Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed in Rm 3 at the Cascades in Pakuranga in June 2013 for a weekend. On arrival, we noted that no gardens were weeded as you drove in making us wonder about care of the rest of the facility. Our fears were soon confirmed. We had booked a family unit and were under the impression we had a full kitchen - this was not the case. We had many pots and a frying pan in the cupboard, but no oven to use them in! There were many ants, even in the fridge. Even though the unit could sleep five, there were only enough plates for 3 people. The bathroom was no better, with peeling paint on the ceiling, a vanity door nailed shut because it was broken, and cracks in the linoleum that water went into when showering - imagine the bacteria under the lino! It is also a unit that had a door adjoining it to another unit. We were woken at 1am by the neighbours talking on the phone - all conversation was clearly heard - obviously no soundproofing between the units/door. On the second morning of our stay, we had no hot water when we showered. I went to the office to discuss this and other concerns we had about the unit, and the owner wouldn't discuss it and walked away from me without offering us another unit to have a warm shower in, or addressing any of the problems. I advise that if anyone is to stay here, please ask to view your room first before handing over your visa card! I travel to Auckland regularly and will never stay at this motel again.

The staff are very friendly
However the unit we gad which was a studio unit left a lot to be desired
Net curtains were filthy , drapes were filthy and not fitted to rail
Windows filthy and had broken catches
No radio in the room
Unit is very dated
Bathroom basic
Toilet had no window
Patches of wallpaper over patches
Bed was not made after first night
Unit needs to be gutted and refitted properly with quality fittings
Would not stay again

Spent one night here, was a bit worried about road noise, but in fact it was super quiet. Lovely unit, bigger than expected too, with all the facilities you need. Friendly owners / managers. would recommend

Not sure what is with the bad reviews here, Cascades was nothing like that! I've stayed there two times recently and the units were clean and tidy and well maintained. Staff were friendly and it was great value so I'm very happy :)

In 2013 when I first stayed, the room was okay for the price, but I feel it's overpriced for the service now. I've stayed this place three times in the past because of it's convenient location but every time the place got poorer and wasn't updated. Also, I never had a good sleep in this motel as it is just by the busy road. I now stay a different motel and would never go back to this place as it's a rip off for the price they charge.

Aah, it was awesome returning to Pakuranga, my old hometown after 16 odd years and the place has not changed! Great weather during winter time, and Auckland has much to see and do. This hotel reminds me of Best Western in North Vancouver, similar in size and layout. Even the old manager Mr Hsu from Malaysia and his team of associates were helpful to the core. I'd recommend this property to anyone visiting east Auckland.

Stayed here with my cousin for two nights. Absolutely no complaints! The management are a lovely Korean couple who's English is fantastic and customer service is very professional. The rooms are very basic and equipped to cover the necessities - slightly dated decor and due for a modern overhaul in the upcoming year or so. Cleaning done daily and the lovely care taking lady is super friendly and happy to help with any queries. No bed bugs which we've seen in other motels. Location is awesome; being so close to Lloyd Elsemore, Pakuranga Plaza, Howick and not too far from the motorway or Botany Downs. Overall, stay was pleasant. Thanks for the great nights!

Unit is very small and cramped, so one member of our group had to go stay with family members. Poor patchwork done in shower, all the doors and walls needed a good clean. Basic thing like teabags etc were not replaced on 2nd day of stay. Even some of the UHT milk in the fridge was curdled. Wont be going back.

"If you must stay here because everything else is booked, ask for rooms away from the road. The motel has a major intersection with lights immediately outside of it. This is noisy in the night with cars accelerating. Also, the roadside rooms have very thin curtains and the street lights shine in making it look like daylight when trying to sleep"
