Detailed Reviews
The family are so warm and welcoming, the food in all respects was excellent. We stayed in the barn which was great. We requested dinner in the room, while we were mixing and mingling in the main house they setup our room really nicely for dinner. The had the wood fire going, dimmed the lights, candles everywhere, light music, we were very impressed. We also had a couples massage on arrival which was one of the best we've had. Breakfast in the morning was fantastic. Highly recommended.

Our first time to New Zealand and stumbled upon this gem online, it was an easy drive outside of Auckland [definitely rent a car in NZ, so much driving / sightseeing to do] we were warmly greeted by the entire family and instantly felt at home! I love boutique, family owned properties, and the Moores sure know how to do cozy, luxury! They thought of everything, [even a hair straightener in our bathroom] beach towels, backpack, you name it...I’m a sucker for details and they nailed it. We loved the property, our room, the food and other guests! I knew our visit was too short the minute we arrived, must have a 3 night minimum here...so much to enjoy. Don’t hesitate, the beaches, cute towns, and sweetest host family will ensure your visit is a hit, with all the amenities of a five star hotel (+ more!)...just go!

On Friday the 27th of November my Fiancé and I stayed at Te Arai Lodge. All i can say is wow! This place is absolutely stunning, with beautiful views and so close to the beach. When we arrived we were greeted by Vince and given a tour of the lodge (with a wine in hand, even better). We both couldn't believe how amazing it was in real life as we had followed them on instagram for a long time. We had an amazing four course meal with wine matching. The food was all sourced locally, with alot of fresh veges from their garden. Nicola prepared all of the food in front of us which was awesome. The steak was delicious and perfectly cooked! After dinner we had an outdoor bath with bubble bath and bath salts. We woke up in the morning to an incredible spread of breakfast foods and were able to eat in the glasshouse!!
Our room was stunning, completely private and huge! The Moores Family were the best hosts, they went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. They have truly poured so much love into the lodge!! My favourite thing was all the little extra touches they had in the rooms, from a pillow menu, to hot water bottles, a beach kit with beach hats and jandles to use! They have put so much thought into every little detail.
Thank you so much for having us! We loved it and will definitely be back!

From the moment we arrived, we felt very welcome. The ambience at Te Arai Lodge is wonderful, the service outstanding and the food absolutely delicious. The rooms are very spacious with the best amenities. Privacy is assured if that is what you want but the staff are on hand just when you need them. Choose a package with dinner included or drive 15 minutes to Mangawhai or 45 minutes to Matakana.

Our family of 12 spent Christmas with Vince Cathy,Nicola and Doug, we arrived at the beautiful lodge on the 23ed of Dec and stayed until the afternoon of the 30th and i would describe our stay as exceptional, the rooms and facilities are world class.
Nothing was to much trouble and the many requests of our combined group including twin 4 year old dynamos were met with a smile and grace, we can not speak highly enough of the hospitality and attention to detail.
The food was outstanding with the families focus on sustainability many of the ingredients are from Cathys large garden or from local providers with similar beliefs .
with Vince and Nicola creating wonderful meals in the open kitchen with support from Cathy and Doug and what an amazing Christmas Lunch .WOW
So 10out of 10 and would we come again ? most certainly yes

A sensational hidden gem!
This luxury lodge owned and managed by the lovely Moores Family is approx 1 hours drive from Auckland. The hosts are meticulous about all aspects of the property, demonstrating outstanding care, professionalism and friendly hospitality. Each room is carefully and classically decorated with attention to comfort and practicality The property itself is surrounded by acres of lush gardens, and much of the produce used for meals is grown on site. They have a heated pool, Swedish jacuzzi and infrared sauna you can enjoy as well.
The homely feel, garden to table dining, free flowing local wines and open fireplace all allow you to feel like you are part of their family, thank you Vince, Kathy, Nicola and Doug for your warm hospitality.

Beautiful large room with an outdoor bath and a large balcony. Large bathroom with a bath and beautiful toiletries. Very quiet and the birdlife is amazing. Fabulously tended gardens and a lot of the beautiful food - mainly organic comes from the gardens.
You feel like you are miles from anywhere and the Moores family and staff are just the best Hosts . Nothing is too much trouble.
Tried out the infrared spa . Fabulous large swimming pool and hot tub.
amazing food and wine.

From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed and very welcome in this spectacular sanctuary. Our room, the Kotare suite was spacious, with a beautiful view and very quiet (apart from the birdsong!)
All meals were beautifully prepared and presented by Nicola using fresh and mainly local ingredients, and with amazing flavours.
The ambience and layout of the Lodge allows for privacy and many different areas to dine, but also with the ability to mix with other guests.
We enjoyed an adventurous fat tyre bike ride to Te Arai beach, along the spectacular coast to the estuary, enjoying the prolific bird life and back through Mangawhai for a coffee. A cold beer on our return (thanks Vince), recovery swim in the pool and soak in the hot tub was very much appreciated.
We will need to return as our 2 night stay was not enough!
Thanks Moores family for an absolutely wonderful stay. You are running an amazing retreat!

It is very evident on arrival at the Lodge how passionate the Moore’s family are of their beautiful lodge and rightly so too. Their attention to detail is remarkable, the garden to table food is exquisite especially once you have learnt how much researching and procurement goes into buying local produce and supporting local companies.
This truely is the most relaxing and friendly Lodge we have ever stayed in, so many personal touches and nothing is ever too much trouble. One of our evenings 3 couples all ate in separate locations around the gardens and the family share the duties ensuring everyone is suitably catered for, with portable speakers discreetly left on a nearby garden post with classic chill music in the background.
The bird and insect life is incredible and testament to Cathys organic nuturing and companion gardening. You find yourself picking out the odd weed! We were fortunate to experience the resident Ruru who graced us with his presence on more than one occasion and the soaring kereru were plentiful and amazing to watch.
A hot spa bath allowed us to enjoy the Milky Way which was lit up due to no light pollution.
So much to see and do here, one night simply isn’t enough. And last but not least sweet little Lottie the new member of the Moore’s family who gets her regular shampoo and set ❤️
Thank you Vince, Cathy, Doug and Nicola for the most memorable stay ever. We will be back!
