah MMMmm) - I was pleasantly surprised as I was not expecting the best quality wines out of the midwest. The Winery offers a good selection of flights including estate wines and offers a tour of their operations. The tour guide, Hose´, who normally doesn't lead tours, was a cheerful, pleasant sort who walked us through and shared his knowledge.
When we checked in, we were given the key to our room (Estate #3) and we entered the cozy little room. It was very nicely decorated, with a keen eye for detail (wine glasses in the room!). The room was clean and well lit due to the two patio doors. Outside our doors were two rocking chairs to sit and listen to the wind blow.
The Bad: Estate Room #3 faces the main road so the guests will suffer from the noise of all the passing cars - thankfully, the noise does die down somewhat after 9PM.
As for dinner, Estate Room #3 does not have the luxury of a kitchen, so we did not have the option of the private chef, which would've been preferred. Our only option was the Hunting Club's Dinner option which needed to be pre-ordered three days in advance. When the server told us there were only 4 pieces per appetizer, we asked for two orders. The only appetizer was shrimp cocktail which was frozen then thawed and absolutely tasteless. We paid $24 for 8 pieces of shrimp :) BUT the rolls were outstanding!
The entree which I had ordered was no longer available despite being pre-ordered - so I was served a piece salmon over green bean casserole. The salmon was very fishy tasting and seemed somewhat old. They did not serve lemon with the fish either which may have helped ease the fishy taste. However, the filet they served WAS good and worth the $28 price tag. As was the $5 cheesecake. The $24 salmon was a joke. All in all, the dinner (including tip) totaled up to $105 without wine since they do not serve it at the Hunt Club. We took our own $40 bottle with us.
Mind you, I am not one to complain about a dinner being expensive - I've traveled all over the world and paid a pretty penny. However, the food needs to be good if it is expensive.
I would actually suggest planning ahead and packing a picnic dinner. The estate rooms do have a mini-fridge supplied - although the one in estate #3 buzzes a lot :)
The next morning, we went back to the Winery for our "delicious continental breakfast". It was so-so. The coffee was awful. The waffles were good. There was a decent selection of cereal available. The only fresh fruit available were bananas.
The Ugly: An active HUNTING CLUB directly next to a Lodge & Guest House! If you are coming for a weekend to relax and get away, be prepared to listen to guns going off on a regular basis. The Lodge is a few hundred yards away while the Estate rooms are off a little further in the distance. It might also make you pause when considering going for a walk along the beautiful rolling vineyards...what if they miss their target?

The Lodge and Winery were very nice, however not once were we ever greeted by and staff or made to feel at home. We were virtually ignored at check-in and with over $100 of merchandise to purchase for family and friends in the Winery could not get anyone to help check us out. After about 15 minutes my wife told me to put it back. Also they did have a shooting competition which did not bother us except during the night every half hour two shotgun blasts kept waking us up. We were told after asking the next moring this was to keep the racoons away. I do understand this but would have liked someone to let us know.We would have checked out but no one was at the desk. Went home and went to bed. We were not on A Groupon Deal and did pay full price for this stay and can see no value for the cost.

We purchased a coupon through AAA, but were somewhat disappointed. Don't go on Monday or Tuesday, as the dining room is not open & there is no place to eat nearby. Plus they have a silly 72 hour reservation rule. No massages available. They have to fix the food problem!
Winery was nice, but not remarkable. "tour" was they just showed you around & employees seemed unimpressed. Enjoyed sporting clays and the attendant in the Hunt Club was the most accomodating and polite employee that we encountered.
Not really worth staying overnight!

The bed was very uncomfortable needs replaced it dips in the middle. The cleaning person didn’t do a great job. Toothpaste splashes in the mirror, dust all over the side lamps close to the bed. A huge cobweb with a spider greeted us at the front entrance. It’s like nobody ever stays here. It’s very sad as it was a very nice cabin and it has so much potential if they just market it a little better for people to stay after going to the vineyard. A dead mouse was on top of the fireplace. Not sure how the cleaning staff missed this?? Talk about gross! Also didn’t feel safe as none of the side entry doors lock. Anyone can walk into the home if they wanted/ all the bedroom doors seem cheap and they do have locks but could early be kicked in. I didn’t get a goods night sleep here.

We booked the lodge for two night for our honeymoon (Tuesday-Wednesday). Upon arriving to the lodge, we struggle to find where we were to go. Once we got to the lodge to check in, we were told we would not be at the lodge, but at a separate house. In the refrigerator was a mason jar of orange juice, a mason jar of milk, and other assorted bagged pastries that we were told would be our breakfast! This was our honeymoon. If there was no breakfast, why did they say they are a bed and breakfast?? There were no restaurants anywhere around, and were told the vineyard had no food. We drove half an hour to find a place to eat. Once we ate, we drove by the Vineyard and found out they did have sandwiches to eat. It would have been nice to not have to drive so far, when we had drove most of the day to get to the lodge. The next day, we did go to the Vineyard, and it was very nice. We ate dinner there as well. During our entire stay, we never saw anyone to ask about our stay or if we needed anything. When we went to the lodge to check out, the lodge was locked.

We chose Elk Creek because of the reputation on the winery, which by the way was terrific. We looked on-pine for lodging in the area and ECL was referenced on several sites. Bottom line, it is an upscale hunting lodge and while the rooms are comfortable, the area has nothing more to offer than the winery and hunting. The nearest restaurant is 30 miles away in Frankfort and unless you are inclined to have breakfast at McDonald's, you can only get a continental "basket" left in your room. Great place if you and a few fieinds want to shoot skeet or hunt but otherwise - spend an hr in the winery and then move on !

My wife and I wanted a romantic getaway that was fairly close by. This was our first time at Elk Creek, or any winery for that matter. After getting a Amazon Local deal, we timed our trip for a midweek visit while school was on fall break. Perhaps because of the local school breaks, we barely got a reservation six weeks beforehand (we got the last available room).
The major thing to understand about Elk Creek is that it's really a property spread out several acres, with some residential homes in between their buildings. Coming in from 71 exit, you will first pass the Inn, which is a smaller place that is meant to be rented out by several people (unless you don't mind sharing bathrooms). Then you will pass the Estates (where we stayed), followed by the Hunt Club/Lodge, and finally the Winery itself with a cafe/bar/gift shop.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the checking in was frustrating. Granted, we got a property map and directions emailed to us to "check in at the Lodge," but when you get there, you lose your nerve. The Lodge looks like a home rented out by others; you don't want to just walk into the middle of a party. I actually went to the Winery building to confirm what to do. They told me to just walk into the Lodge, past the kitchen, past the living room, past the....well, you get the idea. In fairness, once I found it, the checkin itself was very friendly and painless. (By the way, your room key is a bottle opener, which is a welcome and clever touch.) However, I wouldn't have lost 15 minutes of indecision if there had just been a few signs saying "Check In." One on the road, one at the Hunt Club so you know to keep driving past it, and one at the Lodge entrance itself so you don't feel like an intruder.
The room itself was very nice. A+ for the housekeeping crew, because it smelled fresh, and the linens and towels were impeccable. There is a wine bottle holder and glasses in your room. The TV was a bit outdated (Poloroid makes TVs??), strangely placed as it's off left to where you would look at in bed, and a bit too small to easily see any subtitles or guide info across the room. Also, although it may be a HDTV, I didn't get in any HD channels on the cable box. There was a side loading DVD player in the TV, although I don't know if that's in all rooms. The wifi was free, plentiful, and strong; we watched a few streaming Netflix videos during our stay and it never buffered.
The bed was okay in terms of sleep quality, but admittedly we sleep in Tempurpedic at home so we're spoiled. The bathroom was one of the best parts of the room; the sink in the vanity was contemporary yet useful, and the walk in shower with overhead nozzle was very, very nice. A bathrug is provided (draped across the toilet when we arrived), make sure to use it!
The Estates has rooms 4-6 facing the vineyards and property, where rooms 1-3 face the main road. We were in #6, and loved the view. (If we could have gotten up early, we would have seen a beautiful sunrise.) Because we were at the end and farthest away from the Estates' parking lot, we were protected somewhat from neighbor noise, but sound travels more than I would have liked from the other guests. Certainly not enough to interrupt or keep us up, but it was noticeable. Still, as I read other reviews, the Estates is probably the most private stay you can have at Elk Creek; the Lodge is infamous for sound issues to the point that signs there are posted about it, so be forewarned unless all the guests are your friends. There was clay pigeon shooting going on at the Hunt Club but inside the room we couldn't hear it. That all said, outside of your room, you will probably hear nothing but the cows across the street. Elk Creek is truly in the middle of nowhere. (Don't expect nightlife anywhere nearby either. As I mentioned earlier -- and in fairness, they warn in their confirmation information -- you will probably have to drive 20 minutes or more to get a decent bite to eat.)
Definitely make sure you catch a free tour of the winery. As of this review, the times are 10:30 am and 4 pm. Although not even 30 minutes long, it truly was interesting and we learned a lot about the process of wine-making.
Our reservation came with a free cheese and cracker platter. After going out to eat in Warsaw (about 25 minutes to get to Jewell's on Main...a bit of a drive, but highly recommended!) we came back just before the cafe closed at a midweek time of 7 pm to grab our platter. The bar itself closed at 8, so we enjoyed the platter with a wine flight with the place to ourselves. Between the wine and after-dinner fullness, we couldn't finish our platter, but it was delicious. The bartender would have happily wrapped it up for our room but we declined. Here would be a good time to point out the hospitality of everyone we encountered at Elk Creek -- top notch, and we always felt like we were right at home.
Of course, we stocked up on several bottles before we left. The gift selections are a bit limited for "Elk Creek" branded merchandise except for nice but somewhat expensive stemless wine glasses ($6.99 each) or a bottle opener like your room key. That said, it's probably a sign of class that there wasn't 500 tchotchkes; mainly just great bottles of wine.
The cafe has a good selection of lunch food sandwiches and desserts, but we didn't partake. Our reservation did include a free "continental breakfast." We didn't expect much, but besides the usual danish, bagels and cereal, they offered fresh and hot mini-quiches and waffles as well. A nice surprise.
Even without the Amazon Local deal, Elk Creek Winery would certainly have been worth the full price. We definitely want to return when it's warmer, and perhaps with a group of friends!

Three couples stayed at the Inn. We were looking forward to sharing the house and enjoying the property. We stayed during high heat and humidity. Amenities included air conditioning, wi fi, and gas grill. We had problems with all three and found the manager to be rude and demeaning. The house was extremely hot; outside provided more comfort. The grill had an empty tank of gas and we were unable to use our ipads. We were sent to a Ramada twenty miles away the first night and were promised to have a cool house by the next evening. There was a bit of improvement but still not functioning properly.
We were pleased to receive an inquiry from the owner who did provide some compensation. We hope that either things are fixed or that advertisement (amenities) are more honest. This could be a nice place to stay, but I won't return.

Boy, did we have high hopes for a special stay at Elk Creek Vineyards. The lodge looked wonderful, quiet rolling countryside and a perfect stop on our way to the Smokey Mountains. Too bad it greatly disappointed us. After reserving a room in the lodge (beautifully pictured on their web site), and verifying the specific room 3 days before our arrival, we checked in only to discover they had relocated us to a very plain room in a one-story "motel-like" building right next to the road. Their explanation ... nothing at all, just "sorry". They comped us one stinking glass of wine each. Instead of the advertised hot breakfast, we had cold cereal and milk (poured into a Styrofoam container) in the mini-fridge of our room. At least the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and they offered us a free night to return (we declined), otherwise this would have been a 1-circle rating.

We like to give our business to locally owned places as often as possible. When i saw the groupon offer for the night stay here I was thrilled and thought "WOW what a great way to get away for our 13th anniversary!" The food at the cafe was good, the wine was good too, the room was beautiful - we stayed in the Master Suite in the Lodge so it really WAS Lovely. Until we got back from dinner. We walked into the Lodge and the other guests were in the great room (all guests have full use of the facilities of the lodge) and they were a bit loud. A bit loud became VERY loud, and drunk. and playing billiards in the room Right Underneath Us with floorboards we could see through the cracks between them.
When we checked out I brought it to the attention of the staff, the response given to me was "did you ask them to be quiet?" its not my job to do that, and if it was i still wouldnt put myself in harms way with a room full of drunk guests playing pool!
Will NOT be going back there and sadly as much as I WANT to be able to recommend the place I cannot with that kind of service.
